Crazy Hand Sees Volper Take the Chip Lead

Quite the hand developed in the last hand before the break. It happened on a {q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop with 9,500 in the middle. Raul Paez was in the small blind and check-called a bet of 6,000 from Nikolay Volper in the big. The {10-Hearts} turn saw Paez check once again, but this time he check-raised to 48,400 after Volper had bet 9,000.

Volper thought for a bit and then said, "I call." He proceeded to turn over his cards ({Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}) even though he had about 17,000 behind. Volper was issued a one-round penalty for exposing his cards and had to play the hand out face up.

When the {Q-Clubs} spiked on the river and Volper filled up, he smiled and moved all in. Paez was speechless. He just sat there quietly and showed his hand {J-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. He had the nuts on the turn and continued to stare at the board for about 15 seconds before folding his hand.
