Broadway for Neto

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Further notables in the Brasilia room include Ian O'Hara, Jerry Odeen, Pierre Merlin, Dan Shak, and Jimmy Jonsson. They are all on starting stack still, while Brazil's Francisco Neto bumped up his stack early on.

Neto was involved in a big pot with his table neighbor in the cutoff and flopped Broadway on the board {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. With more than 12,000 in the middle already, both players opted to check the river, and the player in the cutoff showed {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}. Neto had that beat with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for the flopped straight and raked in the pot.

Crazy Early Action on Table 728

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante
Iraj Parvizi in an earlier event
Iraj Parvizi in an earlier event

Among the early highlights is Barny Boatman's stack which has seen a significant boost. But that was topped by some action that recently unfolded involving Iraj Parvizi.

First off was a minor pot with Fred Goff III, who finished 223rd in last year's World Series of Poker Main Event. Goff raised to 350 from the cutoff and Parvizi called in the small blind. The board of {9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} was checked through entirely and Goff won the pot with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

But right after, Goff made it 300 to go and Parvizi three-bet to 1,600 on the button. Victor Cianelli four-bet to 4,100 in the small blind and Parvizi was the only caller. On the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop, both players checked. Cianelli bet the {6-Spades} turn for 7,000 and Parvizi called before Cianelli's bet of 12,000 on the {A-Hearts} river seemingly shut down the action.

However, Parvizi announced a raise and put in 19,000, which was then turned into a mandatory min-raise to 24,000. Cianelli quickly moved all in for more than that and Parvizi asked for a count. Cianelli's all-in was for 32,850 and, after the 24,000 were pulled in from both players, Parvizi gave it one minute of consideration and folded.

In the very next hand, Parvizi lost another 2,000 when his {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} ended up second-best to an opponent's {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} and the stack of the Brit melted to just 11,000.

As for Cianelli, he finished 78th in the 2013 WSOP Main Event for a career-best score of $ 84,786 and is set for another deep run in the most prestigious tournament of the year.

With about 3,400 chips already in the middle and the board reading {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{K-Hearts}, action checked to Jen Shahade in the cutoff and she bet 2,000. The small blind called.

The {Q-Clubs} fell on the river and the small blind checked. Shahade bet again, 4,000 this time, and after a few moments of thought, her opponent called and she tabled {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for quad queens to take the pot.

A Few Hands With Sam Chartier

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Canadian Sam Chartier, who has more than $2.8 million in cashes and a collection of big scores from across the globe, is seated at Table 111 and appears to be off to a fantastic start. He's already turned his starting stack of 50,000 into more than 70,000, and we kept an eye on him for a bit to see how he was going about his business.

In the first hand we saw, Chartier was part of a three-way checkdown on a board of {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Someone showed {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}, prompting Chartier to muck, but another player won with {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

A few hands later, Chartier opened for a raise to 400 in middle position and everyone folded, with the big blind showing {3-}{2-}. Chartier showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

A bit after that, a player opened to 300 in early position and Chartier made it 1,000 to go. His opponent flashed a card we didn't see and folded.

When Chartier was back in middle position, he raised to 400 again and saw his opponent on the immediate left three-bet to 2,000. Chartier called. He check-called 1,000 on the {9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop, and the turn was a {9-Clubs}. Chartier checked again, this time folding to a bet of 5,000. His opponent showed {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

"Why do you always have to mess with me?" Chartier's neighbor asked with a laugh. "Good thing I had the king."

Grimes Takes from Yang

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

2007 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Jerry Yang tangled in a pot with Chadwick Grimes and the action was picked up on the {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} turn. Grimes checked out of the big blind and Yang bet 750 from the button. Grimes called. The {K-Clubs} on the river completed the board and Grimes checked again.

Yang bet 2,250 and Grimes carefully checked his stack before tossing the chips for a call. Yang nodded and tapped the table, which prompted Grimes to table his {A-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a pair of aces. Yang mucked and dropped just below starting stack.

Reixach Hits a Straight

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Sergi Reixach was in the big blind on a board of {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. He checked and an opponent in middle position bet 1,400 into the pot of 2,300. Reixach called, and the river brought a {q-Diamonds}. Reixach checked and his opponent quickly checked back. The Spaniard showed {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and his opponent confidently turned over {j-}{10-} for two pair, not realizing Reixach had hit a straight. Upon seeing the straight, the other player reached out and quickly turned his cards over.

Pratyush Buddiga Loses Some

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante
Pratyush Buddiga
Pratyush Buddiga

The player in the hijack opened to 400, the cutoff and button both called, and Pratyush Buddiga called from the big blind.

The four players saw a flop of {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} and action checked around to the button who bet 1,100. Buddiga called and the preflop raiser and the cutoff both folded.

The turn brought the {Q-Hearts} and both players checked.

The {4-Spades} fell on the river and Buddiga checked. After a few moments, his opponent checked behind and flipped over {J-Spades}{9-Spades} for the turned queen-high straight, which was best as Buddiga held {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs} for a pair of queens.
