Ali G Doubles Up at the Right Time

Ali Ghezelbash
Ali Ghezelbash
The short stacks are clawing for air at this point, desperately trying to squeak their way into the money. Ali Ghezelbash was one of the shortest left in the field. He moved all in from middle position for 31,000 after Brett Daphne opened for 12,000. Daphne made the call.

Daphne: {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts}
Ghezelbash: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}

The flop was perfect for Ghezelbash. It came {A-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} to give him top pair and eliminate any flush or straight possibilities for Daphne. Daphne was drawing dead by the turn {A-Clubs}, although he did spike a pair when the river fell {8-Diamonds}.

Ghezelbash is still short. He has 67,000 chips. Daphne is on 135,000.

Sbrzesny the Next to Go

No joy for Bodo
No joy for Bodo
We're one step closer to the money. Bodo Sbrzesny has left the building after running his pocket fours into Sorel Mizzi's pocket aces. Sbrzesny had fewer than 50,000 chips, leaving him with little choice but to push with fours and hope they held up. They didn't, and so he has been eliminated in 67th place.

Two more players will leave the tournament empty-handed. We'll be hand-for-hand after the next elimination, so expect the pace of play to slow down significantly.

Azadpeyma Eliminated

Omid Azadpeyma eliminated
Omid Azadpeyma eliminated
Sam Khouiss opened with a raise to 9,000 before Omid Azadpeyma moved all in for 14,000 in total. Khouiss made the call.

Khouiss: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Azadpeyma: {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Azadpeyma's pair was counterfeited by the board as the ace kicker of Khouiss played.

Azadpeyma is our 66th-place finisher as Khouiss is up to 86,000.

Bubble Time

With the elimination of Omid Azadpeyma we're now officially on the money bubble. The next player eliminated will go home with nothing more than a story to tell as every one else will be thrilled with an Aussie Millions Main Event cash result and at least AU$15,000 in prize money.

Play will now be hand-for-hand across all tables until the bubble bursts!

The Bubble Has Burst! No, It's a Split

Nali Kaselias was a river card from elimination
Nali Kaselias was a river card from elimination
With Nali Kaselias still one of the shortest stacks in the room, he was always going to be involved in an all-in around the bubble. That hand came against Zach Gruneberg. Preflop, Kaselias holding {k-Spades}{8-Spades} flat-called half of his 40,000-chip stack to see a {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop.

Of course on the flop he moved his entire stack in and Gruneberg made the call with {2-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a draw to a four-card flush. The {3-Clubs} turn made that flush for Gruneberg and had Kaselias heading to the rail in disgust, with many in the crowd believing he was drawing dead.

What they didn't see was that Kaselias could split the pot with any club, making a bigger flush on the board than Gruneberg's. That miracle river hit with the {a-Clubs} and Kaselias had to be summoned back to the table from halfway across the room.

With the split, Kaselias, the 2008 Melbourne Poker Championship Main Event winner, is still in dire straits as we wait for the bubble to burst.

Chop Chop

Another chop on the bubble. This time Jarred Solomon opened preflop to 7,500 and Chris Chronis made the call with position. On the {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop Solomon jammed his remaining 60,000 chips and Chronis called.

Solomon: {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Chronis: {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Both players tabled the same top pair, with Chronis freerolling a flush draw. It wouldn't hit though, with the board blanking out {q-Clubs}{a-Clubs} for a split pot.

Timex Takes One Off Mizzi

Michael "Timex" McDonald has just taken an almost 50,000-chip pot off Sorel Mizzi, while we wait for the bubble to burst. Mizzi opened to 7,500 preflop with McDonald making the call to see the {j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. Mizzi fired out 15,000, which McDonald flat-called. Both players checked the {7-Diamonds} turn and when the river hit the {3-Clubs}, Mizzi check-folded to a 27,500 bet from McDonald.

Heich Wins a Big Pot Off Levy

Grant Levy ponders a call.
Grant Levy ponders a call.
Preflop, five players limped in, to see the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop. With one check to Sourideth Inthavong under the gun, he fired 8,000. Grant Levy made the call in middle position and there was another fold to Christian Heich on the button. Heich fired 30,000 and action folded to Sourideth, who tanked a while before folding. Levy then went into the tank before making the call.

The turn brought the {3-Hearts}, which saw Levy tank for roughly a minute before checking, and Heich moved all in for 500,000. Levy again went into the tank for several minutes, eventually asking the dealer to spread the pot, so he could get a better idea of the amount in it. In the end he made the fold.

Docherty Bluffs Annica Ivert

David Docherty has taken a pot off Annica Ivert. Ivert opened preflop to 8,500 which Docherty called in the cutoff. The flop came {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} which saw Ivert lead 11,000, and Docherty once again flat-calling. The {10-Diamonds} turn had Ivert once again bet out, this time for 22,000, and Docherty came over the top for 77,000. Annica tanked for a moment before laying her hand down, only for Docherty to flash {9-?}{3-?} for nothing but a gutshot straight draw.

Docherty moves up to 250,000. Ivert down to 540,000.

We Have a Bubble Boy

Will Zemljaric sees the bad news
Will Zemljaric sees the bad news
It disappoints us to report that Team PokerNews player Will Zemljaric is today's bubble boy. He tangled with oversleeper Richard Ashby and didn't live to see another hand. Zemljaric bet 10,000 on the turn of a board of all small cards, {6-Spades} {3-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {5-Hearts}. Ashby raised to 35,000 and Zemljaric called.

The river fell {4-Hearts}. Zemljaric tanked for a minute before checking to Ashby. Ashby made sure he had Zemljaric covered before betting 45,000. Zemljaric asked the dealer to repeat the amount of the bet, then made a waving motion with his hands and said, "OK, I'm all in." Ashby nervously called. Zemljaric turned over complete air, {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. Ashby showed {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} for a set of eights, let out a deep breath, and collected the pot.

All of the remaining players are in the money!
