The 2011 Aussie Millions Champ is Gone

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Four years ago, David Gorr topped a field of 721 players to win the Aussie Millions Main Event for AUD$1,600,000. Gorr, who is a member of the Australian Poker Hall of Fame, was in today's field, but his time in it came to an end just prior to the break.

We missed his elimination, but from what Angel Guillen told us, Gorr got his stack all in preflop holding {k-}{q-} only to run into the {a-}{a-} of his opponent. The board ran out clean, and Gorr's shot at a second Aussie Millions Main Event title went up in smoke... at least for another year.

The 2014 Aussie Millions Champ is Going Well

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Ami Barer
Ami Barer

The defending champion is alive and well, busy winning a battle of the blinds.

Ami Barer completed from the small blind and the big blind checked his option. The board rolled out {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and Barer bet 1,500, 3,500 and 5,500 on each street. His opponent called all the way before mucking upon seeing Barer's {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

Blain Set Up By Huang

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A short-stacked Dermot Blain shoved all in from middle position for his last 18,000 or so and cleared the field all the way to Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang in the big blind. Huang liked what he saw and made the call, which brought about the coin flip.

Huang: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Blain: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Blain needed to improve to stay alive, but his chances went out the window when the {7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop improved Huang to a set. The {K-Clubs} turn actually left the Irishman drawing dead, and he collected his things as the dealer put out the {A-Hearts} river to make it official.

King Dan Dethroned By a Great Call from Urlings

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

Action folded around to "King" Dan Smith in the small blind and he raised to 3,000, which Jordi Urlings called from the big. When the flop came down {9-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Spades}, Smith bet 2,500 and Urlings opted to call. The {A-Clubs} turn saw Smith bet again, this time 4,500, and again Urlings just called.

When the {4-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, Smith moved all in for his last 16,000 and Urlings made what turned out to be a great call. Smith showed the {j-Clubs}{10-Spades} for jack high, but it was not quite good enough as Urlings held the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for queen high.

Next stop for Smith, who won the AUD$100,000 Challenge back in 2012, will likely be the AUD$250,000 Challenge.

Obligatory "Ivey Wins Pot" Post

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Phil Ivey moved up to 136,000 after winning a big blind versus button battle.

The action folded around to Isaac Lau on the button and he raised to 3,000. Ivey peeled from big blind and check-called a 4,000 c-bet on an {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} flop. Both players checked the {j-Clubs} turn before Ivey led out for 10,000 on the {k-Hearts} river.

Lau smiled, thought for a minute, and flicked in the call. Ivey opened {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and raked in the pot as Lau mucked.

Guttmann Storms the Kastle in Massive Kings-Versus-Aces Pot

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Casey Kastle
Casey Kastle

Last level Michael Guttmann managed to double through Casey Kastle, and now a level later he's finished off Slovenia's all-time money leader.

We're not sure how the action unfolded, but we do know a preflop raising war took place between the two, who were both sitting on a little over 100,000. Eventually the chips got in and the cooler was revealed.

Kastle: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Guttmann: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

It was a heartbreaker for Kastle, and he watched helplessly as the board ran out a dry {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. Kastle, who moments before was sitting pretty, packed up his things and made an unexpected exit in Level 10. Meanwhile, Guttmann was pushed the massive pot and shot up to 225,000.

Benson Best

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Gary Benson
Gary Benson

It's probably best not to try and bluff Gary Benson, he doesn't like to fold, especially if he thinks you're full of it.

He raised to 3,500 from mid position and was called by Ismael Bojang (HJ), Jayawardhana Karawgodagedon (SB) and Stephen Chidwick (BB). The flop fanned {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Karawgodagedon don-led for 3,000. Only Benson called to the {10-Hearts} turn where he faced another 3,000 bet. He called and both players checked the {8-Diamonds} river.

Karawgodagedon opened {a-Spades}{6-Spades} and lost out to Benson's {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. Karawgodagedon tapped the table in appreciation at Benson's play.

Jack the Lad Gruissem

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Philipp Gruissem's move up the leaderboard has continued after he eliminated an opponent in a battle of the blinds.

The action folded around to him in the small blind and he set his big blinded opponent all in for his last 17,000 holding {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}. The big blind called off with {a-Spades}{6-Spades} but failed to stay ahead on the {3-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} board.
