Grigg Grigg Everywhere

Tom Grigg seems to be in every pot at the moment, with Grigg again getting amongst the action for the third time in only four hands.

Play was started by Grigg in middle position where he would open to 16,500. Xiao Dong Xia made the call from the hijack and Marcel Schreiner called from the button.

The flop tabled {4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Grigg continued his aggression, leading for 16,500. Dong Xia would make the call and Schreiner made threw his cards into the muck as the {5-Clubs} landed on the turn. Grigg would finally slow down, checking to Dong Xia as h. would fir out 30,000. Grigg snap-folded and sent the pot to Dong Xia

Dong Down Early

Jonathan Karamalikis is the short-stack at the moment, with Karamlikis losing a hefty amount of his chips as this hand played out.

Play was started to by Daniel Laidlaw on the button, where he would raise it up to 10,000. Karamalikis was in the small blind and he would three-bet to 22,500. A call from Laidlaw would see a {4-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Spades} flop be dealt.

Karamalikis continued his betting, throwing out 16,000. Laidlaw then moved all-in for around 200,000 having Karamalikis well-covered. A snap fold from Karamalikis would see the pot go to Laidlaw as Karamalikis takes the dent to his stack.

Grigg Getting It In

Grigg can't seem to slow down at the 2011 APPT Queenstown Main Event, with his stack on a roller coaster ride from as early as the first few hands.

Carl Knox started the action with a raise to 10,500 from the button. Grigg was in the small blind and he three-bet to 23,500. Play was sent back to Knox and he four-bet to 54,500. Grigg then decided to five-bet all-in and Knox snap-folded and sent the pot to Grigg.

Jonathan Karamalikis Eliminated in 9th Place (NZD$10,280)

Jonathan Karamalikis - 9th place
Jonathan Karamalikis - 9th place

On the 18th hand of the 2011 APPT Queenstown Main Event final table we have lost our first player, with Jonathan Karamalikis the person heading to the rail in 9th place.

Karamalikis was UTG +1 when he woke up with {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} and with his relatively short-stack he decided to shove all-in for around 80,000 over the top of an 11,000 chip open from Daniel Laidlaw. The play was sent flying back around to Laidlaw and Karamalikis was unlucky to have him wake up with {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} as Laidlaw snapped Karamlikis off.

The board ran out with no changes to the hand, the {7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs} sending the 2010 APPT Sydney Grand Final Champion out the door and adding NZD$10,280 to his almost $1,200,000 in live tournament earnings.

Schreiner Can't Be Stopped

Marcel Schreiner can't seem to put a foot wrong as his stack continues to get ever-larger.

Play started with an open to 12,500 from Matt Yates in late position and Schreiner would make the lone call from the small blind.

The {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} on the flop would see Schreiner check to Yates who led for 21,500. A call from Schreiner and the {k-Clubs} would hit the turn. Schreiner again opted to check-call, this time a bet of 33,500 from Yates.

Another king fell on the river, with the {k-Spades} leaving four spades on the board. Schreiner would again check and this time Laidlaw woud slow down, also checking.

Laidlaw turned over {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} for three of a kind, while Schreiner's {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} would give Schreiner the spade and enough to take down the pot.

Two Not Good

Play started with a raise to 16,000 from an under the gun Matt Yates. Tom Grigg made the call in the big blind and the two players would watch as the {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop was dealt. When both player checked, the {10-Hearts} would hit the turn. Grigg would lead for 16,000 and Yates would raise it up to 32,000.

Grigg made the call as the {6-Diamonds} laned on the river. This time both players would check.

"I have a two," said Grigg to Yates.

"A ten," replied Yates as he tabled his cards and sent Grigg's hand into the muck.

Laidlaw, Not Yates

"I would have got it in against you but not him," Tom Grigg said to Daniel Laidlaw as Matt Yates took down this nice pot without going to a flop.

The action was started by Laidlaw in middle position and he raised it to 13,000. Carl Knox then made the call before Grigg three-bet to 31,500 from the hijack seat. Yates would then four-bet to 85,500. The play was back on Laidlaw and he asked Grigg how much he started the hand with before folding. With Knox out of the way, it would be on Grigg and he would decide to send his cards into the muck as Yates took down the pot.

Yates Cracks The Million As Schreiner Falters

Matt Yates
Matt Yates

The biggest hand of the tournament has just taken place with Marcel Schreiner making a huge misstep to see his stack fall dramatically.

The action was started by Schreiner in middle position where he opened to 12,500. Play was then on Matt Yates on the button and he three-bet to 19,500. Schreiner then four-bet to 65,000 whereby Yates popped it to 116,00 with the five-bet.

The biggest pot of the day was already building and it was about to get bigger as Schreiner moved all-in for his monster 660,000 remaining chips. Yates looked a little pained but gave a bit of a shrug and made the call turning over {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. The whole table was then shocked to see Schreiner turn over {9-Spades}{8-Spades}, with the worry of aces gone for Yates.

The board would run out {9-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs} with barely a sweat by the turn for Schreiner, he took the massive hit to his stack and Yates becomes the first millionaire at the table.
