Tae Hoon Han Leads Final 11 Players Before Day 3 of 2019 PokerStars APPT Jeju Main Event

Level 23 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Day 2 of the 2019 PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Jeju Main Event is in the books, after ten levels of play. After bagging their chips, there was only one player atop the leaderboard, and this was New Zealand's Tae Hoon Han with 2,600,000 in chips.

Han was dominating throughout the whole day, starting with the overall chip lead from Day 1a, and multiplying it more than ten times until the end of Day 2. It looked like he always had the best hand between his opponents, or he was getting them to fold when he need to. There were not many pots that he lost, and the biggest one he won was at the same time the biggest pot of the tournament.

Tae Hoon Han was holding ace-ten in an ace-ten-seven flop, while his opponent was Zongyan Jiang with ace-seven. All the chips went in the middle on the turn, and Han's two pair held until the river, for a 1.4 million chip-pot that sent him to the top of the counts.

The action of the day started with 97 players taking their seats and more than half of them would have to leave empty-handed, as 41 was about to get paid, according to the payout structure. The minimum payout was ₩4,345,000 (~$3,765) and it was a lost flip that secured a payout for all remaining players. The unlucky player was Xiaofeng Jiang who saw his tens losing by his opponent's ace-king when a king hit the turn.

The Bubble Hand with Xiaofeng Jiang on the Left

As it always happens in those kind of situations, when the bubble burst, a flurry of eliminations just started. In just ten minutes five players busted, and among them was 2019 PokerStars APPT National winner, Liang Song, in 37th place for the minimum payout.

Among the notables that eliminated in the money, and before the dinner break were 2010 WSOP bracelet winner and 2019 APPT Jeju High Roller 4th place finisher, Shawn Busse.

After the dinner break, 24 players returned to their seats, for the last three tables of the Main Event, and this is when Tae Hoon Han won the above described huge pot. One of the unlucky players was Japan's Yuhei Sanada who saw his jacks cracked by ace-jack when four spades appeared the board, and his opponent was holding the jack of spades.

This elimination left the field with two tables, and it was when Huidong Gu found a perfect spot to catapult his stack into a one spot before the top of the counts chip-stack. He picked up kings and went all in versus two opponents, with ace-king and eights, respectively. He was covering both and he managed to fade all unwanted cards on the board to reach 1.5 million chips.

The final eleven players will return tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. local time (GMT+9) to determine who will win the trophy here in Landing Casino of the Shinhwa World resort. The blinds will begin at Level 24: 15,000/30,000 with a big blind ante of 30,000, and each level will last 60 minutes. Play will go on tomorrow up until a champion is crowned, winning also the first prize of ₩183,695,000 (~$159,100).

Hiromi Sato just left the field with only one female player, as she departed in 12th place. She was on the big blind and shoved her less than 10 big blinds stack, after Zhang Yang's raise from under the gun. Yang called and he was way ahead.

Hiromi Sato: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Zhang Yang: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The board didn't change anything, with {q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Sato won ₩12,641,000 for her 12th place.

Boning Zhang was left with around ten big blinds for a respectable amount of time, and he found a good spot to shove when he picked up a pocket pair from middle position. Right next to him, Duc Trung Vu was seated and he just called. The rest of the table folded and the two players opened their cards.

Boning Zhang: {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Duc Trung Vu: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The dealer opened {4-Clubs}{7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{k-Spades} on the board and Zhang left the field to just 12 players.

A massive pot just took place, with a double elimination earned by Huidong Gu. Jingxuan Zhu opened the action by raising to 45,000 under the gun, and Suhang Zhao announced all in for 10 big blinds from the small blind. Huidong Gu went all in from the big blind, covering both players, and Jingxuan Zhu called the all in!

The board ran clean for the kings, with {7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Huidong Gu sent two players to the rail, by propelling his stack to 1.5 million chips.

Quan Zhou was another one of the short stacks in the last two tables and he picked up sevens, seemingly the perfect spot to shove with this hand and his stack from the hijack. Unfortunately for him, Huidong Gu was right next to him and picked up tens, calling Zhou's shove.

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs} and the field is down to 16 players.

The Biggest Pot of the Main Event

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Lijiang Liu (right)
Lijiang Liu (right)

An amazing 1 million-chip pot just took place in the Main Event, and it put its winner to the top of the chip counts.

We caught the action on the turn, with the board showing {6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. The player in the big blind had bet 45,000, Lijiang Liu raised to 145,000 from UTG+1, and the big blind three-bet to 245,000 chips. Liu decided to call and there were already more than half a million chips in the table.

The river was the {5-Clubs} and the big blind player announced all in. Lijiang Liu went into the tank for about two minutes, but then grabbed some chips and hit them hard in the table, announcing the call for his life, with a little bit more than 200,000 chips behind him.

He tabled {8-Spades}{7-Spades} for a straight and his opponent was very disappointed when he saw it, opening his {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for trips.

Liu was very excited with his win, as well as his friends in the rail, as they were all together shouting for the huge pot he won. With this pot, Lijiang Liu is in the top of the chipcounts with 1,000,000 chips.

