Inaugural APO Main Event Champion Hasan Onay
Inaugural APO Main Event Champion Hasan Onay

Welcome to the 2025 Australian Poker Open, which is already underway with players from across the globe gathering at Club Marconi at Doltone House Western Sydney to take part in the $4,000,000 AUD guaranteed series. The crown jewel of the series — the APO Main Event — continues today with Day 1d and features an increased guaranteed prize pool of $1,500,000 (up from $1,000,000 in 2024) due to the resounding success of last year's main event, which smashed the guarantee after attracting 549 players and generating a $1,457,100 prize pool. Today marks the fourth of six starting flights and is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. local time.

Last year, Hasan "Huss" Onay overcame the odds to become the inaugural APO Main Event Champion and take home a cool $284,480 after making a deal with runner-up Higor Seibel.

Lui is Flush With Chips

Level 2 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Heads-up with several thousand already in the middle, Domenic Galati checked from the big blind to Erping Lui, who fired 4,000 into the middle. Galati called.

Both players checked on the 2 turn and Galati checked a final time after the J filled the river. Lui cut out a bet of 12,000 and placed it into the middle, which Galati called after a bit of thought.

Lui turned over 76 for a flush and Galati sent his hand into the muck to award Lui the large pot.

Klinger Gets a Tough Fold From Issa

Level 3 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Daniel Klinger
Daniel Klinger

Daniel Klinger opened to 1200 from middle position and was three-bet to 3,600 by Moussa Issa in the cutoff. Action folded back around to Klinger, who called.

Both players checked on the A106 flop and Klinger took over the betting lead with a 4,000 bet on the 9 turn. Issa called.

Klinger sized up for a hefty 18,000 bet after the K fell on the river — sending Issa deep into the tank.

Eventually, the clock was called and it was ruled Issa would have 30 seconds to act. Issa received a verbal count from five seconds down to zero and his hand was declared dead to award Klinger the sizable pot.

Dong Out; Dong In

Level 4 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Nelson Dong
Nelson Dong

Robert Sabados was seen collecting the rest of Nelson Dong's chips with queen-jack against Dong's ace-ten on a queen-high runout.

Dong immediately re-entered and wasted little time getting back in action.

At Dong's new table, Ryan Hall opened to 1,900 first to act and was called by Dylan Rands in the small blind and Dong in the big blind.

Action checked to Hall on the K72 flop and he continued for 4,000, which got a fold from Rands and a call from Dong.

Both players checked on the 2 turn, but Dong led out for 8,000 after the 5 completed the board.

Hall didn't take long to look Dong up and Dong tabled Q3 for a flush. Hall sent his hand into the muck, giving Dong a good start with his fresh stack.

Murray's Boat Ships Ogilvy Out

Level 7 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Lewis Murray
Lewis Murray

Wei Zhu opened to 3,000 from early position and was called by Lewis Murray on the button and Gavin Ogilvy in the big blind for a three-way pot.

Ogilvy checked to Zhu, who continued for 3,500 on the 592 flop. Murray and Ogilvy both called.

Action checked through on the 2 turn; however, Ogilvy fired 22,000 into the middle after the 6 completed the board. Zhu quickly folded, but Murray counted out his stack before raising enough to put Ogilvy all in for approximately his last 30,000.

Ogilvy committed the rest of his stack into the middle and Murray turned over 99 for a full house. Ogilvy nodded his head in acknowledgment as he showed he held 87 for a rivered straight before exiting the tournament area.

Hall Flops Quads to Send One Out

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Ryan Hall
Ryan Hall

Ryan Hall was involved in a preflop raising war that ended with one player all in from the cutoff for a bit under 50,000. Hall called from the small blind to put his opponent at risk.

Cutoff: KQAll in
Ryan Hall: 1010

It was a fair fight, and the K appeared in the window, however, the two cards behind it were the 10 and 10 — leaving Hall's opponent drawing nearly dead.

The 9 turn sealed the deal and an irrelevant 7 completed the board — awarding Hall the large pot with his quad tens.

Brutal Cooler Ends Ajez's Day

Level 10 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Ryan Hall opened to 6,000 from middle position and was called by Najeem Ajez in the hijack, Shengfeng Ma in the cutoff, Jarrod Thatcher in the small blind, and Banipal Babana in the big blind for a five-way pot.

It was checked to Ajez on the QQ7 flop and he bet 10,000. Ma called and everyone else folded.

Ma called an 18,000 bet from Alez on the 5 turn and then shoved all in facing a 32,000 bet from Ajez on the 8 river.

Ajez looked pained and re-checked his hole cards before calling all in for approximately 30,000.

Ma turned over 77 for a flopped full house and Ajez showed he held KxQx for trip queens before exiting the tournament area.

Sitzoukis Catches Lightning on the River to Bust Klinger

Level 11 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Daniel Klinger opened to 8,000 from the hijack and it was folded to Paris Sitzoukis on the button, who announced he was all in for approximately 90,000 total.

"Don't slow roll me!" Sitzoukis shouted as it was folded back to Klinger.

Klinger obliged and quickly called all in for slightly less when the action was back on him.

Daniel Klinger: AAAll in
Paris Sitzoukis: 1010

Klinger was in great shape to double up with his rockets and remained that way on the 5K3 flop and 3 turn. However, a fateful 10 landed on the river — improving Sitzoukis to a full house to eliminate Klinger from Day 1d.

Ryan Hall and one other player were all-in preflop against Joe Antar, who had both players covered.

Opponent: AAAll in
Ryan Hall: Ax8xAll in
Joe Antar: 66

Antar was looking for a six to knock out both his opponents, which came immediately on the 6J10 flop to improve him to a set.

The 10 turn uprgraded Antar to a full house and the Q river changed nothing to award Antar the double elimination.

Weiran Pu shoved for his last 70,000 from early position and was called by Ehsan Amiri, who had Pu covered on the button.

Weiran Pu: A8All in
Ehsan Amiri: JJ

The QJ9 flop kept Amiri ahead with a set of jacks, but gave Pu outs to a flush.
