Marcel Schreiner has just seen his stack increase exponentially, as the APPT Queenstown Main Event has seen another elimination.
The action started with an under the gun raise from Matt Yates, whereby action flew around to Schreiner in middle position and he three-bet to 23,600. Ben Paurini then moved all-in freom the small blind and put his tournament life on the line as Schreiner made the call.
The of Schreiner would prove too good against the of Paurini when the board bricked out .
Jonathan Karamalikis knows what it takes to win an event on the APPT, but he will need do some work if he is going to be crowned the winner of Queenstown.
The action was folded to Karamalikis on the button and he raised to 8,000. Matt Yates called from the big blind and the flop would be dealt. Yates then check-raised a bet of 7,000 from Karamalikis, making it 18,500 to see a turn. Karamalikis made the call and the players watched as the was dealt on the turn. This time Yates would lead, throwing out 27,000. Karamalikis then amped up the aggression and popped it to 60,000.
A call from Yates would see the hit the river and Yates would lead with an all-in shove. Karamalikis then snap-folded and sent the nice pot to Yates.
There was a slew of aggression over at Tom Grigg's table, with the following hand resulting in the elimination of Gavin Vickers.
The action started when Hugh Cohen opened the pot to 8,500 from under the gun and received calls from Carl Knox on the button and Tom Grigg from the small blind. It was at this point that Gavin Vickers moved all-in from the big blind, with his short-stack resulting in only a 2,000 chip raise. All the players made the call and Vickers would have to watch the hand play out while his tournament life was on the line.
As the board was dealt out the three players in the hand would fire out bets and calls over the place and when all was said in the done Grigg would go to showdown with Cohen.
The of Grigg would be too good for the of Cohen, while Vickers hand also went into the muck, sending him home in 12th place for a NZD$7,720 score.
Jackson Zheng was looking primed to make it two APPT final tables in only two events after making the final nine of the Melbourne event only a few weeks ago. Matt Yates was the player who got in the way of making the impressive back-to-back final tables a reality.
The action started with Jackson Zheng opening to 10,000 from under the gun and receiving a call from Yates in the small blind.
The flop would see Yates check-call a bet of 8,500 from Zheng as the landed on the turn. A check from Yates would prompt Zheng to bet 24,000 at which point Yates moved all-in and Zheng snap-called.
Zheng tabled his for a turned two-pair while Yates held with just the one pair but a chance at making the straight.
"Jack!" Cried Zheng, jokingly calling for his own elimination.
Zheng may have spoke too soon as the landed on the river and sent Zheng home in 10th place with NZD$7,720 to show for it, while Yates skyrockets up the chipleader board.
And with that ladies and gentlemen, we have our final table. Stay tuned for the official final table chip counts and the Day 3 wrap!
After only three and a half hours of play on Day 3 at the PokerStars.netAPPT Queenstown Main Event we have reached our final table!
The day started with many skilled and recognizable players taking to the felt and when all was said and done the final nine wouldn’t disappoint with the likes of young Australian stars, Jonathan Karamalikis, Hugh Cohen and Tom Grigg all present at the final table.
It is remarkable to note that both Grigg and Karamalikis made it to final tables at events at the 2010 APPT, with Karamalikis eventually taking down the Sydney Grand Final victory, while Grigg would go on to finish 2nd at the 2010 APPT Auckland event.
We would be amiss not to mention that Cohen would make for an interesting victor if he manages to take down this event, with his brother Julian having won the PokerStars.net ANZPT event in Queenstown last year.
Going into the final table we have Germany’s Marcel Schreiner heading the chipcounts after starting the day with the lead, while Matt Yates managed to cruise his way to a monster stack after starting the day with an average stack.