Xiaofeng Jiang is the Bubble Boy of 2019 APPT Jeju Main Event

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Xiaofeng Jiang (left)
Xiaofeng Jiang (left)

It took three all in and calls, for the bubble to burst, here in the 2019 PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Jeju Main Event. There was a double-up for the short stack player, a split-pot and an elimination.

Firstly, a short-stack player was in the big blind with the small blind shoving on him. The at-risk player picked up {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and was in great shape versus his opponent's {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. The dealer spread the {4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}flop and the {10-Spades} turn, meaning the at-risk player had to fade all the remaining nines of the deck in order to stay alive, which he did when the {k-Diamonds} fell on the river.

In the next hand, there were two all-ins on two different tables, with one of them bringing in the end of the bubble. In the first of the two hands, there were two players in on the flop, with {k-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} on the board. The short-stack player had bet 37,000 and his opponent put him all in for 60,000 more. The short stack player called with {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and was in the verge of elimination, when his opponent tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}, ready to out-kick his opponent.

The {6-Diamonds} on the turn was the perfect lifeboat for the short-stack, and the {q-Spades} on the river would have given him the pot if the turn was not a full-house for both players!

The dealer on the table just three feet away was waiting, as per the instructions of the tournament director, for the first all-in to finish. After the hand was over it was Xiaofeng Jiang who was the player at risk, having shoved and got a call from his neighbor in the cutoff.

Xiaofeng Jiang: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Cutoff Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The flop came {9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Jiang kept his lead in the hand, getting closer to the double up. However, the {k-Hearts} on the turn was a disaster, at least from Jiang's perspective, as now he had to find one of the two remaining tens in the deck to stay alive. The {6-Diamonds} in the river was the card that wrote his epilogue in the event, as he left just one spot shy of the payouts.

The 41 remaining players have all secured the minimum payment of KRW 4,345,000 (~$3,765).

Tae Hoon Han Up to 650k

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Tae Hoon Han
Tae Hoon Han

Tae Hoon Han is only going up for Day 2, and he just won a sizeable pot against Sahil Chuttani. Han raised from the hijack preflop and Chuttani called from the very next seat, while everybody else folded on the table.

The flop came {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}, and Han elected to check, with Chuttani betting 13,000. Han called and the {a-Spades} fell on the turn.

Han checked again, and Chuttani bet this time 24,000, bringing the second check-call for the New Zealander.

The {10-Hearts} completed the board on the river and Han checked for a third time. Chuttani thought about it for a long time, another player called the clock on him and a couple of seconds later the Indian slipped a bet of 76,000 chips. Han snap-called showing {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds} while Chuttani opened his {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for just king-high.

With this pot Tae Hoon Han is up to 650,000, while Sahil Chuttani is left with 120,000.

Aces for Busse

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Shawn Busse
Shawn Busse

Shawn Busse picked up aces from under the gun and he made the most out of them by busting an opponent. He was in a three-way pot versus a middle position player and the small blind, and the board was reading {8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. The small blind was about to act first, and he announced first, while Busse was next to act asking for a count. The dealer informed the players that the all in was for 39,500 chips and Busse slipped in the table the respective chips to indicate a call.

The other player looked like he wanted to play his hand, but he finally folded, showing {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. The two remaining players in the hand opened their cards:

UTG: {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Shawn Busse: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and the river the {k-Clubs} with Busse sending his opponent to the rail, while he is up to 350,000 chips.

New Zealand's Tae Hoon Han is returning with the Day 2 chip lead

A total of 362 players have battled it out at the baize over the three respective Day 1 flights of the KRW 2,500,000 APPT Jeju Main Event and this number has been whittled down to a more manageable 97.

These 97 survivors have all assembled for the first time for Day 2, which kicks off at midday on Wednesday, June 26. Level length has increased from 40-minutes to 60, with ten levels scheduled for the day. Blinds start at Level 14, coming in at 1,500/3,000 with a 3,000 big blind ante.

The man leading the charge is no stranger to the top of the table, with former 2017 PokerStars Festival Korea Main Event Champion Tae Hoon Han returning with a stack of 296,500 after topping the Day 1A counts, which is good for the chip lead. The New Zealander is joined at the top of the counts by fellow Day 1A qualifier Xiaojie Lu from China, who will be beginning the day second in the counts with a stack of 271,000.

It is another Chinese player, Changyang Liu, rounding out the podium with Liu looking to better his third-place finish in the opening High Roller event.

There are also two seasoned players who have already achieved poker's holy grail in the field, with the USA's Shawn Busse (263,500) and China's Jiang Chen (122,000) having tasted victory at the World Series of Poker, with both players holding a coveted WSOP gold bracelet. Both will have their eye on earning a slice of the KRW 790,065,000 (~$684,620) prize pool, and competition for the money spots is expected to be fierce. The top 41 spots will pay out with a min-cash good for KRW 4,345,000 (~$3,765).

Nobody will be playing for that though, and all players will have their eye firmly on the KRW 183,695,000 (~$159,190) top prize, in addition to the trophy, title and something money can't buy — the chance to make poker history by becoming the first-ever APPT Jeju Main Event Champion.
