Who Will Win the 2018 888pokerLIVE Bucharest €888 Main Event?

888pokerLIVE trophy
888pokerLIVE trophy

Only 11 players out of a 469-entry strong field remain in the first-ever 888pokerLIVE Festival €888 Main Event in Bucharest and the lion's share of the Grand Ballroom of the €360,192 prize pool will be up for grabs when the finalists return to the Grand Ballroom of the stunning JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel as of 12.15 p.m. local time. All of them have €5,700 guaranteed for their efforts, while all eyes are set on the trophy and payday of €71,042 that comes along with it.

Stefan Fabian thrones atop the counts with 2,460,000 and there are further eight Romanians in contention to keep the title on home soil in Madalin Cornel Petraru (1,450,000), Bogdan Diaconu (1,415,000), Marian Strachinescu (1,365,000), Andrei Racolta (1,225,000 ), Ferenc Csaba Pal (900,000), Catalin Pop (895,000), Radu Pitic (475,000) and Andrei Alecu (315,000). Pop has already won two trophies on the 888pokerLIVE circuit, winning the Main Event at the King's Casino in Rozvadov for €80,000 and emerging victorious in the €2,200 High Roller in Barcelona in 2017.

Furthermore, two 888poker online qualifiers are among the finalists: Krzysztof Chmielowski from Poland (2,000,000) bought in directly into the $109 satellite and Sinisa Radovanovic from Serbia (1,590,000) started his journey in a $5 satellite, then won his seat for the trip to Romania's capital in the very same $109 qualifier. They sit in 2nd and 3rd place respectively when action resumes in level 22 with blinds of 15,000/30,000 and a running ante of 5,000.

Andrei Alecu Eliminated in 11th Place (€5,700)

Andrei Alecu
Andrei Alecu

Marian Strachinescu won some chips back in a three-bet pot and then opened to 70,000 soon after. Andrei Alecu, who had folded every hand so far to drop to around six big blinds, shoved from the small blind and Strachinescu called.

Andrei Alecu: {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Marian Strachinescu: {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

The {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} made a split pot very likely, but the {2-Hearts} turn and {6-Spades} river let the kicker play to eliminate Alecu in 11th place for €5,700.

Ferenc Csaba Pal
Ferenc Csaba Pal

Ferenc Csaba Pal raised to 60,000 on the button and Marian Strachinescu three-bet to 180,000 in the small blind, Pal called and announced all in in the dark for his remaining six big blinds. Strachinescu glanced at him while the flop fell {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and asked if he had indeed declared that.

Pal replied not with words, but turning over his cards while Strachinescu had not called yet, it was the {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Strachinescu called with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Catalin Pop could not resist the urge but say "but this time your king is not good on the river," referring to two big all in showdowns of the previous day in which Pal spiked a river to eliminate two and one opponent respectively.

The {8-Diamonds} turn and {A-Clubs} river were both blanks and Pal was eliminated in 10th place for €5,700. All remaining nine players will now redraw to the final table and take a short break before playing down to a winner on the live stream table. The PokerNews updates going forward will be according to the 30 minute delay of the stream.

Krzysztof Chmielowski and Stefan Fabian
Krzysztof Chmielowski and Stefan Fabian

Krzysztof Chmielowski raised to 85,000 with the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and Stefan Fabian three-bet to 240,000 from the cutoff with the {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}. Andrei Diaconu on the button let go of {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Chmielowski asked for the stack size of Fabian before letting his shot clock run down to five seconds and then move all in.

Fabian used one time bank extension, used some table chat to get additional information and called it off.

The {K-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop improved Chmielowski to top pair. The {2-Spades} turn and {4-Hearts} river gave the 888poker online qualifier from Poland a straight and Fabian was eliminated in 9th place for €6,900.

Radu Pitic: {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Krzysztof Chmielowski: {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Along with his two over cards, Chmielowski picked up a gutshot on the {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop, and while the {7-Spades} turn gave further counterfit outs, the {K-Clubs} river ended Pitic's run in 8th place for €8,500.

Madalin Cornel Petraru: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Andrei Racolta: {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

The board of {K-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades} left Petraru drawing dead and he was eliminated in 6th place for €15,700. Racolta jumped into a comfortable second place while Krzysztof Chmielowski is still far ahead.

Sinisa Radovanovic
Sinisa Radovanovic

Andrei Racolta raised to 230,000 with the {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} on the button and was called by marian Strachinescu in the small blind with {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Sinisa Radovanovic with {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} in the big blind. On the {8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop the trio checked and Strachinescu bet the {9-Spades} turn for 300,000, both opponents called.

The {7-Clubs} river saw Strachinescu check, and Radovanovic turned his pair into a bluff by moving all in, Racolta with the stone cold nuts reshoved and Strachinescu folded. Radovanovic, who had qualified for this evenmt through 888poker after starting at a $5 step satellite, earned himself a payday of €25,800.
