Raymer Busto

Greg Raymer - Eliminated
Greg Raymer - Eliminated
Jeff Dunbar opened with a raise, and Greg Raymer moved all in for about 13,000 total. Dunbar thought for a moment before making the call, putting the World Champ at risk of elimination.

Raymer: {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades}
Dunbar: {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}

Thoroughly dominated, Raymer needed a lot of help to stay alive. The board, however, came out {3-Hearts} {4-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {K-Diamonds}, holding Dunbar's overpair and sending Raymer packing.

After the loss, Raymer stood up and cheerfully chatted up the table and his opponent for several minutes while he finished his drink. He ran back through the hand, explaining what his shove range was and jesting in a good-natured way with his eliminator.

"The bad thing is now you're going to get sucked out on at some point in a bigger hand in a bigger tournament," he said. "Like the bubble of the Main Event."

The table shared a chuckle and Raymer finally bid them farewell. Dunbar, meanwhile, is alive and kicking, having vaulted up to about 55,000 in chips.

Almost Done

As the clock ticks close to zero, the staff has just announced that we will play four more hands before we complete play for Day 1a.

Dunbar Picks Off Sabat Too

We join the action on the flop in another pot involving Jeff Dunbar. The flop reads {2-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {7-Spades} and there's three-way action. Dunbar leads out with a bet of 1,300. The man next to act calls, and Edward Sabat moves all in for an additional 5,425. Dunbar re-raises, prompting the third man to duck out of the way.

"Do you at least have deuce-four?" asked Sabat.

Sure enough, Dunbar opened up his {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. Seemingly glad that he wasn't up against a bigger hand, Sabat tabled his {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts}, and had some catching up to do. The turn and river came {J-Hearts} and {6-Spades} respectively though, and Sabat follows Raymer out the door, also at the hands of Jeff Dunbar.

Day 1A Concludes

Day 1A of New Zealand's largest poker tournament has concluded. For some, it's been a great ride, but none greater than Nathanael Ren Hao Seet. Seet has amassed over 75,000 chips and finished the day as the clear chip leader.

Just moments before the day's end, two big threats to the field, Edward Sabat and Greg Raymer, were eliminated. Tony Hachem is still alive and healthy. He'll be the first to tell you how he was once down to 3,000 chips and ended up with 27,600. Celina Lin and Alexander Fitzgerald both made it through the day as well.

Tomorrow will be a day off for all the remaining players in the field, as the flight of Day 1B will take to the felt in hopes of joining the 62 players left from today on Saturday at noon.

Notables such as Joe Hachem, Eric Assadourian (fresh off his win in the Omaha prelim event), Grant Levy, Paul Khoury, and Lee Nelson are all slated to be in the field for tomorrow. We'll see you all back here at 12:00 PM local time.
