Wattel Out

Mike Wattel
Mike Wattel

After surviving with the short-stack for most of the afternoon, Mike Wattel has been eliminated. He got his last chips in good with pocket queens against {Q-}{J-}, but his opponent's flush sent him railward.

Ramirez Slips

Facing a raise to 600, Senovio Ramirez three-bet to 4,500 only to have his opponent move all in. Ramirez called the addtional few thousand and we were off to a showdown.

Ramirez: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{J-Clubs} to see Ramirez double his opponent up and slip to 3,000 in chips.

Aldridge, Liebert, Jamshidi Out

Sirous Jamshidi
Sirous Jamshidi

Ken Aldridge, winner of a WSOP bracelet in 2009 in the $1,500 six-handed no-limit hold'em event and a final tablist at this year's $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event (where he finished 4th), got off to a good start today but was just eliminated.

Kathy Liebert, who won a WSOP bracelet in 2004 in the $1,500 limit hold'em shootout, has been knocked out here.

And Sirous Jamshidi, who has also made four WSOP final tables himself, was sent to the rail recently as well.

A Liu-Liu of a Hand

J.J. Liu was eliminated near the end of Level 6 in an especially unfortunate hand.

Holding {A-}{6-}, she committed the last of her stack following an {A-}{A-}{K-} flop, but her opponent had {k-}{k-} for the full house. The turn was a ten and the river a queen, and Liu won't be coming back from the soon-to-start dinner break.

Hamilton Doubles Opponent

Lisa Hamilton opened to 500 from early position only to have an opponent move all in for 4,900.

Hamilton made the call tabling her {A-Clubs}{J-Spades} to be in a race against {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}.

The {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop put Hamilton in the lead, but the {A-Hearts} on the turn gave her opponent an additional four outs.

Unfortunately for Hamilton, the river landed the {10-Hearts} to see her opponent double to over 10,000 as she slipped to just under 12,000 in chips.

Play Resumes

Players have returned and Level 7 has begun. The plan tonight is to play two more one-hour levels, then 35 minutes' worth of Level 9 before concluding, thereby halting play at the same point it was stopped last for Day 1a.

By the Numbers

A total of 3,844 players registered for this event, with 2,340 coming yesterday and 1,504 today.

Of that group of 1,504, we currently have 396 players still with chips. That means 729 players total are still alive in Event #54.

The average chip stack for those here playing Day 1b is about 9,900 as we move through Level 7.
