Split Tables

Due to space constraints at the Empire Casino, the field is broken up into three different sections. The poker room on the first floor houses nine tables. There is a feature table in a swanky private room on the second floor along with four other tables near the entrance. The tables outside the poker room will be broken first.

Pescatori is a Threes-Full Stud

Max Pescatori has just won a big stud pot against Christoph Niesert, a bet by Niesert on every street and a call by Pescatori.

Niesert was showing {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Pescatori {7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Niesert bets on the river and Pescatori reraises, Niesert dwells up for a while and eventually calls and shows:

{A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{9-Spades}

Pescatori shows {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

And sevens full wins Pescatori a nice chunk of change.

Jetlagged?

There are a group of attractive young massage therapists wandering the main tournament area. Phil Hellmuth called one over complaining of jetlag and saying he needed a massage. Some other players at the table thought it was a great idea and they hired the whole team of masseuses. Phil Hellmuth, Jeff Madsen, Brandon Adams and Tony G are all currently being massaged. Jen Harman was a split second too late, and will have to wait until they are free.

David Williams Gets His Wrists Wrapped

When you are a high-profile poker player you can pretty much get what you want from the casino staff. You want a drink, you get a drink. You want a table at the coolest club in town, they hook you up.

A rather unusual example of this I have just witnessed. For some strange reason David Williams was spotted getting electrical tape wrapped around his wrists.

He must have ripped his sleeve or something, but a burly security guard has just been applying several layers of tape to his wrists.

I bet if I wanted my wrists taped I wouldn't get as speedy a service.

Jesus Likes Rolled-Up Deuces

STUD HI-- We picked up this hand on fifth street, with Chris Ferguson, Kenny Tran, and Michael Mizrachi contesting a three-way pot.

Chris Ferguson {2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}
Kenny Tran {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Michael Mizrachi {Q-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Kenny Tran bet out on fifth street, Ferguson raised, Mizrachi called and Tran called.

Sixth Street:

Chris Ferguson {2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Kenny Tran {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Michael Mizrachi {Q-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

Mizrachi checked, Tran checked, Ferguson bet, Mizrachi folded and Tran called.

On seventh street Ferguson bet and Tran called.

Ferguson turned up {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} in the hole for rolled-up deuces that turned to quads on fifth street and Tran mucked.

After the hand, Ferguson was up to 12,500 while Tran was down to 9,000 and Mizrachi was sporting an early short stack with 3,800.

Baptism of Fire for the Dealers

For many of the dealers here it is the first time they have ever dealt HORSE; in fact it's the first time many have even dealt limit games in general. They are doing a fantastic job in what must be baptism of fire for them.

Inevitably the floor managers are getting called over quite a lot and a lot of rulings are being requested. Bear in mind that not only is this new to the staff, but of course we have slightly different ways of doing things here in the UK than in the States, too.

They are doing a great job, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of controversy round the corner.
