Ante Up Poker Tour to Visit Arizona's Wild Horse Pass November 11-16

Level 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Wild Horse Pass
Wild Horse Pass

The Ante Up Poker Tour (AUPT) has visited Arizona’s Gila River Hotels & Casinos – Vee Quiva, and now they’re headed to its sister property. From November 11-16, Wild Horse Pass will host its first AUPT stop.

“As this is our first tournament series at Wild Horse Pass, everyone here is extremely excited to host this event. We’ve put a lot of thought into creating this series because we want to keep true to what our room provides, as well as showcase the talents of our experienced dealers,” said poker room manager Susan Pendarvis.

She continued: “In creating the tournament series, we wanted to put together a structure that many tournament players desire. Here at Gila River Hotels & Casinos, we pride ourselves on listening to our players, and our players wanted more chips, more play, and longer levels. I feel that we meet all those goals with this tournament.”

The Ante Up Winter Poker Classic series consists of three events, culminating with a two-flight $400 buy-in Main Event with a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. PokerNews will be on hand to live report the action from that tournament. Also, the winner of the Main Event will appear on the cover of Ante Up Magazine and get an entry in the 2020 Ante Up World Championship Main Event.

“For the Main Event, players start with 20,000 chips with 30-minute blind levels throughout the tournament and we have every level possible in the structure. We are also providing the big blind ante as well,” Pendarvis continued. “We wanted to keep the tournament at a price point that would be manageable for our everyday tournament players as well as a price point where the overlay was very enticing to more seasoned players to come and play. Our poker room is warm and friendly, and we look forward to highlighting what we have to offer at Wild Horse Pass.”

Lawn's Pocket Aces Pay Off

Level 5 : 300/600, 600 ante
Brad Lawn
Brad Lawn

Facing a trio of limps, Brad Lawn raised to 2,500 from the small blind. The big blind called, as well as players in middle position and the cutoff.

Lawn led out for 5,000 on a {4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, and the big blind called. The player in the cutoff went all in for around 28,000, and Lawn called. The big blind folded, and the two remaining players turned over their cards.

Cutoff: {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Brad Lawn: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

The cutoff's pair plus open-ended straight draw had hope against Lawn's aces, but no help came for the underdog on the turn {k-Spades} and river {j-Diamonds}.

Low Roller Takes Chips From Lawn

Level 5 : 300/600, 600 ante

One hand after bringing in a massive pot with pocket aces, Brad Lawn lost a few of his newly won chips to a player identifying himself as "Low Roller", or LR.

With the board reading {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs}{a-Spades}{3-Spades}, the man known as Low Roller put in a bet for 6,40o from the cutoff, and Lawn called. Lawn saw that his opponent had the nut flush with {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}, and his stack took a bit of a hit,

Medvinsky Making Big Moves

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Vladimir Medvinsky
Vladimir Medvinsky

Vladimir Medvinsky is among the first of the Day 1b players to hit the 100k chip mark, and he added to that stack in a recent pot.

In what appeared to be a three-bet pot preflop, with about 7,500 in the middle, Medvinsky bet 6,000 from the small blind into an under the gun opponent, with the flop showing {2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}. The opponent folded, and Medvinsky continues to climb.

Ace-Eight All Around

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Glenn Poole opened to 1,800 in early position, and got calls from both Michael Souza and Afzal Atta in the blinds.

All three players checked the {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop. Souza bet 1,200 on the {j-Spades} turn, Atta called and Poole folded.

Both remaining players checked the {5-Hearts} river, and Souza showed {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, while Atta turned over {a-Spades}{8-Spades}.

"You guys got me off ace-eight!" said Poole as Souza and Atta chopped up the pot, with Poole later saying he had {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}.

Atta Adds Chips

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

With nearly 20,000 already in the pot on a {3-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades} board, a player on the big blind checked, and Afzal Atta checked back from the button.

The river brought the {5-Diamonds}, the big blind checked, and Atta bet 7,300, getting the fold.
