Online Poker Weekend: Sunday Million Goes to 'ziggy47'

Online Poker Weekend: Sunday Million Goes to 'ziggy47' 0001

Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch pulled off one of the most unlikely final-table, "worst to first" runs in recent online memory to take down the weekend's biggest event by total prize purse, the PokerStars Sunday Million. Elsewhere, the normal Full Tilt Sunday $750,000 Guaranteed went on a schedule hiatus for the duration of FTOPS IX, to be replaced by an exciting Event #10 finale (story here). And finally, Pass_72 pulled off a wire-to-wire victory in the Stars Sunday Warmup to finish off the night's biggest online events.

PokerStars Sunday Million

The most recent edition of the PokerStars Sunday Million had 8,236 participants for a prize pool of $1,647,200. Notable results included Scott "BigRiskky" Clements with a 31st place finish for $2,964.96, and "Joe_Banks" in 11th place for $8,236.00. The final table was not lacking firepower. It featured Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch, known also as "B O K E", who has notched over $800,000 in online tournament winnings. Also present was j.thaddeus, with over $300,000 in online earnings. The chip counts heading into the final table were:

ohhaaahhh – 23,343,672

YrrsiNN – 12,714,714

WSODice – 11,975,400

puntnko – 10,016,289

j.thaddeus – 9,409,657

Foggsy – 6,038,604

okidokiclub – 5,543,549

lissem – 2,436,968

Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch – 881,147

With a quick triple-up to three million in chips followed by a double-up to six million, Bokesch gave life to his once short stack. J.thaddeus also found some good fortune early on at the final table. After blinds moved to 150,000/300,000 and a 30,000 ante, j.thaddeus doubled up through ohhaaahhh. The board read {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades}{k-Hearts} and j.thaddeus was all in with {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} against the ohhaaahhh's {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. With ohhaaahhh drawing dead, j.thaddeus jumped to the top of the chip count with over 24 million while ohhaaahhh dropped down to 11 million.

The first elimination came when the blinds had reached 200,000/400,000 with an ante of 40,000. Lissem was all in for 836,968 with {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} against puntnko's {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. The queens held up and lissem finished the tournament in ninth place. Next to exit was WSODice. From early position WSODice made it 1,050,000 to play. Ohhaaahhh then reraised to 5.6 million from the small blind, enough to put WSODice all in. The call was made and the hands were revealed. It was {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for ohhaaahhh, crushing the {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} held by WSODice. The {9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Spades} board was not enough for WSODice, who finished eighth.

When the blinds reached 250,000/500,000 with an ante of 50,000, Foggsy's tournament run came to an end. From middle position, Foggsy moved all in for just under four million with {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and was called by okidokiclub holding {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. The board ran out {3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Spades}{k-Spades} and Foggsy departed in seventh place. YrrsiNN would soon follow. At the 300,000/600,000/60,000 level, Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch made it 1,457,000 from early position and YrrsiNN moved all in from the cutoff for 8.8 million with {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}. Bokesch quickly called, tabling {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}. The board came out {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds} eliminating YrrsiNN in sixth place and giving Bokesch the chip lead with over 20 million. Four hands later it would be over 30 million when he eliminated okidokiclub. Bokesch raised to 1,450,000 preflop, prompting okidokiclub to move all in for just over six million with {a-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Bokesch called with {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and won the hand when the board delivered the nuts, coming out {j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Okidokiclub earned $57,652 for the fifth-place showing.

The chip leader at the start of the final table, ohhaaahhh, was the next to be eliminated. Puntnko raised to 1.5 million from the cutoff and ohhaaahhh called from the small blind. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Spades} and ohhaaahhh moved all in for just under 15 million. Puntnko made the call, showing {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, ahead of ohhaaahhh's {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. The {2-Spades} turn and {7-Diamonds} river catapulted puntnko to the chip lead and ended ohhaaahhh's tournament in fourth for $74,124.

Down to three players, the chip counts were:

puntnko – 35,671,937

Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch – 30,092,761

j.thaddeus – 16,595,302

Soon only two players remained. With play moving to the 400,000/800,000/80,000 level, Bokesch raised from the button to 1,950,000. J.thaddeus moved all in from the small blind for just over 13 million. A snap-call from Bokesch showed his {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} in great shape against j.thaddeus's {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}. The flop looked bleak for j.thaddeus coming out {10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{k-Hearts}, but the {7-Clubs} turn brought eight more outs. However, the river was the {8-Diamonds}, ending the night for j.thaddeus in third for $91,419.60.

