Arnaud Mattern Eliminated in 23rd Place (£25,918)

He shall go to the ball after all
He shall go to the ball after all
Arnaud Mattern got his last in against, once again, Doyle Brunson. He got it in good.

Mattern: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Brunson: {8-Clubs} {8-Spades}

Board: {Q-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}

A murmur of "Awwww," rose from the rail as the eight hit the river, busting the EPT-winning Frenchman. Brunson is up to 496,000.

On the upside for Arnaud, at least he can attend his own 30th birthday party now.

Liz Lieu Eliminated in 22nd Place (£25,918)

Liz Lieu

"Shares are down," joked a member of the rail as the final table was robbed of it's most aesthetically pleasing member. With her stack dribbling, Liz Lieu raised it up with {A-?}{J-?} and received one caller in Matt Hawrilenko.

With {9-?}{7-?}, Hawrilenko not only hit the {7-?}{7-?}{4-?} flop, but smashed it to smithereens. He checked, and Lieu pushed in. Snap, blank, blank and Lieu was out.

Wilf Puts the Pressure On

We arrived to see a three-way pot that had made it to the turn, the board reading {2-Clubs} {A-Spades} {6-Clubs} {4-Spades}. Sandor Demjan in the small blind position had 50,000 in front of him and so did Konstantin Bücherl under the gun; our powers of deduction led us to the conclusion that Demjan had bet out and Bücherl had called. Over to Saar Wilf -- who announced all in to cover them both. Demjan folded swiftly, and after a moment, so did Bücherl, albeit reluctantly.

Wilf is still our chip leader and is now on 900,000. With the average at 477,000 though, this really is still anyone's game.

Man in Black Fights Back

Cashing in
Cashing in
James Akenhead raised to 27,000 from the cutoff only for Sandor "Really Looks A Lot Like Johnny Cash" Demjan to make it 64,000 from the button. Call.

They saw a {10-Spades} {6-Hearts} {9-Clubs} flop and Akenhead checked. Demjan promptly announced all in, and, snapping his cards resignedly, Akenhead folded.

The next hand Demjan raised from the cutoff and picked up a caller in Markus Ristola on the button. Demjan bet out 50,000 on the {5-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} flop and Ristol called that too, but Demjan announced all in on the {A-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} urn and Ristola eventually passed. Demjan is up over the 300,000 mark again.

Liu-ser

Eric Liu, formerly in second place chip-wise, has dropped right down to 507,000 after getting involved with Praz Bansi.

We're not sure exactly what happened, but the board read {Q-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {K-Spades} and it looked as though Bansi had announced all in on the river. Whatever happened there, Liu folded and Bansi is up to 573,000.

Quickies

Couple of quick hands from the back room:

(1) Saar Wilf raised to 27,000. Thomas Bichon called. {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts} board was checked down with Wilf's {Q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} taking the pot.

(2) Antoine Saout raised to 31,000 and James Akenhead pushed. After les dwellements, Saout folded.

Konstantin Bücherl Out in 21st Place (£25,918)

Konstantin Brutal
Konstantin Brutal
Jason Mercier had already taken a pretty serious pot out of the hands of Matt Hawrilenko -- Mercier raised to 23,000, Hawrilenko made it 85,000 and then Mercier made it 384,000 to go. Hawrilenko folded.

So he was on around 600,000 when he raised to 24,000 under the gun on the last hand of the level and Steven Fung called from the button. Over to Konstantin Bücherl in the big blind, who moved all in for 207,000 more. Mercier called, Fung folded, and they were on their backs.

Mercier: {A-Spades} {J-Hearts}
Bücherl: {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}

Board: {6-Spades} {4-Spades} {10-Hearts} {10-Spades} {7-Spades}

Oh dear. As tablemate Tony Cousineau said, "Jason Mercier, ladies and gentlemen. So brutal."

Konstantin Bücherl becomes our 21st-place finisher, and Mercier is up to 860,000.
