One For Kabbaj

Hold'em:

Joining the action on a {8-Spades} {9-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} board, John Kabbaj checks, another player checks and Chris Ferguson bets 300. Kabbaj raises to 600 and both the other two players call. On the {5-Spades} Kabbaj bets 300 and gets called while Ferguson folds. Kabbaj shows {Q-Clubs} {J-Spades} for the flopped nuts which takes the pot.

Musical Chairs

Several players have arrived late for today's H.O.R.S.E. tournament, and as a result, the tournament staff had to do a little shuffling, no pun intended.

An extra table has been opened upstairs to accommodate the influx of late arrivals and it was filled by pulling one player from each of eight tables. Some of the chosen ones included Howard Lederer, Michael Binger, Tony Bloom, Kelly Kim, Shaun Deeb and Robert Williamson III, who, as a result, are now pitted against each other at said added table.

Currently, the total number of entrants stands at 107.

Brown Quartered

Omaha 8:

Chad Brown bets 300 on a {4-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {5-Clubs} {K-Clubs} board and gets raised by his opponent. He makes the call and then check-calls 300 more on the {10-Diamonds} river. Brown flips {A-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {J-Hearts} for the wheel but his opponent turns over {A-Hearts} {3-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} for the wheel and a 6-high straight as well to take three quarters of the pot.

The Worm Turns

Nice Guy Mickey Wernick - Gave Me His Food Voucher
Nice Guy Mickey Wernick - Gave Me His Food Voucher
Omaha 8:

Mickey Wernick, having started off gathering the chip lead on his table, has taken a couple of Omaha-based knocks. Just now he got involved with Barry Greenstein after his bet got it heads up on the flop.
The board: {2-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} Wernick bet out, Greenstein raised, and he called. The river paired the {2-Clubs} - check to button Greenstein, who bet the 300 he is allowed to. That did it though, Wernick showed a rueful {A-Hearts} {4-Clubs} which must have looked so promising on the flop, but like Royal Mail on a bad day, failed to deliver.

Aiming As Low As You Can

Razz:

Mori Eskandani, who produces shows such as Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker, is playing today on Mike Matusow's table. He's just managed to pick up a pot from Andreas Hoivold, betting his {3-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {9-Clubs} board and the Norwegian folding {5-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}.

Nearby, John Juanda just took a pot off Chad Brown. Brown had been the aggressor, betting his {7-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {4-Hearts} board on sixth street with Junda calling with {7-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {6-Spades} {5-Hearts} . On seventh, Brown checked and Juanda threw out 300. Brown made the call and Juanda flipped A-2-6 for a 7-6-5-2-A low while Brown could only turn over 2-4-Q for a 8-7-4-3-2 low.

Close to the Edge

Razz:

Stephen Pearce has played a good number of hands in the first two levels, and doesn't need too much encouragement at the moment to get his chips in. It's worked well so far, but not in this most recent Razz hand I saw: Pearce was showing {2-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {10-Spades} against Lawrence's {7-Clubs} {8-Spades} {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs} . After calling for his river card, Pearce checked and then started to count out 300 (the potential call amount) in 25 chips in front of him. This puzzling behavior was soon explained as he was indeed made to call a river bet. He announced, "Nine," only to be one bettered with, "Eight," the young American tabling {5-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} to his {4-Spades} {7-Hearts} {3-Clubs} .

It was good timing for him - as he scooped this pot he'd been down to his last 1,025... against all expectation it does look like this tournament could progress at a reasonably swift pace.

Fish And Chips

Phil Hellmuth has just got fish and chips for dinner. "Hey Mike," he shouts, "When you're in London, you have to have fish and chips!"

Mike replied, "You're meant to eat them from inside a newspaper though!"

He Has Rolled-Up Bullets Baby!

Stud:

Paul Jackson, with an eventual board of {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {7-Spades} {2-Spades} bets 300 on fifth street, Hellmuth showing {A-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {8-Spades} raises to 600 and then bets both sixth street and seventh street after Jackson checks both. Eventually Jackson makes the call at the end and Hellmuth says, "I have rolled-up aces," showing {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. Jackson can only make queens and eights and Hellmuth takes down another pot.

Pearce Pinches Pot from the Devilfish

Devilfishly Unlucky
Devilfishly Unlucky
Stud 8:

Heads up between Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott and Stephen Pearce. Devilfish is showing the {2-Clubs} {7-Clubs} , Pearce the {5-Hearts} {3-Hearts} - the former bets, the latter raises; Call. The raiser switches round when Devifish adds a third club, the {8-Clubs} , to his hand and raises when Pearce bets his {5-Diamonds} . Not at all deterred, he gets his river card for free when both players check. So finally their hands look like this:
Devilfish: {2-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {9-Spades}
Pearce: {5-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {6-Spades}
Devilfish calls a final 300 and is shown the {2-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {3-Clubs} in his opponent's hand - good for the high (straight) and the low.

"Four clubs," grumbles Ulliott, before saying, "It's the dealer, I remember her from the satellite yesterday."
