Kovacks Kicked Out, Mehmet Meets His Maker

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The field has been reduced to 26 players after the recent eliminations of Andreas Kovacs and Arif Mehmet.

Kovacs shipped the last of his stack into the middle before the flop with {A-}{J-}, only to run into the {A-}{K-} of Bodo Sbrzesny, who improved to trips after the board ran out {K-}{Q-}{9-}{3-}{K-}. For the first time in this tournament, Ben Delaney has been overtaken for the chip lead, as Sbrzesny now holds over 256,000 in chips.

A short time later, Mehmet moved all-in on the feature table with {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}, but was outdrawn by Leo Boxell's {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}, which paired up on the board of {4-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{K-Spades}{9-Clubs}. Given that we're only two eliminations from the money (and a few minutes away from the break), the action has slowed to a crawl.

Sheary Doubles, Boxell in Trouble

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Given that we're just two eliminations from the money, the pressure is starting to mount and it definitely showed during a hand between Leo Boxell and Adam Stoneham.

It was four-way action between Stoneham, Boxell, Andrew Jeffreys and Tim Davis on a flop that read {7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{Q-Spades}; Jeffreys and Davis checked out of the small and big blinds respectively before Stoneham led out for 7,000. Boxell was the only caller, making it heads-up to the turn of the {6-Clubs}.

Stoneham announced that he was all-in for 36,700 and Boxell went into the tank. Deep into the tank ...

... and while Boxell was thinking about his decision, the cry of "All in, call" went up behind them at table 32, where Peter Sheary had open-shoved from the cutoff for his last 23,900 with {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}.

Sheary was flipping for his tournament life against Ami Barer's {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}, but managed to double up to 48,500 after he hit the king on the turn on the board that read {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}.

Our focus then turned back to the feature table, where Boxell was still deep in the tank. After eight agonizing minutes, he folded, showing the {Q-Clubs}. Stoneham showed {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. "Oh well, we're two away from the money," Boxell sighed. Boxell is down to 35,000 while Stoneham moves up to more than 60,000.

Boxell Doubles Through Jeffreys

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Not long after that nail-biting hand, Leo Boxell was able to double up through Andrew Jeffreys and is now holding a stack worth more than 72,000 in chips.

The money was all-in the middle before the flop and Boxell was flipping with {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} against Jeffreys' {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Fortunately, the board was spread {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, giving Boxell some much-needed breathing space. Jeffreys is down to around 80,000 in chips.

Barer Busto, We're on the Bubble!

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Ami Barer has just been felted at the hands of Ben Vinson and we're now playing hand-for-hand!

Barer moved the last of his money into the middle before the flop with {10-Spades}{6-Spades}, but ran into Ben Vinson's {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. Neither hand improved on the board of {2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Barer was done for the day.

One more elimination until payday ... stay tuned!

Bubble Bubble, Toil & Trouble ...

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Josh Tekesky managed to double up through Ben Delaney on table 30, but Delaney regained those chips through Simon Charett as hand-for-hand play continues in this event.

Earlier, Tekesy moved the last of his chips into the middle on a flop of {J-Spades}{K-Spades}{3-Hearts}, having hit top set with his {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} against Delaney's {Q-}{J-}. A repeat {J-Hearts} fell on the turn, filling Tekesky up and Delaney had already cut out the chips to ship over by the time the river {6-Hearts} completed the board.

The crowd then moved over to table 32, where Waki Waki and Ben Vinson were locking horns over a flop that read {K-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}; Waki led out for 8,300, Vinson raised to 19,500 and Waki called before both players checked down the turn and river of {Q-Diamonds}, {Q-Clubs}. Waki showed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and that was enough for Vinson to muck his hand.

Our reporter then wheeled back around to table 30 where Delaney and Simon Charett were heads-up to a flop of {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}; Charett check-called Delaney's bet of 5,100 after the flop, then check-called Delaney's bets of 11,500 on the turn of the {9-Spades} and then 128,000 on the river of the {2-Hearts}. Delaney quickly tabled {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and Charett sighed as he threw his hand away.

Davis Bubbles, We're in the Money!

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

It appeared that we were in for a long hand-for-hand session, but just as the blinds ticked over into the new level, Tim Davis moved the last of his money into the middle on a board that read {2-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades} with {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

Adam Stoneham called with {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, hoping that he would outdraw him. "Ace one time," he said to the dealer. Nothing on the turn of the {7-Hearts}, but Stoneham "Greensteined" Davis with the {A-Clubs} on the river.

Table 28 has been broken and we're officially down to 24 players! From this point onwards, they're guaranteed at least AUD $3,600.
