Day 1a Started

Welcome to Day 1a of the Ante Up World Championship at Thunder Valley!

Ante Up Poker Tour World Championship

Since early July, the Ante Up Poker Tour has been at California’s Thunder Valley Casino Resort for both the Ante Up NorCal Classic and Ante Up World Championship.

Today, the stop will culminate with the $1,650 buy-in, $500,000 guaranteed Main Event. The winner of this tournament will not only walk away with a lot of cash but will also appear on the cover of Ante Up Magazine’s September issue.

Today marks the first of two starting flights with Day 1b taking place at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The surviving players from both flights will then return Sunday at Noon to play down to a winner.

“This year, the championship will play to the money on Day 1,” said Thunder Valley’s Ben Erwin. “Players have shared across-the-board compliments about finishing the event on Sunday. I look forward to hearing from the players this year about playing to the money bubble on Day 1.”

This marks the sixth time the Ante Up World Championship will be held at Thunder Valley. Past winners of the Ante Up World Championship Main Event include Imad Lahham (2018), Jonathan George (2017), Cy Williams (2015), and Justo Avalos (2014).

Thunder Valley will host $365 single-table satellites all weekend long including a special “One and Done” satellite tonight at 6 p.m. where 40 seats are guaranteed.

“The satellite schedule is aggressive, no doubt about that,” Erwin said. “This is a big part of success, growth, and excitement of the Ante Up Worlds. Players have come to expect big guarantees and a bunch of opportunities to win their way into our most popular events. This year definitely delivers with more than 100 Main Event entries guaranteed.”

Thunder Valley is a AAA Four Diamond luxury resort that features a Las Vegas-style casino, more than 400 oversized and well-appointed guest rooms, a spa with complimentary steam room and sauna access for hotel guests, outdoor pool and a wide variety of restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, including the signature High Steaks Steakhouse.

Ante Up Poker Tour was founded by Scott Long and Chris Cosenza, the publishers of Ante Up Magazine and hosts of the PokerCast, an award-winning weekly Internet audio show that dates back to 2007.

Chasengou Outkicks Patterson

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

With 1,200 already in the pot, Tyler Patterson checked on the small blind on a {5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop. Jackson Chasengou bet 700, and got calls from a middle position player, as well as Patterson.

The turn brought the {10-Spades}, Patterson led out for 1,600, Chasengou raised to 3,500, and the middle position player folded. Patterson made the call.

The river was the {8-Hearts}, and the action checked through. Both players owned trip tens, but Chasengou turned over {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, besting Patterson's {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} with the better kicker.

Foster's Pocket Aces are Good

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Jonathan George opened to 300 from the cutoff, Careen Foster three-bet to 800 from the small blind, and George made the call.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, and Foster check-called a 1,000 bet from George. Both players checked through the final two streets on a {2-Spades} turn and {4-Spades} river, and Foster showed {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}. George mucked and Foster took down the pot.

While the Ante Up World Championship $1,650 Main Event is the premier tournament on the schedule, it’s far from the only one. In fact, the tour has been at Thunder Valley since early July hosting a slew of side events.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team wasn’t on hand to capture the action from those events, but we still wanted to offer fans a brief look at all those who’ve captured titles during the Ante Up World Championship.

For example, Event #22: $160 H.O.R.S.E. drew 65 runners and produced a $8,450 prize pool. The tournament came to an end when Ante Up Magazine co-publisher Scott Long and Samedy Kuoch struck a heads-up deal that saw them each take home $2,226. Ultimately Long was named the champ.

Bowman Takes Down Two

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Keith Bowman
Keith Bowman

Keith Bowman took down two pots, both in heads-up hands against Frank Azevedo.

On the first hand, Azevedo bet 1,200 on the button on a flop of {10-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. A player in the small blind called, and Bowman raised to 2,500. Azevedo called and the small blind folded.

The turn came the {4-Spades}, Bowman bet 3,000 and Azevedo called. Bowman kept up the aggression on the {7-Clubs}, putting out a bet for 7,000 and getting the fold.

Two hands later, Azevedo bet 3,500 from the hijack on the river, with the board showing {10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Bowman made the call from the button, showing {4-Hearts}{3-Spades} against Azevedo's attempted bluff with {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.
