Day 1a Started

Seoul Poker

Welcome back to Season 5 of the 2012 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour. The fourth stop this season takes us back to Seoul, South Korea, which brings back memories of Seasons 1 and 2. In Seasons 3 and 4, the APPT did not have a stop in Seoul, but excitement is abound for the festivities this year.

The last event held here on the APPT attracted 166 players in 2008 and Yoshihiro Tasaka walked away with the title and $128,199. This year the event is capped at 250 total entrants and with two starting days, that number should be very close to being hit, if not surpassed. Tournament Director Danny McDonagh already told us that he expects a packed house of 140 players here on Day 1a.

Some of the notables expected to be in attendance for the event include Team PokerStars Pros Bryan Huang, Celina Lin and Raymond Wu. Terrence Chan and Casey Kastle are also here and planning on playing Day 1a.

The cards will be in the air at 12:15 local time, so be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for all the live coverage from APPT Seoul.

One Gone Already

We didn't catch the action, simply because we hadn't even left the media desk yet, but we heard a call from a dealer saying, "lost one!"

Short day for someone.

Win One, Lose One Early for Guzzardi

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Australian Michael Guzzardi is here playing on Day 1a in Seoul and we just witnessed a couple early hands he was involved in.

On the first hand, Guzzardi was in a three-bet pot on the {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop with about 1,700 chips in the middle. After his opponent checked, Guzzardi bet 1,150. His opponent took a minute and then check-raised to 2,900. Guzzardi gave it up and saw the pot pushed his opponent's way.

Shortly thereafter, Guzzardi was faced with a bet of 2,050 on the board of {Q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. After thinking things through, Guzzardi made the call. His opponent announced two pair, but Guzzardi tabled the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a flush to win the pot.

Early Building Blocks For The Kastle

Casey Kastle has already built a nice little buffer to his starting stack and we managed to catch the hand which added a fair chunk of chips to his pile.

By the time we arrived at the table, the board was showing {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and the player directly to Kastle's right was set to act. He checked and Kastle, from the button, bet 1,000. There was over 2,000 already in the pot and at this point Kastle's opponent check-raised to 2,400. Kastle instantly called and the {7-Hearts} completed the board.

This time Kastle's opponent would opt to lead out, throwing 3,200 in chips onto the felt. Kastle casually flicked a 5,000-denomination chip into the middle, making the call.

Kastle tabled his {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, enough to send his opponent's {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} into the muck.

Aussie Millions Champ Flushes Opponent's Top Set

The 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Oliver Speidel just picked up a nice pot to move to 34,000 in chips. He was involved in a three-bet pot with three players going to the flop for 800 each. After the {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades} fell, the first player checked and then the woman who had three-bet preflop bet 1,500. Speidel called and the other player folded.

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {9-Spades} land on the river. The woman fired a bet of 2,000 into Speidel. The Aussie Millions champ raised to 10,000 and had to endure a long tank from his opponent before she finally called. The call was a good thing for Speidel as he held the {A-Spades}{K-Spades} for the nuts. His opponent showed the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for top set.
