Day 1b of the Ante Up Poker Tour Jamul Casino $550 Main Event has come to a close. A total of 114 entries came through the Jamul Casino Poker Room, near San Diego, California, for the second of two Day 1 flights.

At the end of the night it was 23 players making through to Day 2, with Tim Costello and Adrian Lopez in a tie for the biggest Day 1b stack, with both ending the flight at 315,000 chips. Right behind on the chip leaderboard are Tavish Margers (301,000) and Vladimir Medvinsky (269,000).

After a wild day of action and rapid eliminations on Day 1a, the pace of play on Day 1b was a little more relaxed. There was plenty of juicy action to be seen, still, and through the two Day 1 flights a total of 34 players will advance to Day 2, which begins Sunday at noon.

Day 1a saw 12 players advance, and those 12 will join the 23 Day 2 survivors for the final day. Tailong Qiao (142,000) bagged both flights, and will bring the bigger of his two bags into Day 2.The tournament will play down to a winner Sunday, with the champion taking home the first place prize of $27,180.

A total of 22 players will make the money Sunday, with the 22nd place finisher taking home the min cash of $959. The final four tables will come back and resume play at Level 15, with the blinds at 3000/6000/6000.

The stack distribution throughout the room stayed relatively even throughout the day, with Costello and Lopez emerging with big stacks at the end of the night. Both will be among the overall chip leaders when Day 2 begins, but both will be looking up at the overall chip leader, Scott Lewis, who bagged 355,000 on Day 1a.

Lebhar Ousts Podnieks

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
David Lebhar
David Lebhar

Eric Podnieks opened to 18,000 from the button, with just 31,500 behind. The action folded to David Lebhar, who contemplated his move from the big blind.

"Why didn't you just go all in?" asked Lebhar. After a few moments, Lebhar made the call.

Eric Podnieks: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
David Lebhar: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Board: {j-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

Podnieks was anguished when he saw the situation, his ace-ten dominated by Lebhar's ace-queen. The runout brought no help, and Podniek's Day 1b journey came to an end.

Big Pot for "Big Y"

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 10,000 ante
Young Hilliard
Young Hilliard

On the last hand before the break, Edward Spaulding opened to 2,500, and got four callers.

The action checked to Spaulding on the {k-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop, and Spaulding bet 9,500. Only Young Hilliard, in the cutoff, called.

With the pot already over 30,000, both players checked the {3-Clubs} turn. Spaulding put out 6,000, less than one-fifth pot, on the {10-Diamonds} river.

"You made a good call earlier," said Spaulding to Young. It's unknown what happened on the previous hand Spaulding was referring to, but in this hand Hilliard raised to 15,000. Spaulding called, but his {k-Spades}{j-Spades} was no good against Hilliard's {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for the nut flush.

Medvinsky Making Big Moves

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Vladimir Medvinsky
Vladimir Medvinsky

Vladimir Medvinsky is among the first of the Day 1b players to hit the 100k chip mark, and he added to that stack in a recent pot.

In what appeared to be a three-bet pot preflop, with about 7,500 in the middle, Medvinsky bet 6,000 from the small blind into an under the gun opponent, with the flop showing {2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}. The opponent folded, and Medvinsky continues to climb.

Lawn's Pocket Aces Pay Off

Level 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Brad Lawn
Brad Lawn

Facing a trio of limps, Brad Lawn raised to 2,500 from the small blind. The big blind called, as well as players in middle position and the cutoff.

Lawn led out for 5,000 on a {4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, and the big blind called. The player in the cutoff went all in for around 28,000, and Lawn called. The big blind folded, and the two remaining players turned over their cards.

Cutoff: {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Brad Lawn: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

The cutoff's pair plus open-ended straight draw had hope against Lawn's aces, but no help came for the underdog on the turn {k-Spades} and river {j-Diamonds}.

Ho Gets the Straight Flush Paid Off

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Bryan Ho
Bryan Ho

With a massive pot accumulated in three-way action, Bryan Ho bet 15,000 on the river of a {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} board, from the big blind.

Robert Fortuno, in early position, put in the chips for a call, while a player in late position folded.

Ho showed the absolute nuts, turning over {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the straight flush. Fortuno mucked, and another player at the table asked if this hand will make it into the PokerNews blog, which it indeed will.

Richard Lanes
Richard Lanes

Mark Feinberg and Richard Lanes are both back in the field for Day 1b, after staying through most of the Day 1a flight but not quite making it through.

The two players engaged in a big early pot, with about 20,000 already in the middle by the river on a {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board. Feinberg checked from middle position, and Lanes bet 10,000 from the cutoff.

Feinberg thought it over for awhile, eventually deciding to fold.
