The 2019 Ante Up Poker Tour $250 Main Event Kicks Off Tonight at Tampa Bay Downs

Ante Up Poker Tour
Ante Up Poker Tour

The first Ante Up Poker Tour stop of 2019 brings players to the racetrack of Tamp Bay Downs which also boasts a luxurious 23-table poker room. While the festival has been taking place since the beginning of the week with multiple side events each day, the $250 Main Event is set to get underway at 6 p.m. EST this evening.

The tournament will consist of five starting flights, one on February 7th, and two on February 8th and 9th. An eventual champion will be crowned on February 10th on the last day of the festival. Not only will the winner reap in the rewards of a $60,000 guaranteed prizepool, but they will also be featured on the cover of Ante Up Magazine in March and earn a spot in the Ante Up World Championship Main Event in July.

While the poker room at Tampa Bay Downs has been running satellites for this event since the beginning of the year, they have also been running aggressive promotions to give daily tournament players numerous chances to win satellite seats or even Main Event seats.

When the action finally gets underway, players will begin with 25,000 starting chips with the blinds at 100/100. A big blind ante will be introduced in the second level and will continue throughout. The levels will be 30-minutes in length for all Day 1s and increase to 40 minutes on the final day. There will be a 10-minute break after every four levels with play ending after a total of 14 levels.

Late registration will remain open until the start of level nine. Players will be given the option of unlimited re-entries until that point or may re-enter for subsequent Day 1s. Should a player bag chips on multiple starting flights, only their best stack will be brought forward to the final day.

Shuffle Up and Deal

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

The tournament director has announced that the button will start in seat two and the cards are in the air on Day 1a of the $250 Ante Up Poker Tour Main Event. There are currently 22 entries to kick things off with late registration open until the start of level nine.

Dugan Makes Her Pay

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

On a board reading {j-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Spades}, the big blind led out for a pot-sized bet of 1,000 and Bobby Dugan was the lone caller from early position.

"If I hit, I'm gonna make you pay," Dugan said to the lady just a couple of seats over.

The river brought the {5-Hearts} and she led out for another 1,600. Dugan raised to 6,000 and his opponent looked him up. Dugan turned over {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a full house to scoop an early pot.

Dianaty Ships It Early

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

After a couple of early limpers, Vinh Nguyen raised to 400 on the button. Anthony Dianaty three-bet to 1,000 from the small blind and was called by Charlene Cable who limped in middle position and Nguyen.

The flop fell {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and the action checked around to the {7-Spades} on the turn. Dianaty checked again and Cable tossed in a bet of 3,000. Nguyen called only to have Dianaty check-raise to 10,000. Cable mucked her cards but Nguyen stuck around to see the {7-Hearts} on the river.

Dianaty shipped all in which prompted a quick fold from Nguyen, sending a healthy pot to Dianaty in the first level of the day.

Pocket Aces for Mattingly

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

A player in early position limped and Michael Mattingly raised to 400 from the hijack. The player on the button flatted and the limper called to see a {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds} flop.

The early-position player checked, Mattingly bet 500, and the button folded.

The early-position player called and then check-called a bet of 1,500 on the {9-Hearts} turn.

A third check on the {A-Clubs} river saw Mattingly bet 2,500 and his opponent paid it off. Mattingly rolled over the {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for aces full and his opponent mucked.

"Hopefully You Don't Have Three Kings"

Level 2 : 100/200, 100 ante
Matt Adibi
Matt Adibi

Matt Adibi limped under the gun and Sean Turow, who was next to act, raised to 500. Nikki Dugan came along from the button, both blinds folded, and Adibi called to make it three-way action to the {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop, which checked around.

When the dealer burned and turned the {K-Clubs}, Adibi checked and Turow bet 500. Dugan folded, Adibi called, and the {A-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Adibi came out firing to the tune of 2,500 and Turow called while saying, "Hopefully you don't have three kings."

"I don't," Adibi said with a smile. "Full house."

Adibi then rolled over the {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for kings full of queens and Turow mucked.
