Do Doubles Through Steicke

David Steicke opened with a raise to 2,400 before Quinn Do raised it up to 7,800 from the cutoff. The blinds folded and Steicke made the call.

The flop landed {10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Steicke fired out 20,000, enough to put Do to a decision for all of his chips. He made the call and tabled {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for an overpair as Steicke showed complete air with his {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

The turn and river were both aces and Do doubles to 57,000, and Steicke comes back to the pack.

Steicke Bets the Whole Way

Win some, lose some. Lose some, win some. David Steicke has had a wild first half-hour of play. Eric Assadourian, having already bluffed Steicke out of one pot, opened for 2,400 and was called by Matt Kay (in position) and Steicke (in the big blind). On a flop of {7-Clubs} {K-Spades} {6-Clubs}, Steicke made a one-third pot bet of 2,400. Only Kay called.

The turn was another small card, the {4-Spades}. Steicke made the price of the river card 5,000 chips and again Kay paid it. On the river {4-Diamonds} Steicke bet 7,500. Kay called but couldn't beat Steicke's {K-Clubs} {8-Clubs} for two pair, kings and fours.

Steicke is back up to 132,000.

Everybody Wing Cheong Tonight

Chong Wing Cheong
Chong Wing Cheong
We wonder if Van Marcus likes 80s music. He recently eliminated Chong Wing Cheong, all in preflop. Cheong had the better hand with {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}, but Marcus had two overcards with {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}. It was ace on the flop, ace on the river, and no queen in-between for Marcus. He has eliminated Cheong and chipped up to 55,000 simultaneously.

The Gospel According to David

David Steicke
David Steicke
David Steicke:

"There was a period where I didn't see pocket aces for months, so I started praying for them.

"Then one day I was playing online and got them three times and they got cracked all three times.

"I then stopped praying for them."

Julian Powell Next Short Stack to Double Up

The short stacks are doing a remarkable job of hanging around so far this afternoon. Julian Powell is the latest player to double up. He took a limped pot in a battle of the blinds against Andrew Pantling. Both players checked the {8-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} flop. When the turn came {6-Clubs}, Pantling checked again, bringing a bet of 1,200 from Powell that Pantling called.

The river was the {J-Spades}. Pantling checked one more time to Powell, who shoved all in for 10,600. When Pantling called, Powell confidently tabled {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} for turned trips and a winner. He now has 25,000 chips.

Terrence Chan Eliminated

Now only one Chan left in the field
Now only one Chan left in the field
Terrence Chan got his chips in bad, and they didn't come back out. He led out for 3,200 on a flop of {J-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}. When Yury Kerzhapkin moved all in, Chan made the call for his tournament life.

Chan: {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}
Kerzhapkin: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}

After doubling up with rockets earlier, Chan turned around and ran straight into them. He needed a miracle two-outer, but the turn and the river were the {9-Clubs} and the {K-Diamonds}. He's out.

The Steicke Secret: "They're Only Chips!"

David Steicke and Eric Assadourian
David Steicke and Eric Assadourian
It's turning into the David Steicke show here, but when someone is playing nearly every hand, aggressively, with multiple opponents, in big pots, it's hard to look elsewhere when the other tables are sitting back and enjoying the slow structure of this tournament.

In a recent pot David Steicke opened with a raise to 2,400 from the cutoff, with Eric Assadourian calling on the button, and Quinn Do and Nam Le out of the blinds.

They saw a flop of {J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{J-Spades} and it was checked to Steicke who fired a 3,600 continuation bet into his three opponents. Assadourian was the lone caller.

The turn brought the {2-Clubs} and Steicke fired 7,200. "You don't get scared that I called you?" quizzed Assadourian. "Alright nice hand," he said as he folded his hand.

"They're only chips!" quipped Steicke as he extended his lead.

Matt Kay Eliminated

Matt Kay eliminated
Matt Kay eliminated
The short stacks continue to make moves here on Day 2 of the High Rollers Event. Matt Kay opened from the button for 2,500. Xuan Nguyen, sitting in the small blind, popped Kay to 8,500. When action folded back to Kay, he moved all in and Nguyen, just barely covering Kay, called.

Kay: {A-?} {9-?}
Nguyen: {8-Spades} {8-Hearts}

It must be somewhat disappointing to survive through almost seven levels just to have all your chips in the middle on a flip. It's probably more disappointing when your opponent flops a set, {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Spades}, and you can't come up with the necessary running cards to overtake him when the turn and river come {2-Spades} {5-Clubs}.

Kay was eliminated, and Nguyen has moved up to 50,000.
