Wien Spikes a Spade on the Turn to Make a Huge Double

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Jeremy Wien
Jeremy Wien

Jeremy Wien opened to 42,000 from early position and found two callers in Kenny Smaron (button) and Asi Moshe (big blind).

The flop fell {J-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and big action followed. Moshe tapped to let Wien fire a 105,000 continuation bet. Smaron called but Moshe had bigger plans. He reached to his stack and check-raised to 269,000. Wien announced he was all-in, earning a fold from Smaron. Moshe, however, called in a second.

Jeremy Wien: {A-Spades}{5-Spades}
Asi Moshe: {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Moshe had floppped it but he had to fade a spade card on the turn and river. The dealer wasn't on the same page, however, giving Wien the nut flush on the {4-Spades} turn. Moshe knew he was beat and the {8-Hearts} couldn't change anything. He had to ship 626,000 Wien's way.

Ross Schultz Eliminated in 17th Place ($17,583)

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Ross Schultz
Ross Schultz

On a board reading {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{k-Spades}{10-Diamonds} with around 220,000 in the middle, the action was on Ross Schultz in the small blind who opted to check. Asi Moshe was in the cutoff and announced all in, putting Schultz to the test for his remaining 250,000 chips.

Schultz thought for a minute and then threw a single chip in the middle to call. Moshe flipped over {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for a straight and Schultz tabled {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for trips only. Moshe's rivered straight was enough to eliminate Schultz in 17th place and regain some of those chips he previously lost.

Amato's Two Pairs Hold

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

With action caught on the {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop, John Amato was in the big blind, check-raising to 95,000 after Patrick Truong bet 23,000 in the cutoff. Truong called.

The {8-Diamonds} landed on the turn and Amato shoved his remaining 255,000. It didn't take long before Truong made the call but he learned that his {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} was trailing Amato's {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

Amato had to dodge any ten, nine or an eight and he did so when the {J-Hearts} hit the river.

Jan Christoph Von Halle Eliminated in 16th Place ($17,583)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Jan Christoph Von Halle
Jan Christoph Von Halle

John Amato opened to 40,000 from the cutoff and Jan Christoph Von Halle shoved all in for 236,000 on the button. David Peters was in the small blind also pushed all in for 262,000. Amato asked for a quick count and then made the call, putting both of his opponents at risk.

David Peters: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
John Amato: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Jan Christoph Von Halle: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The flop came {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and both Peters and Amato flopped trip kings, with Amato holding the better kicker. However, the {q-Diamonds} landed on the turn and Peters improved to a full house. The river was the {9-Hearts} and Peters nearly tripled up, knocking out Von Halle in the process.

Blair Doubles in a Flip

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Michael Gagliano raised to 45,000 in the cutoff and Eric Blair moved all-in from the big blind.

"Count, please," Gagliano immediately declared his interest. The dealer confirmed that it was 320,000 and Gagliano called the 16-blind shove.

Eric Blair: {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Michael Gagliano: {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

Essentially in a coin toss, Blair's eight remained the winner as the {2-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts} didn't improve Gagliano's hand. Blair is now playing over 30 big blinds while Gagliano dropped below that mark.

Kenneth Smaron Eliminated in 15th Place ($21,655)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Kenneth Smaron
Kenneth Smaron

Simultaneously with Blair's double, Kenneth Smaron was at risk on the other table. He ran with {A-}{9-} into {A-}{K-} of Asi Moshe and the board stayed with the initial odds, leaving the underdog second. Moshe's ace-king held and Smaron walked away in 15th place after crushing the tournament on Day 2 yesterday.

Chris Bolek Eliminated in 14th Place ($21,655)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Chris Bolek
Chris Bolek

Chris Bolek was living on the short stack for a little while and finally found a spot to get the last of his 178,000 chips in the middle. Unfortunately for him, he was called by Jeremy Wien in the big blind who was in a dominating position.

Jeremy Wien: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Chris Bolek: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The flop came {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades} which gave Bolek some chop outs, but the {6-Spades} on the turn and the {8-Clubs} on the river were of no help. The Day 2 chipleader was eliminated in 14th place, taking home $21,655.
