Pearson Enjoying a Memorable Ride

Alan Pearson is living out every amateur poker player's dream right now. Pearson, who is playing in his only event of the 2012 WSOP, began the day with just 5,200 chips. He's now sitting behind a massive tower worth around 200,000.

The Texas native told us this is his third year playing at the WSOP. Yesterday he squeezed his way into the money for the first time. He's now eyeing a life-changing score if he can take this one down.

Pearson says he has "chills" right now, and it has nothing to do with the frigid temperature here in the Amazon Room.

Mitchell Holding On

After losing a flip with {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} to {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a 95,000-chip pot, Nick Mitchell was all on in the next hand for his last 9,500 with {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} against an opponent's {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. The {8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop pushed Mitchell into the lead, and he stayed alive when the dealer rolled over the {Q-Diamonds} turn and {Q-Spades} river.

Vonk and Peters at It Again

Back in 2010, a Dutchman by the name of Marcel Vonk took down this event, conquering a field of 3,844 on his way to capturing the $570,960 first-place prize. What's more, he defeated David Peters in heads-up play to become the last man standing.

Interestingly, both men are still alive in this tournament. Even more interesting is that Vonk and Peters are seat together at Table 434 in Seat 9 and 1 respectively. Needless to say, these men know how to conquer a $1,000 buy-in field, so we wouldn't be surprised if both make another deep run at the title.

Pocket Rockets for Teves

With around 25,000 in the pot and a board reading {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, Marc Etienne Blais checked to Ryan Teves, who fired out a bet of 10,500. Blais snap-called and then checked the {2-Clubs} river. Teves checked behind and showed {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}, which prompted Blais to muck.

"I didn't know what you were up to," Teves admitted. "You called so fast."

Van Der Fluit vs. Jaka

Action folded around to recent bracelet-winner Vincent Van Der Fluit on the button and he brought it in with a raise to 6,000. Faraz Jaka defended from the big blind and it was heads-up action to the {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop.

From there, Jaka check-called a bet of 7,500 before leading out for 18,000 on the {7-Diamonds} turn. Van Der Fluit made the call and then moved all in for 59,500 after Jaka checked the {J-Diamonds} river. The latter tanked for a bit and then released his hand.
