Event #3: Pot-Limit Omaha

Day 1 Completed

That's a Wrap!

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Haibo Chu: you know who I'm talking about, Willis!
Haibo Chu: you know who I'm talking about, Willis!

That'll be all she wrote, sports fans ... well, not quite. As is tradition with PokerNews Live Reporting anywhere in the world, it's that time of the night where we recap everything that's happened today.

151 of the best and brightest Pot Limit Omaha players from Australia and around the world ponied up $1,100 of the Australian variety to take part in today's Aussie Millions championship event. From the get go, we were caught off-guard by what played out, particularly with the elimination of defending champion and Norwegian online ice queen Annette Obrestad, who many thought would have another deep run in this event but incredibly, was the first to hit the rail.

It was also a quick day for many other notable players, including Aussies Grant Levy, Sammy Khouiss, Raj Ramakrishnan, Billy "The Croc" Arygros, Jackie Glazier and defending Aussie Millions champion Tyron Krost, as well as international superstars James Akenhead, Richard Ashby, Barny Boatman, Jarred Solomon and Graeme "Kiwi G" Putt.

However, the same can't be said for the six players who made the money today, but more importantly, the nine players who will be returning tomorrow to contest the final table! The man leading them all is none other than Melbourne's own Haibo Chu, who already has scored a major title here at Crown Casino when he won the Melbourne Poker Championships here in 2007.

Chu played a solid game all day, but he'll still have to be on his toes if he's going to take it to such solid competitors such as 2010 Adelaide Poker Championship Main Event winner Sean Dunwoodie, Australian Poker Hall of Famer Mel Judah and Michael "Sticky" Guttman, whom Judah already shares an Aussie Millions title with (they won the Teams Event here last year).

We also can't underestimate Antoine Bechara, who has already final-tabled the Opening Event and will be looking to go one better, plus there's still plenty of life left in Harry Demetriou, Aaron Kivelio and Joel Gaffney. And with PLO, anything goes!

Final Table Seating Allocation & Chip Counts
Seat 1: Michael Guttman - 52,000
Seat 2: Joel Gaffney - 75,000
Seat 3: Matthew Konnecke - 133,000
Seat 4: Sean Dunwoodie - 339,000
Seat 5: Aarno Kivelio - 139,000
Seat 6: Haibo Chu - 395,000
Seat 7: Mel Judah - 99,000
Seat 8: Antoine Bechara - 65,000
Seat 9: Harry Demetriou - 222,000

Be sure to join us here at PokerNews from 4pm AEDT tomorrow when we bring you all the action of the 2011 Aussie Millions $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha final table. Until then, it's ciao for now!

"Players, You're on Break ... No Wait, You're Bagging Up!"

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Vince Moro: possibly holds the record for quickest final table bubble in history
Vince Moro: possibly holds the record for quickest final table bubble in history

Suddenly, BUST-OUTS, three of them! All within about 90 seconds of each other - and now we have our final table of nine players!

As the players who weren't involved in a hand were about to depart for the next 10-minute break, Mag Algassim moved the last of his money into the middle with {J-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{x-} but was called by Harry Demetriou's {A-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Neither hand improved on the board of {7-Spades}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Algassim was ousted in 12th place.

At the same time, Mark Segal had moved the last of his money into the middle pre-flop after being reraised by Haibo Chu. Antoine Bechara tank-folded before Chu called, showing down {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Spades} against Segal's {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Segal did pair up on the board of {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}, but it wasn't enough and he had to settle for 11th place.

Then, as almost the entire field had crossed the rail, the cry of "All in, call" went up from table 29, where Vince Moro was in great shape to double up with {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{J-Spades} against the {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} of Mel Judah, but incredibly, Judah caught a runner-runner full house on the board of {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts} to send Moro out in 10th place!

And just like that, ladies and gents, we're done for the day! The players are bagging and tagging and we're now about to wrap this puppy up!

Oh No, Aarno!

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Aarno Kivelo: keeps on keeping on!
Aarno Kivelo: keeps on keeping on!

Aarno Kivelio had been crippled by Joel Gaffney earlier in this level but has just scored two double-ups to be get back to more than 135,000 as the next break approaches.

Earlier, Gaffney had moved the last of his money into the middle before the flop with {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} against Kivelio's {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, but his hand held up after the board was spread {9-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades}, leaving Kivelio with just 33,500 in chips.

Moments later, Kivelio got those chip back when his {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} improved to a straight on the board of {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} against Gaffney's {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} before scoring some more off Haibo Chu when he got his money in on a flop of {10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{J-Clubs} with {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against's Chu's {K-}{Q-}{8-}{4-}.

The turn and river blanked out {2-Hearts}, {5-Diamonds} and we're still at 12 players as we edge closer to the next break of the night.

Wigg Walloped

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Anton Wigg: all gone.
Anton Wigg: all gone.

With only moments before the start of the new blind level, Anton Wigg was felted at the hands of Haibo Chu in 13th place and as a result we're now only three spots away from the final table.

Mark Segal potted it to 14,000 before Chu re-potted to 48,000. Wigg then moved his last 36,500 into the middle and Segal lamented before eventually letting his hand go.

"I have to be behind, surely!" Segal exclaimed.

"You were," Chu replied, quickly fanning out {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} before turning his attention to Wigg. "You got a wrap? {10-}{9-}{8-}{7-}?"

Wigg nodded and rolled up {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. "I knew it, I called your hand!" Chu cried.

The dealer then proceeded to run out a board which read {8-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, giving Chu aces-up, the pot and Wigg's scalp.

Jenny Son Eliminated

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Jenny Son: the last woman standing
Jenny Son: the last woman standing

Jenny Son has just hit the rail as the last female standing in this year's Aussie Millions $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha event, courtesy of Antoine Bechara.

All the money was in the middle on a flop of {Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}; Son had moved the last of her chips into the middle with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, but was trailing Bechara who had hit two pair with his {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

Neither the turn of the {5-Spades} or the river {4-Clubs} changed anything and Son was confirmed as our latest elimination. Moments later, Matthew Konnecke made his final stand when he pushed all-in with {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, but he quickly sat back down to collect double what he started with after Anton Wigg couldn't improve his {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} om the board of {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{K-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}.
