Four Betting with Dan Smith

Earlier in the level we found Dan Smith mixing it up when he reraised a 7,000 bet preflop to 19,000. His opponent then took a few moments before three-betting to 43,000. So the action was back on Dan Smith who took a 3 minutes before announcing all-in. Smith's opponent folded after a few seconds.

A couple hands later we saw Smith playing a pot against the same opponent on a {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop. Smith's nemesis started out with a check that lead to a bet of 9,000 from Smith. A few ticks of the clock went by and Smith's opponent pushed forward a stack of chips for a 26,000 check-raise. We again saw Smith take his time before throwing out a four-bet. Smiths opponent immediately went all in and Smith folded as fast as he could, saying "that didn't work".

Smith still holds about 170,000 and is in good shape to go very deep today.

"These Two Should Get a Room Together"

A spectator on the rail was kind enough to flag down our attention to tell us about a big pot brewing between Dan Smith and Dewayne Wheeland. The railbird told us they've been playing so many pots against each other that, "they should get a room together."

The pair had built a pot over 60,000 by the time the river was dealt. The board showed {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {4-Spades} {Q-Hearts}, Smith checked and Wheeland bet 42,000. Smith had the dealer verify the amount and then let his hand go after a minute.

We'll keep an eye on them but unfortunately their table is next to be broken.

Baldwin Can't Be Beat

Eric Baldwin is in the zone and getting the cards to play with. He just eliminated another opponent in a preflop all in. Baldwin held pocket kings and his opponent held pocket queens. The board ran without a card higher than a ten and Baldwin earned the knockout.

Bluff?

Noah Vaillencourt started the day with a yo-yoing stack. Getting up big, then getting knocked low, but it seems like he has found his groove. Recently we saw him raising a bet of 7,000 to 22,500 from late position against his opponent on a {3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} board. A call was made and both players got to see the {4-Clubs} appear on the river.

Vaillencourt's opponent checked, and he opted to fire out a pot sized bet of 44,500. Action flipped back to the early position player who took his time deciding what he wanted to do. He measured out the bet, eyeballed all the chips in play, and when he finished doing that he did it all over again. Eventually after a substantial amount of time had passed Vaillencourt's opponent folded.

Vaillencourt immediately grinned from ear to ear and showed the table a {A-Spades}. Was Vaillencourt bluffing? or was he bluffing with the best hand? We do not know, and neither does Vaillencourt's opponent.

The Ho-Smith 10-Minute Hand

In one of the most tense moments of the tournament so far Maria Ho and Dan Smith played a hand that saw a big swing in chips and lasted ten minutes.

Ho opened for 6,500 in middle position and Dan Smith popped it to 16,500 behind her. The blinds folded and Ho called after some short consideration. The flop fell {9-Clubs} {2-Spades} {K-Spades}, Ho checked and Smith bet 15,500. Ho called and turn came {6-Clubs}. Both players checked to the {Q-Spades} river and Ho checked a third time.

Smith spent a few minutes in the tank before he slid out a bet of 45,500. Ho tanked even longer - a solid four minutes - and the tournament grew silent around her. A few players stood up from the table and players from neighboring tables walked over the check the action.

With all eyes on her, Ho announced call and Smith tabled {A-Spades} {10-Hearts} for a stone bluff. Ho turned up {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts} and she took the pot.
