Straight and the Nut-Low Low Works for Koral

Level 13 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

We found Shawn Buchanan facing a bet from Tom Koral on sixth street with the latter sporting four to a straight on board.

Buchanan: {x-}{x-}/{a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Koral: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

Buchanan took a long time but decided to call, and he called one more bet on the river.

"Straight and a bad low," Koral said, showing {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a ten-high straight and the worst qualifying low. It was enough to scoop.

Tehan In the Danger Zone; Cernuto Crosses 100,000

Level 13 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
John Cernuto
John Cernuto

Razz

Cernuto: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{A-}{Q-}{8-} / {x-}
Tehan: {x-}{x-} / {K-}{2-}{3-}{J-} / {x-}

We caught up to the action on fifth street where Joe Tehan made a bet and John Cernuto called. On sixth, Cernuto decided that he would bet instead, and Tehan called.

Cernuto followed up with a bet on seventh and that threw Tehan into the tank. He thought about it for a couple of minutes.

"You got it, John?" Tehan asked. Cernuto just shrugged.

Tehan eventually decided to fold, leaving himself with just 3,000 left, as Cernuto built his stack up to over 100,000.

Matthew Schreiber Eliminates James Obst In Monster Pot

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 700 ante
James Obst from an earlier event
James Obst from an earlier event

Stud

Schreiber: {x-}{x-} / {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts} / {x-}
Horowitz: {x-}{x-} / {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Spades} / {x-}
Obst: {x-}{x-} / {K-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} / {x-}

We caught up to the action on sixth street with already over 40,000 in the pot. On sixth, Horowitz checked with his pair of tens over to Schreiber. Schreiber bet and Obst and Horowitz both called.

On seventh, Horowitz and Schreiber both checked over to Obst. Obst moved all in for less than a bet with his stack of 3,700. Both players eventually decided on calls.

Obst showed {K-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for two pairs.

"I can beat that," Schreiber said.

Horowitz turned up {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} for two pairs as well, albeit a worse two. Schreiber eventually turned up {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a slightly better two than Obst with his fours on board, and that was good to earn him the big pot, sealing Obst's elimination.

Fast Fall for Steury

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 700 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

Aaron Steury had a decent stack when he moved to Table 90, but he lost much of it when Mark Gregorich scooped him in a stud hi-lo pot. They were still playing that game when the 2011 H.O.R.S.E. bracelet winner got his remaining chips in before fourth street holding a {j-Clubs}. He got plenty of action as Brendan Taylor and Matthew Davidow were both in there with boards that developed low, with Taylor betting fifth, sixth, and seventh.

Steury: {x-}{x-}/{j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades}/{x-}
Taylor: {x-}{x-}/{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}/{x-}
Davidow: {x-}{x-}/{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}/{x-}

Davidow had a scary-looking board, and he raised on seventh when Taylor bet. Taylor called with {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for two pairs and a six-low. Davidow had {3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Spades} for a slightly worse low but a seven-high straight for high. Steury could beat neither hand and wished everyone good luck.

Arieh Takes a Bite Outta Hellmuth

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 700 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Omaha Hi-Lo

With a board of {10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and a pot over 20,000 already in the middle, Phil Hellmuth, Brendan Taylor, and Josh Arieh were involved in a pot. Taylor checked from the small blind over to Arieh who put out a bet. Hellmuth called and Taylor folded.

Arieh showed {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and his flush made Hellmuth mutter a slew of obscenities. Hellmuth flashed {A-}{K-}{2-}, and kept his other card down.

"I play nittier than all these guys here and I'm still getting called by this shit?" Hellmuth muttered to no one in particular.

"I had the nine-seven," Arieh said, stacking his new found chips smiling.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Taylor said. "Your hands both sucked!"

Hellmuth continued to mutter to himself about playing the best cards and getting called by worse hands as Arieh moved above the 200,000 chip-mark

Miller Raises Against Taylor's Strong Board

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 700 ante

Brendan Taylor bet sixth street with three to a wheel and four to a seven low on his board, and Ryan Miller put in a raise with his own three to a wheel.

Taylor: {x-}{x-}/{5-}{3-}{7-}{2-}
Miller: {x-}{x-}/{5-}{2-}{10-}{a-}

Taylor contemplated for a bit and called, then called another barrel on seventh street. Miller rolled over {6-}{3-}{7-} for a six-five low, and Taylor couldn't beat it.
