Day 2 Ready To Go

Start of Day 2 Chip Leader - Mehrdad Razmi
Start of Day 2 Chip Leader - Mehrdad Razmi

Welcome back to SKYCITY Auckland Casino for Day 2 of the 2014 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Auckland Main Event!

Eighty players have merged together from the first three flights as the sole survivors still within a chance of capturing the final APPT title of the season. Mehrdad Razmi (186,500) sits atop the leaderboard holding a slight advantage over Day 1a chip leader Ben Rendall (179,600) and Day 1c chip leader Terangi Matenga (170,400). Other notable players still in contention include Luke Brabin, Joachim Chia, Alex Lynskey, David Lim, Danni “Brotha D” Leaoasavaii, Michael Guzzardi, Jesse McKenzie, Dean Blatt and Father-and-Son duo Luke and Robert Spano.

With plenty of short stacks and room to manoeuvre due to such a fantastic structure, every one of the eighty left will be jostling to sneak into one of the top twenty-four paying spots before making a run at the final table where a NZ$132,000 first prize is on offer.

Play is set to begin in roughly an hours time at 12:15p.m NZST with plans to play down to the final table. PokerNews will again be on the floor providing all the live coverage - so stick around and enjoy the 2014 APPT Auckland Main Event live from the floor of the SKYCITY Auckland Casino!

Early Exit For Briggs

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

The table folded around to Mehrdad Razmi in the hijack who opened to 2,600. When the action folded to Justin Briggs on the big blind he moved all in. Razmi made the call and both players tabled their cards.

Razmi: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Briggs: {A-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds} to see Razmi hold with the better kicker to see him add to his chip leader.

Sale Takes Out Kibblewhite

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Alicia Sale moved all in for 18,300 from the hijack.

Hamish Kibblewhite then moved all in from the button for 500 less chips as the blinds got out of the way.

Kibblewhite: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Sale: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{j-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to see Sale improve to a set on the flop as Kibblewhite was sent to the rail.

McKenzie Doubles In Big Hand

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

On a flop of {2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and with over 10,000 in the pot already, both Jesse McKenzie and Geoff Fitzpatrick exchanged raises till both players were all in. Both players had over 50,000 when all the money went in.

McKenzie: {5-Spades}{7-Spades}
Fitzpatrick: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Fitzpatrick had the over pair and was up against McKenzie’s lesser pair and flush draw. The {k-Spades} on the turn improved McKenzie to a flush and the lead and gave Fitzpatrick a set of kings. The {a-Clubs} on the river was no help to Fitzpatrick who was eliminated from the tournament.

Brotha D Crushing

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

We arrived at the table with the flop reading {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Max Schabram and Danni “Brotha D” Leaoasavaii had both moved all in and tabled their cards.

Schabram: {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Leaoasavaii: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Schabram had flopped a flush and straight draw but was trailing Leaoasavaii’s set of eights. The {2-Diamonds} on the turn sent Schabram into the lead with a flush but it was short lived as the {k-Spades} dropped on the river giving Leaoasavaii the full house and the win.
