Lin Ruida Tops Day 1c in Madrid

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Lin Ruida
Lin Ruida

The third and final regular starting day of the 2020 888poker LIVE Madrid €888 Main Event made it very clear from the start that it would turn out to be the far strongest flight and a total of 420 entries at the Casino Gran Madrid right in the centre shopping street boosted the field size to 886 entries thus far.

However, that number will certainly increase as the turbo heat as of noon local time on Sunday, February 2nd, 2020, remains and has been capped to 100 players for capacity reasons. The first two levels of Day 2 just a few hours later as of 5 p.m. local time also provide the opportunity to enter and re-enter with a fresh stack of 88,000.

With recommencing blinds of 1,200-2,400 and a big blind ante of 2,400, many poker enthusiasts from near and far may be very tempted to join the action for a shot at the guaranteed prize pool of €800,000. On top of that, a package for the 2020 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas worth $12,500, courtesy of event sponsor 888poker, represents an additional incentive.

Another 420 players have bagged up chips, some of which may have done so multiple times throughout the three starting days thus far and will carry over their biggest stack into Day 2. A new chip leader has emerged as China's Lin Ruida topped Day 1c with a stack of 588,200. He comes fresh off a deeper run at the 2019 EPT Prague, his only recorded live cash thus far, and will aim to make the second flag on his Hendon Mob profile count.

Daniel Rodriguez Bureta follows in second place with 487,500 and emerged near the top of the leaderboard in the final level of the night when he hit quads against George Demetriou and saw his river raise paid off. Three further players from Spain follow in Cesar Garcia (424,000), David Nuñez Argúello (409,700), Jorge Perez Abarca (404,700) while Portugal's Nuno Chiou (401,600) narrowly missed out on the top five.

Other big stacks belong to such familiar names as Valentin Cristea (368,800), Marius Gicovanu (363,100), George Demetriou (333,200), Petru Tarlev (317,600), €2,200 High Roller third-place finisher Arie Zilberman (307,400), Mehdi Hsissen (270,000), Evangelos Bechrakis (222,000), Ka Kwan Lau (221,000), and Tom-Aksel Bedell to name just a few.

Two 888poker ambassadors took part on Day 1c along with a plethora of online and VIP qualifiers. While Sofia Lovgren was eliminated during the final hands of the night and will have to re-enter on Day 1d or during the first two levels on Day 2, fellow ambassador Daria Feshchenko avoided the same fate and advanced with a stack of 130,000.

Adrian Constantin, the last player to lift the 888poker LIVE Main Event trophy for the winner shots at the Aspers Casino in December 2019 also made it through, albeit with just 77,700, while the London runner-up Leon Louis will return with an above-average stack of 192,900.

Tomorrow's penultimate scheduled tournament day in Madrid will feature an exciting early stage with plenty of possible chip movements and the race to the money during the late stages. Tune back in to PokerNews then to find out will make it one step closer to become the latest champion of the popular mid-stakes circuit in Europe.

Humberto Galindo was the player at risk in a flip with {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} against the {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} of 888poker ambassador Sofia Lovgren and the board came {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs} to improve Galindo to kings and treys.

One hand later, Galindo opened to 5,000 and Lovgren jammed for her final 8,000, which Galindo called.

Sofia Lovgren: {j-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Humberto Galindo: {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}

On a board of {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs}, ace-high remained ahead and that spelled the end for Lovgren.

Berko Busts Again

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Tamer Kamel
Tamer Kamel

Scott Berko, who narrowly missed out on the final table in the last 888poker LIVE London Main Event and finished in 12th place, was on his second bullet of the day and that may soon become the third as his chips were pushed over to fellow Brit Tamer Kamel.

When the chips went into the middle on the {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{6-Spades} turn, Berko's {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} was drawing dead as Kamel held {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a set. This made the {3-Hearts} river a formality as Kamel further climbed on the leader board.

Quads for Rodriguez Moreno

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Jose Luis Lopez Exposito
Jose Luis Lopez Exposito

With already 95,000 in the middle to the {q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} flop, Miguel Angel Rodriguez Moreno checked out of the small blind and 888poker qualifier Jose Luis Lopez Exposito bet 35,000, which Arik Filstein called. Rodriguez Moreno called all-in for 25,600 and they headed to the {q-Clubs} turn, the shove of Lopez Exposito was quickly called.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez Moreno: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Jose Luis Lopez Exposito: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Arik Filstein: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The {9-Diamonds} on the river was a blank and that ended an incredible three-way showdown which let Rodriguez Moreno triple up with quads.

Big Field Expected for Day 1c of the 2020 888poker LIVE Madrid Main Event

Casino Gran Via Madrid
Casino Gran Via Madrid

With an ambitious guaranteed prize pool of €800,000, the first-ever 888poker LIVE Madrid festival set the bar of expectations very high and the first two starting days have already attracted a field of 446 entries at the Casino Gran Via. With the weekend now coming around, the staff is attracting the biggest starting day of the €888 Main Event thus far in the first major live poker tournament of the casino.

It is the last chance for all those that wish to take advantage of the regular structure of 11 levels of 50 minutes each as of 5 p.m. local time, as the fourth and final flight as of noon the following day will be played in a turbo format prior to the restart of Day 2 as of 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 2nd, 2020. All Day 1 survivors will then return to their seats and the late registration and re-entry period will conclude after the first two levels and following break on Day 2.

On top of the massive guarantee, the flagship event of the festival also comes with an additional incentive as the winner can look forward to a trip to Las Vegas thanks to the $12,500 package for the 2020 WSOP Main Event courtesy of event sponsor.

The tournament comes with a popular deep stack in Spain, as all participants receive 88,000 in chips, and unlimited re-entries can be purchased. Furthermore, players can participate in as many Day 1s as they wish to then pick the stack they wish to bring forward to Day 2. It will also be possible to surrender the stack at the end of the registration period and re-enter with a full stack.

The Main Event features the popular big blind ante format and another recent innovation is the 30-second shot clock from start-to-finish. At the start of each day, players will receive four time bank extensions if they need to reflect on a decision a bit longer and the time banks will be used automatically.

So far, 93 players on Day 1a and 149 players on Day 1b have secured their spot for Day 2 already and many more will follow after what is expected to be a very busy day at the tables. Stay tuned right here on PokerNews, your one-stop-shop for all the action from Madrid.
