Quibell's Queens Save the Day

Crystal Quibell - hanging in there
Crystal Quibell - hanging in there

Action began with a player in early position who raised to 1,600. A player in middle position flatted and action folded around to Crystal Quibell, who squeezed all in for about 4,800 total. The player in the big blind then announced he was all in himself for several thousand more, sending the original raiser deep into the tank. He eventually folded, as did the middle-position player.

Quibell flipped over a pair of queens, much to the dismay to her opponent, who grimaced and revealed two jacks.

The board ran out {4-}{3-}{5-}{A-}{A-} and Quibell scooped the sizable pot - chipping back up to 13,300.

Women Well Represented So Far

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

We are winding down towards the top 100, with 135 players left, and we noticed that there were a good number of ladies still in the event. We did a count on the remaining tables, and we tallied 16 women who are still in, accounting for over 10% of the remaining field. One of those is Trish Baker, who has been one of the big stacks in the room for the past few hours, currently sitting at 45,000. We will be sure to keep an eye on the rest of the remaining female players.

Crystal Quibell Continues to Rise

Crystal Quibell came back from the dinner sitting on a fairly short stack of 6,400 with the blinds at 300/600. However, she has had a great level so far, and is now sitting on almost 20,000. In the last hand, we saw Quibell raise under the gun to 1,600. She just got one call from a player in middle position, and the two saw a flop of {3-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}.

Quibell wasted little time in firing out a bet of 3,500, and her opponent wasted even less time calling. The turn brought the {j-Spades}, and Quibell wasn't deterred by her opponent's quick call on the flop. She moved all in for 7,750, and her opponent tanked for about 15 seconds before folding. Quibell is now sitting on 19,400.

Stewart Settles for a Chop

Ty Stewart
Ty Stewart

We caught up with the action when Ty Stewart, who had already raised from the cutoff, was faced with a re-raise all-in from the player on the button. Stewart mulled it over a bit, but eventually decided to call.

His opponent revealed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, to which Stewart groaned and flipped over {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{A-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, leaving both players with the same hand. After the dealer chopped it up, Stewart was left with 39,000.

Wilmot's Winning Ways

Matthew Wilmot
Matthew Wilmot

Haiyan Tian started out a recent hand from middle position by making it 1,525 preflop. She received a call from Erica Falcone in late position, and Matthew Wilmot in the big blind.

After a {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop was released on the felt, Wilmot checked and Tian put out a bet of 4,525. Falcone quickly got out of the way and Wilmot quickly moved all in. Tian playfully upset went into the tank. After a minute or so of measuring out chips and pondering Tian confidently made the call.

Tian held {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} for a pair of kings, which was well ahead of Wilmot's {8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} which was a pair of eights. Things changed quickly after the {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn. Tian would have to hit a diamond or a king in order to catch up. She received no such luck as the {8-Spades} hit the river giving Wilmot quads.

Tian Taken Out

Haiyan Tian's roller coaster day has come to an end just a couple tables short of the money. We didn't catch the hand that crippled her, but we saw that she only had three stacks of green chips left. For those of you following at home, those are only worth 25 each, so she was severely short. Action folded around to her in the cutoff, and she shoved all in for her last 1,500. The button folded, and the small blind quickly moved in a stack of about 8,000 into the middle. The big blind folded, and the players tabled their cards.

Tian: {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}

TIan had live cards, and both players caught a piece of the flop, which came down {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}. Tian would still need some help to survive, but the door was slammed on her when the {a-Clubs} hit the river. The meaningless card was the {k-Hearts}, and Tian got up with a smile on her face, and headed to the rail.

New Chips In Play

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

The tournament staff has begun the process of coloring up the green T25 chips, and they have started to add in the orange T5,000 chips. Getting accurate counts is about to get a lot easier!

Green's Stack Takes a Hit

Action folded around to Shawn Patrick Green, who opened for 2,000. The player in the big re-raised all in for just over a thousand more and Green shrugged and quickly called.

Green: {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Big blind: {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}

Green was ahead going into the flop, however, the board came {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Green's opponent doubled through him with a pair of jacks.

Green is currently sitting with 17,000.
