Powell Doubles

After raising preflop, Julian Powell checked the flop and turn before moving all in on the river on a board of {9-Clubs}

. His opponent tanked before making the call, but Powell flipped {9-Hearts}

for top two pair to recover some chips and move back to 24,000.

Joon Hee Ya Stumbles

A middle position player raised it up to 2,500 and Joon Hee Ya made the call. They took a flop of {5-Spades}

and the middle position player led out for 3,700. Ya then raised it up to 8,000 before his opponent moved all in for 20,000. Ya gave up his hand and slips to 37,000 chips.

Ichikawa Gets There the Hard Way

Joon Hee Ya is plummeting down the leader board. He got all in against Masaki Ichikawa on a flop of {4-Hearts}

. Ichikawa's {K-Diamonds}

had been outflopped by Ya's {5-?}

. The turn {J-Clubs}

overcoated Ya's two pair and made a bigger two pair for Ichikawa. Ya couldn't catch a miracle 4-outer on the river when it fell {J-Hearts}

.

That hand dropped Ya to just 15,000. Ichikwawa now has 33,000.

Liu Takes Out Timex

Mike 'Timex' McDonald raised preflop from early position to 2,700 and J.J. Liu flat called in the cutoff. The blinds folded and they took a flop of {2-Clubs}

.

McDonald moved all in for his last 7,000 but Liu beat him into the pot with {A-Clubs}

for top pair, top kicker, leaving McDonald drawing to only three outs with his {A-Hearts}

.

The turn brought the {9-Clubs}

and the river rubbed salt into the wound when the {Q-Diamonds}

gave Liu trips to send "Timex" to the rail within sight of a day two berth. Liu is now sitting pretty with close to 60,000 chips.

Kenny Tran is down to just 9,000 chips after losing another pot. He reraised all in after the under-the-gun player raised to 3,500. Action folded back to that player, whom Tran had covered. He made the call and tabled {Q-Spades}

. Tran showed {10-Spades}

. He couldn't find help when the board ran out {K-Spades}

Michael Bonzon Triples!

Michael Bonzon has just tripled up in a huge multi-way all in confrontation. A late position player opened with a raise before the button, small blind and Bonzon in the big blind each moved all in over the top! The initial raiser folded pocket tens, as the cards were revealed.

Button: {A-?}

Small Blind: {9-?}

Bonzon:

The board bricked out for Bonzon and he finds a remarkable triple up to now sit with 53,000 chips.

Case Queen is Bad Luck for Levy

The big stacks are taking some hits here at the end of the day. Grant Levy recently made two pair with a river ace, holding ace-queen. He got all in against his opponent, who was holding pocket queens and had flopped a set of queens. That hand cost Levy about 20,000 chips and dropped him down to 42,000 as we head into the last ten minutes of play for the day.

Dunst's Turn

Tony Dunst is the latest big stack to take a hit late in the day. Joon He Ya opened the pot from the button for 2,800. Dunst reraised from the small blind to 8,500. After the big blind folded, Ya moved all in for about 22,000.

Dunst didn't hesitate in the slightest. "I call," he said. The cards were opened.

Ya: {A-Diamonds}

Dunst:

Ya flopped a pair with a {9-Hearts}

flop. The turn {K-Spades}

and river

were no help to Dunst. He drops to 36,000, while Ya shoots back up to 45,000.

Ichikawa Ends on a High Note

On one of the latest hands of the night, Huy Pham bet 8,000 on a {9-Hearts}

flop. Masaki Ichikawa calld. On the turn {10-Diamonds}

, all the chips went in the middle. Pham tabled {A-Spades}

for two pair, nines and fours, but Ichikawa had {Q-Clubs}

for two pair, queens and fours. The river {7-Hearts}

made Ichikawa the winner and sent Pham to the rail. He will not be returning tomorrow.

With that hand, Ichikawa jumped to about 75,000 in chips.

That brings an end to the day's play here on Day 1b of the 2008 APT Macau Main Event. We believe that 46 players have made it through the day with Ryan Gentry a likely overnight chip leader. Other notables to survive the day include Grant Levy, Tony Dunst, JJ Liu, Julius Colman, Julian Powell and Mel Judah. We'll have the updated chip counts for you shortly.

Tomorrow they will join the 23 survivors of Day 1a as they come together for the first time for this tournament. We're likely to have a few nervous moments in the early stages as we approach the money bubble, as play will continue right through until we have our final table set.
