Another Champ on the Ropes

2008 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate
2008 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate
Things haven't gone well for the world champions in Sydney. Peter Eastgate is the latest one to reel from a hit to his stack. It was a five-way pot that had been raised to 900 preflop by an early-position player. Eastgate was in the cutoff. On a flop of {2-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}, the preflop raiser made it 5,000 to go. Only Eastgate called.

On the turn {6-Diamonds}, the early-position player went all in. Eastgate called with an overpair of jacks, but he was up against a bigger overpair of kings. There was no help for Eastgate when the river fell {6-Clubs}. He's down to about 9,000 in chips.

Flourentzoo Out-Kicked

On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} Panayotis Flourentzoo led out for 875 from the small blind. The player on the button bumped it up to 2,000 and Flourentzoo made the call.

A repeat {9-Clubs} hit the turn and against Flourentzoo decides to lead with a bet of 3,000. The button player this time flat-called.

The river was the {4-Spades} and Flourentzoo fired out a healthy bet of 10,000. The button then moved all in for his last 12,000 chips and Flourentzoo made the call with {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for trip nines. However it wasn't good enough as his opponent flipped {A-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a better kicker. Flourentzoo is down to his last 9,000 chips.

Milinkovic Runs into Another Set

Brad Milinkovic was trying to become the third member of the Milinkovic family to make it through to Day 2, but that's not going to happen. He moved his last 11,500 into the middle on a flop of {9-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} holding {A-?}{K-?} in his hand. Unfortunately for Milinkovic, he ran into another set -- this a set of nines made with {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs}. The board ran out {7-Hearts} {K-Spades}, but Milinkovic's two pair were not good enough. He's out.

Honeybone Busted by Quads

James Honeybone eliminated

James Honeybone raised it up from late position and Patrick Carron made the call in the big blind.

The flop was {Q-?}{Q-?}{5-?} and Carron check-raised the bet from Honeybone, before Honeybone moved all in over the top. Carron made the call and tabled {Q-?}{9-?} for trips, as Honeybone revealed just {J-?}{5-?}.

Another {Q-?} on the turn gave Carron quads, and a {9-?} on the river gave Carron a comprehensive victory in the hand. Honeybone is out and Carron is now up to over 30,000 chips.

Eastgate Stumbles Again

Things are going from bad to worse for Peter Eastgate. In a five-way limped pot, Eastgate bet 1,000 on the {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs} flop. Shane Moran was the only caller.

Both players checked the {4-Clubs} turn. On the {J-Spades} river, Eastgate led out for 2,000. Moran thought things over and then called behind. Eastgate showed {9-?} {10-?} for a pair of nines; Moran had rivered him with {J-?} {5-?} for two pair.

Eastgate has just 6,000 chips left. Moran's sitting pretty on 65,000.

Huang Eliminated

Bryan Huang
Bryan Huang
Bryan Huang has cashed on multiple occasions on the APPT circuit this year including a third-place finish in Macau, but he was unable to add another cash to his resume after recently being eliminated.

Huang committed his short stack with {K-Spades}{10-Spades} but ran into an opponent holding {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The board of {4-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} didn't help Huang and he was sent to the rail.

Eastgate Hits the Felt

Eastgate Eliminated
Peter Eastgate is the first of the three World Series of Poker Main Event champions in today's field to hit the felt. He was all in preflop for his last 4,800 with {A-Hearts} {8-Spades} and found himself up against Jarred Grimshaw's {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. Eastgate managed to pair up on the flop, {Q-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}, but did not improve from there. The turn and river were {4-Spades} and {J-Spades}. Eastgate left the tournament area to scattered applause.
