Another Tough Table, Boeken Beats O'Brien

We discovered another tough table in the Amazon Orange section with six famous faces. Dan O'Brien and Noah Boeken are sitting next to each other in seats two and three, and we just caught an interesting hand between the two.

2-7 Triple Draw

O'Brien raised from the cutoff to 300, and Boeken was his only caller on the button.

Both players drew two cards.

This is when things got very interesting as O'Brien bet 150, Boeken made it 300, O'Brien threw in 450 and the former EPT Copenhagen winner put in 600. This slowed O'Brien down who made the call.

"I don't need anymore," O'Brien said after which Boeken stood pat as well.

O'Brien check-called 300, and on the last drawing round both players stood pat as well. After O'Brien checked, Boeken flicked in three more grey 100 chips, and he got called once again.

Boeken turned over {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}, and O'Brien pointed out that that's a 'number two'. In 2-7 games the best possible hand is {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}, and Boeken's hand was just a little weaker, therefore a number two.

Van der Fluit Bluffs Bowker

In an effort to find a nice hand to report on, we stumbled upon $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha bracelet winner Vincent van der Fluit. After winning $265,211 just two weeks ago Van der Fluit added another $25,331 to his list of results coming in 11th in the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em tournament that is currently being played out on the main stage in the Amazon Room.

Van der Fluit was kind enough to tell us a hand he just played against Kyle Bowker, and the action went as following. The Dutchman raised fromt he cutoff with {2-}{2-}{3-}{x-}{x-} and got called by Bowker who was in the big blind.

Bowker drew two cards and Van der Fluit took three.

"I caught a {5-} and he bet. I called, he stood pat and I drew two cards," Van der Fluit said as they went to the final drawing round.

Bowker bet 300 and Van der Fluit called once again after which he drew one card and his opponent stood pat again.

Bowker now checked to Van der Fluit who had caught a {6-} on the second draw and now filled up his straight with a {4-} on the final draw. Van der Fluit didn't give up his hand as he bet and Bowker opted to fold.

A nice bluff from Van der Fluit who took down this pot and is up to 8,925. Bowker is also doing very well as his stack is around 14,000 chips.

The Heat is On

Level 4

Poker has seemed to take a backseat here in the Amazon as many of the players are paying more attention to Game 4 of the NBA finals than the tournament. This tends to be the case every game night as many players have a vested interest in the outcome.

Between the World Cup every four years and the NBA finals every summer, there is no shortage of sporting events to be enjoyed during the WSOP.

"Slow Rolled Him Five Times"

Massimiliano Martinez

Omaha Hi/Lo:

We happened by Table 382 and noticed Max Martinez was gone. We weren't sure what happened, but Kirk Morrison, who had been seated to Martinez's left, was kind enough to fill us in.

According to Morrison, Chip Jett held {A-}{A-}(X)(X) in Omaha Hi/Lo while Martinez held {A-}{J-}(X)(X). The flop came down {A-}{J-}(X), while the turn put up another {J-}. Martinez's chips went in, but when they came out they were sent Jett's way.

"Chip said, 'Nice hand,' and then slow rolled him five times," Morrison joked at the end, much to the delight of Jett and the rest of the table.

Smell Ya Later!

"Just bad luck," Dan O'Brien said with a smile after he had just been eliminated. O'Brien didn't seem to unhappy with his bustout, since sitting at the table wasn't a pleasant experience because of the player to his right.

"So the player to my right was getting his leg massaged so the masseuse was sitting down. All of a sudden I heard him say to her, 'You might wanna get up because I just farted'. And after that he said, 'Ooh, this is a stinky one', to her", O'Brien said ranting about his opponent.

When we asked in what game he busted O'Brien said, "O8, my best game! And I got it in good!"

No luck for O'Brien, who had a good WSOP last year cashing in six event for a total of $282,340, but this year things haven't been going his way yet. O'Brien only cashed in the $3,000 Six-Handed Event for $5,448, but we're sure he'll be back for more tomorrow when another $1,500 No Limit Hold'em tournament kicks off.
