Jozef Berec Doubles Up

Jozef Berec just found himself all in on a flop of {K-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades}. While Berec did have the best hand holding {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, he couldn't have felt all that confident going up against the {5-Spades}{4-Spades} of his opponent. The turn and river came {7-Clubs} and {J-Diamonds} respectively and Berec's top pair emerged as best. He doubled up to about 66,000 chips.

Jacques Zaicik Crippled

Action folded around to Jacques Zaicik on the button who raised to 4,000. Jason Min moved all in from the big blind for 26,000. Zaicik made the call and the players turned up their hands:

Zaicik: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Min: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

Min was essentially drawing to three outs and the flop contained one of them. The {A-Diamonds} was the door card and it's arrival left Zaicik with a one-outer that never came. He is now down to 7,000 chips while Jason Min climbs to about 50,000.

Talk About an "Action Flop"

Action folded around to Jacques Zaicik in the small blind who put in a standard raise. Adam Kagin re-raised all in from the big blind and Zaicik made the call. The players showed:

Zaicik: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Kagin: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The flop came {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and almost every player at the table expressed, either verbally or otherwise, their version of astonishment. The tournament director even made a point to recap the action over the P.A. system. The turn and river were blanks for Kagin who watched in disbelief as the 22,000 chip pot was pushed to Zaicik. Kagin is still alive however with a stack of about 18,000.

Jason Min Gets the Double Knockout

Jason Min just eliminated two players when his {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} held up against the {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} of his two opponents. Neither of Min's opponents were able to catch their overcards and Min emerged the victor. Min is now working with about 76,000 chips and has two less opponents to worry about.

Tournament Field Update

It has just been announced the 132 players have been eliminated thus far today leaving 54 players (with an average stack of 34,444) still on the quest for first place prize money.

Staying Out of Harm's Way

With Day 1 drawing to a close, the action appears to have slowed down a bit. Players seem less inclined to get involved in big pots than they were just a few hours ago. While there is still quite a few eliminations to go before we reach the money, it's always possible that coasting to Day 2 is in the back of some of the players' minds.

Amos Angelini Eliminated

Amos Angelini was just sent to the rail when his {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} was bested by the {A-Hearts}{10-Spades} of Danny Purkins. Angelini was in a dominating position preflop when the money went in, but that position was quickly reversed when the flop came {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Angelini failed to catch the runner-runner draws required to stay alive and his name has been added to the list of Day 1 casualties.