Heads-up play began with the final two very close in chips. Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch was slightly in the lead with 43,409,883 to puntnko's 38,950,117. A chip-equity chop was agreed upon and the players fought it out for the remaining $30,000. A few hands later it was all over. Bokesch made it 1,900,000 to play and puntnko reraised to 6,400,000. Bokesch then moved all in and puntnko made the all-in call. It was {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} for Bokesch ahead of puntnko's {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. The board ran out {8-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and puntnko was out in second, earning $151,283.

Daniel "ziggy47" Bokesch won the Sunday Million after starting the final table with just one percent of the chips in play, finishing off a stunning run to a $182,438 payday.

PokerStars Sunday Warmup

The PokerStars Sunday Warmup drew 3,559 entrants, to fall just shy of its $750,000 guarantee and offer an unexpected overlay bonus to its participants. First place here awarded $101,250. Leading the way into the final table was Pass_72, with the final table's beginning chip counts as follows:

Pass_72 – 12,217,012

yosef12 – 6,607,930

Scriptdude – 3,056,424

kloun7 – 2,974,392

rivermanl – 2,968,668

shadav55 – 2,258,640

Maluko0 – 2,217,244

aka_advanced – 2,138,704

BIGSHANN – 1,150,986

With the blinds at 80,000/160,000 and an ante of 16,000, short-stacked BIGSHANN moved all in from the cutoff for nearly 1.2 million. From the big blind, rivermanl called and showed {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}, ahead of BIGSHANN's {j-Spades}{2-Spades}. Neither improved and BIGSHANN was the ninth-place finisher. The next one out was Shadav55. Down to 354,640 in chips and after a jump in blinds, Shadav55 called all in from the big blind with {7-Spades}{2-Spades} after Pass_72 min-raised from the small blind with {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. The board ran out {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and Shadav55 was sent packing in eighth place. A few hands later, Pass_72 busted another. From the small blind, aka_advanced moved all in for just over 1 million and Pass_72 made the call showing {k-Spades}{5-Hearts}, just beating the {q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} held by aka_advanced. The board came out {j-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}, eliminating aka_advanced in seventh place.

With blinds of 125,000/250,000 and an ante of 25,000, Maluko0 was next to be eliminated. All in preflop with {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, Maluko0 dominated rivermanl's {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. Unfortunately for Maluko0, the flop delivered the {j-Diamonds} and no king would follow. Maluko0 earned $23,250 for the sixth-place finish.

The blinds were 150,000/300,000 with an ante of 30,000 with five players remaining. The chip counts were:

Pass_72 – 16,020,358

kloun7 – 7,135,384

Scriptdude – 6,224,948

rivermanl – 4,721,142

yosef12 – 1,488,168

Six hands later, in unusual fashion, the tournament was over. Thosesix hands saw the final four eliminations and the crowning of the event's winner.

Fifth place was determined when yosef12 went all in for 1.45 million with {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} against the {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} of chip leader Pass_72. The flop brought help to Pass_72 coming out {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and yosef12 could not improve, exiting with $30,750. Two hands later, rivermanl busted. Scriptdude made it 900,000 from the cutoff and rivermanl moved all in from the button for 4.3 million. Then, from the small blind, Pass_72 reraised to 7.7 million and successfully isolated the action when Scriptdude folded. Pass_72 showed {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} and was racing against rivermanl's {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. The flop came {j-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, keeping rivermanl in the lead. The {2-Spades} turn meant rivermanl needed to dodge an ace or queen to double up and be back in position to win the tournament, but the {a-Hearts} river dashed those hopes, and rivermanl finished in fourth place, earning $38,625.

Just two hands later only two players would remain. Kloun7 made it 1.2 million from the button and Pass_72 raised enough from the big blind to put kloun7 all in. Kloun7 made the call showing {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, but was in bad shape against Pass_72's {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}. The board ran out {5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and kloun7 earned $48,750 for the third-place finish.

Heads-up play began with these chip counts:

Pass_72: 30,205,052

Scriptdude: 5,384,948

It took just one more hand for the tournament to end. Scriptdude moved all in from the small blind for 5,384,948 with {k-Spades}{9-Spades} and was called by Pass_72, showing {a-Spades}{2-Spades}. The board came out {6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and Scriptdude finished as runner-up, earning $71,250.

Pass_72 won the tournament in impressive fashion, never surrendering the chip lead at the final table and earning $101,250 for the victory. The final results were:

1. Pass_72 - $101,250

2. Scriptdude - $71,250

3. kloun7 - $48,750

4. rivermanl - $38,625

5. yosef12 - $30,750

6. Maluko0 - $23,250

7. aka_advanced - $15.750

8. shadav55 - $9,750

9. BIGSHANN - $6,750
