Players Will Get Another Chance to Qualify for Day 2

888poker LIVE returns to Spain with its next stop on its 888poker LIVE tour here at Barcelona©Casino in the sunny city of Barcelona. The festival moves on from its previous stop in London, which took place just last month, to land on the beautiful beaches of Barcelona.

The 2023 888Poker LIVE Barcelona Festival €1,100 Main Event continues today with Day 1c where players will hope to join the 49 survivors from the previous flights for Day 2 on Saturday 20th May. PokerNews will bring six days of live coverage to readers with action from four starting flights as well as the final three days until a champion is crowned on Monday 22nd May.

All players start with 30,000 chips and the first three regular starting days will feature a 45-minute clock while the turbo Day 1d flight will offer players a faster-paced game with 20-minute levels. Late Registration will be available for the first two levels of Day 2 on Saturday 20th May.

Norwegian Kristian Larsson bagged biggest yesterday as he managed to accumulate 206,200 chips to take into Day 2. He was followed by Nuno Duarte (187,400) and Fabio Peluso (151,700).

888Poker ambassadors Vivian Saliba (61,000) and Lucia Navarro (45,400) also managed to secure a bag for Day 2.

Cards will be in the air from 6 p.m. local time with ten levels being played. This tournament features unlimited reentries and all players who bag will advance to Day 2. There will be a 60-minute dinner break after Level 6 and there will be a 15-minute break after Level 3.

Simpson Gets Value With Flush

There was 2,700 in the pot. Ian Simpson was in the big blind against his opponent in the hijack.

The flop came Q♠8♦2♦ and Simpson check called the 1,100 continuation bet.

Action quickly checked through on 6♥ turn.

The 10♦ was the river and Simpson fired 4,000. His opponent went into the tank before throwing in calling chips. Simpson tabled 6♦5♦ for a flush to take down the pot.

"No Friends in Poker"

Action folded around to the small blind who raised to 1,200. 888Poker ambassador Alexandre Mantovani was in the big blind and put his opponent all in for 7,300.

His opponent rechecked his cards before folding in which a tablemate said "You may be Brazilian but there are no friends in poker."

73 Players Survive to Day 2 at End of Day 1c of the 888poker Barcelona Main Event

Jordi Escriba leads the pack after an intense day of poker action where 73 players of the 180 entrants survived the ten levels of play. Escriba bagged 209,400 for the chip lead but was followed closely behind by fellow Spanairds Jorge Diego (182,900) and Eduardo Riego (160,400).

Other notable who secured a bag included Italians Alessandro Pichierri (150,000) and Davide Suriano (91,700) as well as 888poker ambassadors Alexandre Mantovani (80,200), Ricardo Mateus (55,900) and Ian Simpson (36,500). Alexandra Botez fired two bullets in today's flight but was eliminated both times however her father Andrei Botez managed to secure 94,600 chips.

It wasn't 888poker streamer Nick Eastwood's day as the Brit was sent to an early bath before the first break. Presenters Josh Denzel and Jack Dean were also in action but both failed to secure a bag for Day 2.

Notable hands from the day included Simpson losing with pocket queens after his opponent called off his five-bet shove with ace-jack in a big pot early on.

Other big hands included Nicolae Suciu coolering his opponent, his set of nines ran into his set of kings to give him a big pot early in the day.

After the dinner break, Eduardo Riego couldn't believe his luck after his opponent called his four-bet only to triple barrel into his quad fives to become one of the biggest stacks in the room. It wouldn't be the last time Riego hit a big hand as towards the end of the day, heturned a full house to eliminate Ricardo De Dios who called off for his tournament life with pocket aces.

PokerNews will be back tomorrow with coverage of Day 2 which kicks off tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. local time where the 130 survivors will be joined by the survivors of Day 1d to play eight 60-minute levels.
