Fifield Uses His One Time

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Richard Fifield
Richard Fifield

Richard Fifield won his seat into the $1,650 Main Event by winning a $260 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed tournament earlier this week at the Thunder Valley Poker Room. As of Level 5 in Day 1b action, Fifield is still running good.

Fifield, on the big blind, and an opponent on the hijack arrived at the turn on a {3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} board. Fifield bet 6,400, and the opponent shoved. A call would put Fifield at risk, and Fifield thought it over for a bit before committing the rest of his chips.

Richard Fifield: {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
Hijack: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Fifield saw that he was in trouble against the hijack's straight. "One time," pronounced Fifield, asking for a seven.

The seven indeed came in, as the river {7-Clubs} gave Fifield the full boat.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, and both players checked.

Ferketa bet 15,000 on the {2-Hearts}, and Miller went into the take for a couple of minutes before making the fold.

One of the bigger pots of the day unfolded in the early minutes of Level 2, with John Duckworth taking in upwards of 20,000 chips.

Duckworth was in the small blind against an opponent in the cutoff, and both players checked through on the river with the board showing {2-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{j-Spades}{a-Hearts}. Duckworth's {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} was good enough to take it down.

Thunder Valley Poker Room

Welcome to PokerNews coverage of Day 1b of the $1,650 Ante Up World Championship. Today’s field will play through the second of two Day 1 flights, with the combined surviving players from Day 1a and Day 1b returning Sunday for the Day 2. Sunday’s field will play down to a winner in this $500,000 guaranteed event, and the final names to be added to that field will be decided today.

Day 1a saw 153 entries and 20 players make it through to Day 2, and those numbers are expected to be even bigger for Day 1b.
More than 40 seats were awarded in a Friday night satellite tournament, and the Thunder Valley Poker Room will almost certainly be buzzing with action throughout the day as the Ante Up World Champion is determined.

Players will play through 40-minute levels, with a 10-minute break after every three levels and a 70-minute dinner break after Level 9. Just like Day 1a, today’s flight will play all the way down to the money, with one in every eight players qualifying for the money. Late registration ends at the end of the dinner break, so at that time the number of players to play down to will be decided.

Players get 40,000 starting chips and one re-entry, will Level starting at blinds of 100/100. A big blind ante will go into effect at the beginning of Level 2.
