Welcome To Day 1b of the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series $2,500 Main Event

The 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series $2,500 Main Event continues Saturday with the second of two flights, beginning at noon local time.

Eighteen players have already advanced from Friday's Day 1a field of 143. A busy day is expected as this afternoon rolls around and a room full of more hopefuls take their shot at advancing to Day 2 on Sunday. They'll all be gunning for Nick Raio, whose stack of 448,000 was enough to make him the chip leader from the first flight of the event.

Once again, all players will get 25,000 to start with blinds beginning at 100/100 and increasing every 40 minutes. Fifteen-minute breaks will occur every two hours with a one-hour dinner break at the end of Level 9 (approximately 6:30 p.m.). Late registration will close at the end of the dinner break and the prize pool will become finalized at that time.

Plenty of worthy competition made their way through bestbet Jacksonville's doors yesterday and failed to advance. Players such as January 2021 Winter Open Main Event champion Scott Stewart, Timothy Miles, Andrew Brinkley, Michael Wang, and Wayne Harmon were among that group, and most or all are expected to be seen once more looking to take advantage of this final opportunity to advance.

Day 1a reached a hard stop with 10:11 remaining in Level 14, the final scheduled level of play for the day. As such, the Day 1b field will have a shorter day by a few minutes just the same. Who will be around when that time comes? Keep it at PokerNews to find out.

Turvin Gets an Early Elimination

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Rodney Turvin
Rodney Turvin

Action was heads up between Rodney Turvin in the cutoff and an opponent in the big blind and stacks got in on a board of {5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} after the big blind check-raised Turvin and called off his remaining chips when Turvin three-bet jammed.

Rodney Turvin: {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Turvin's full house had his opponent drawing dead to the river {10-Spades} and he scored the early knockout.

Sewell Off to a Fast Start

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Ronnie Sewell
Ronnie Sewell

Ronnie Sewell was in the cutoff and saw his opponent in the hijack check-call bets of 4,000 on {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and another 5,000 on {9-Clubs}. Both players then checked through the river {8-Spades} to take the hand to showdown.

The hijack showed {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for a better two pair than what was on the board and Sewell turned over {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flopped straight, good to earn him the pot. Sewell is off to a hot start and now has over three starting stacks before the first break of the afternoon.

Kevin Ha
Kevin Ha

Action folded around to the cutoff, who open-jammed. Kevin Ha was in the small blind and asked for a count, which was totaled to be 5,800 before jamming himself. Jack Sumner asked for a count on Ha's stack out of the big blind and then folded upon seeing it north of 20,000.

All-In Player: {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Kevin Ha: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

The all-in player picked up two extra outs on the turn of a runout {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Spades} but Ha was the one to improve on the river, finishing the hand with a full house to earn the pot and knockout.

Palma Close to Six Figures

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Nick Palma
Nick Palma

Nick Palma was just spotted with a pile of chips in front of him nearing 100,000 and recounted a recent trial in which he took a player's stack. Palma opened to 1,500 under the gun and was called by the player on his left. Action then folded around to Jack Sumner in the big blind, who also defended.

The flop fell {9-}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Sumner checked. Palma made a continuation-bet of 2,500 and received a call from the player on his left. Sumner folded, taking action heads up to the turn {q-} and Palma checked to his opponent. The player bet 3,000, which Palma called.

The river came {a-} and Palma checked again. His opponent put in another 5,000 and Palma check-jammed on him for around 20,000 more effective. His opponent called.

Jackson Doubles Through Sikes

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
David Jackson
David Jackson

Derahn Sikes had a bet of 5,000 in front of him from under the gun into a pot of 7,500 with the board reading {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. David Jackson had checked his big blind and action was back on him. He called.

The turn came {j-Diamonds} and Jackson checked again. Sikes bet 5,300 and Jackson check-raised to 14,300. Sikes found a call and the river came {4-Spades}. Jackson shoved for 22,000 more and Sikes called.

Jackson tabled {6-Spades}{3-Spades} and Sikes threw his hand down onto the felt in a frustrated manner. The dealer immediately reached across to scoop up the no-good hand and send it into the muck before making the pot right to ship Jackson's way.

Harmon Over a Quarter-Million

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Wayne Harmon
Wayne Harmon

Wayne Harmon was just seen with a stack that has grown to 250,000. Not long ago, he was already over 120K and involved in a preflop raising war in which he put an opponent all in after the player had already committed over half of his stack. The player folded {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} face up.

"Do you want to see?" asked Harmon. The player responded that he did and Harmon sent {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} onto the middle of the table for all to see. The player tapped the table twice, congratulating Harmon on a nice hand. He has since chipped up a bit more and appears to be the chip leader with around two hours of play remaining in the evening.
