Day 4 Started

Jim Collopy Leads The Final Table

And then there were nine. After four days of poker here at the Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino, 158 players have been whittled down to our final table at the Pokerstars.net APPT Main Event in Cebu, Philippines. And what a diverse final table it is. We have representatives from the USA, Korea, Finland, Sweden, Germany, and Canada here today. Who will come out on top?

Leading the way in both chips and notability is Jim Collopy. The 24 year old poker pro has won millions online, and has plenty of live success to his name as well. In 2013 alone, Collopy has a 3rd place at the Aussie Millions, and a bracelet win at the recent WSOP Asia-Pacific under his belt. He comes into today with the chip lead with 605,000, and is hoping to secure his second major tournament title in as many months.

After Collopy, we have a slew of virtual unknowns rounding out our final table. The player in best position to challenge Collopy is 27 year old Bawod Hyunshik Yun, who comes into today with 528,000. Yun won a huge race late yesterday, when his pocket jacks bested the Ace-King of Andrew Nguyen.

Not far behind is Daniel Spence, who entered yesterday as the chip leader. He stuck toward the top throughout the day, and will come into today with 450,000. Below you can see the rest of the players and their stacks, and also see where they will be sitting at the final table.

Collopy Extends His Lead

The action folded around to Jim Collopy on the small blind, who opened to 16,000. Andrew Nguyen was on the big blind, and made the call, as both players saw the flop come {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Collopy threw out a continuation of 16,000 which was called, as the turn fell the {2-Spades}. This time Collopy opted to check, as Nguyen placed out 35,000 in chips. Collopy sat motionless for a minute, before raising to 85,000, which was called quickly, as the {4-Hearts} completed the board.

Collopy thought for a moment, before moving all-in, as Nguyen mucked his cards.

Well it was a quick day for one of our youngest players here as Andrew Nguyen was just eliminated in ninth place. Action started with Jae Kyung Sim raising to 16,000 from under the gun. he got a slew of calls from Anthony Wright, Daniel Spence, and Magnus Karlsson, and it got to Andrew Nguyen in the small blind.

He moved all in for his last 190,000, and it was back to Sim. He tanked for about two minutes, before sliding in chips for the call. Everyone got out of the way, and when the cards were tabled, Nguyen saw he was in a world of hurt.

Nguyen: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Sim: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Nguyen was looking for a queen, but it never came, as the board ran down {5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. After that pot, Sim jumped up to second in chips with 610,000, while Nguyen will have to settle for just over 350,000 Philippine Pesos.

Michael Allmrodt Eliminated in 8th Place (PHP 458,000)

Michael Allmrodt could not wait any longer, moving all in for his remaining 28,000 from under the gun. Daniel Spence was to his immediate left and made the call, as did Jae Kyung Sim on the button, before all three saw the flop come {3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. With Allmrodt all-in, the other two checked it down as it ran out {7-Spades} and {9-Clubs}, before tabling their cards.

Allmrodt showed {K-Spades}{6-Spades} for king-high, before Spence tabled his {4-Spades}{3-Spades} for bottom pair. Sim turned his cards over last, and his {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades} made top-pair, which was good enough to eliminate his second opponent from the final table.

Timo Kohijoki Eliminated in 7th Place (PHP 564,000)

Timo Kohijoki- 7th Place
Timo Kohijoki- 7th Place

It seems like Jae Kyung Sim had a pretty simple plan coming into today: eliminate every player at the table. Well he's three for three so far, as he's just played executioner again, knocking Timo Kohijoki out in 7th place.

Kohijoki open shoved for his last 88,000, and Sim was next to act. Once he got the count, he made the call, and everyone else got out of the way.

Sim: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Kohijoki: {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The flop brought no help for Kohikoki, coming {2-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. The {9-Clubs} on the turn gave Kohijoki straight draw outs, as a queen would now get it done for him. But the river brought the {2-Diamonds}.

After that hand, Sim is now our chip leader, sitting on 760,000.

Spence on the Move

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The tabled folded around to Bawod Hyunshik Yun in the hijack, who opened to 16,000. Daniel Spence made the call from the button, as the flop came down {9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}.

Yun continued with a bet of 17,000, before quickly being met with a raise to 44,000 from Spence, which he called. The {A-Spades} fell on the turn, and Yun opted to check. Spence quickly reached for his chips, counted out a stack, and slid out 54,000 into the middle. Yun didn't want any part of it, as he mucked his cards.
