Dwan Taking Over

Tom Dwan
Tom Dwan
Having won three of the last four pots, Tom "Durrrr" Dwan is fast establishing himself as the player to beat at this final table. In a recent hand, both Michael "Sticky" Guttman and Dwan limped into the pot and Mark Kassis checked his option in the big blind.

All three players checked the {10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop and the {6-Spades} popped off on the turn. The action was checked around to Dwan who fired a bet of 4,400; Kassis was the lone caller.

The last card off the deck was the {9-Diamonds} and Kassis passed the first action to Dwan who fired again, this time, sliding a stack of chips worth 11,000 into the middle. Kassis thought for a quick minute before making the call and Dwan quickly spouted, "Nuts," as he turned over the {K-Spades}{J-Spades} for an unbeatable straight. Kassis never showed his cards...

By the Numbers

With eight players remaining, the average chip stack is 64,500.

Spectators are lined up three-four rows deep.

Van Marcus has played (maybe) six hands since the final table began.

Lenny Barshack has been all in (and survived) twice.

Mark Kassis' table-side massage is going on 30 minutes.

Van Gets Involved

Van Marcus finally gets his feet wet with a bet of 4,200 on a flop of {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. However Jamie Pickering bumps it up another 14,800 and Van goes into the tank. Van has been playing very carefully at this final table and decides to get out of the water and wait for a better spot as he tosses away his hand.

Marcus Doubles Through Dwan

Van Marcus Doubles Up
Van Marcus Doubles Up
On a board showing {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}, with a heap of chips already in the pot, Tom "Durrrr" Dwan put Van Marcus to a decision for all of his chips with a hefty bet on the flop. Van wasted no time making the call and turned over {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two pair with a gut-shot straight draw. Dwan reluctantly flipped over {9-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}, realizing his chances of winning the pot were slim.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} and at first Dwan thought it was a good card for him, until he realized Marcus had a flush draw as well - the nut flush, at that. The last card off the deck was the {4-Diamonds} which changed nothing and Van doubled through to about 65,000 in chips.

Jamie Pickering Eliminated in 8th Place (AU$15,480)

Jamie Pickering - 8th Place
Jamie Pickering - 8th Place
In a raised pot between Jamie Pickering and Tom "Durrrr" Dwan, the two players saw a flop of {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

Pickering opened the action with a bet of 11,200. Dwan then re-raised to 35,000 and Pickering asked for a count. Dwan had him covered, but that didn't deter Pickering from going all in. Dwan insta-called and a buzz is sent around the fans on the rail as the cards are flipped!

Pickering: {6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Dwan: {A-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

On an amazing flop, Dwan had flopped top set with the nut flush draw, but still trailed Pickering who had the nut straight.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} to make Dwan his flush, before the river of {2-Hearts} improved his hand to a full house to eliminate Jamie Pickering in 8th Place.

After taking out one of the fellow big stacks, Tom Dwan has jumped to a big lead with over 180,000 chips!

No Love for Van

Van Marcus has just asked to borrow Mark Kassis' masseur for a few minutes to relieve some tension in his neck.

Kassis, a good 40 minutes into his massage, replied, "Stop watching!"

Van Wins

After what seemed to be a 50-60 minute massage, Mark Kassis has finally turned his masseur over to Van Marcus.

Sexton Doubles Up

Tom "Durrrr" Dwan opens the action with a raise to 5,200 and Mike Sexton to his immediate left pops it up another 13,400. Dwan makes the call and the two players take a flop of {3-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{5-Spades}.

Dwan leads out with a bet of 35,000 which is virtually enough to put Sexton all in. Sexton announces that he is all in, and Dwan throws in some extra change to make the call.

Dwan: {5-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Sexton: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

Dwan needs help as the two pair of Sexton has the lead but the {10-Diamonds} on the turn and river {J-Spades} don't deliver and Sexton doubles up to around 100,000 chips.
