Ken Daneyko Wins Event 17 for $14,723

Level 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

The last event of the Borgata Spring Poker Open was a star-studded affair, with National Hockey League legend and local hero of New Jersey Devils fame Ken Daneyko playing for real money after finishing as the runner up in last night's charity event.

Daneyko is a winner though, pure and simple. So he showed up here today looking to add yet another trophy to the mantle. And he did just that, taking down top honors after playing an absurd 19 hours of poker in one day.

A total of 271 entries and reentries were recorded over the first six levels, generating a $52,574 prize pool with $14,723 waiting up top. The one-day tournament was long and grueling, running for more than 18 hours, something which surprised the recreational players who comprised most of the field. There were a few pros in the field though, as we spotted Eric Baldwin mixing it up during the early levels.

With the WPT World Championship being played in the same room, PokerNews' coverage was diverted to one of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world, but for many of the players in Event 17 today was their Main Event.

Daneyko Dominating the Counts

Level 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Ken Daneyko
Ken Daneyko

Ken Daneyko knows how to close out wins when he reaches the grand stage, as the three Stanley Cup championships he captured for the New Jersey Devils prove.

Daneyko is on the cusp of another victory here this morning at the Borgata Spring Poker Open, as he currently sits with 5.5 million chips - with Adrian Naggy in ownership of 1.275 million.

A recent hand saw Daneyko check the {q-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, prompting a bet of 300,000 from Naggy. Daneyko simply shoved all in over the top to force the fold, showing he knows how to make moves on the blue line and the green felt as well.

Mark Leviton Eliminated in 3rd Place ($4,995)

Level 30 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Mark Leviton - 3rd Place
Mark Leviton - 3rd Place

Mark Leviton's last hand of the night just went down, after he called a 300,000 open from Ken Daneyko.

The flop fell {5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and with his stack depleted and the tournament quickly devolving into a turbo shove-fest, Leviton shoved holding {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}. His bet was snapped off by the Stanley Cup champion though, as Daneyko tabled {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} with a flourish.

The turn ({9-Diamonds}) and river ({7-Clubs}) changed nothing and Leviton hit the rail after building a big chip lead just a level before.

Mikhail Mironenko Eliminated in 4th Place ($4,048)

Level 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Mikhail Mironenko - 4th Place
Mikhail Mironenko - 4th Place

After reaching his second final table of the Borgata Spring Poker Open, Mikhail Mironenko went bust in a pair versus pair confrontation before the flop.

Mironenko found {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} in the hole and his chips were moved into the middle, but Adrian Naggy tabled {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} to find himself in a great spot.

The final board came down {3-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}{a-Clubs} and with that Mironenko's run came to an end.

Rob O'Rourke Eliminated in 6th Place ($2,629)

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 5,000 ante
Rob O'Rourke - 6th Place
Rob O'Rourke - 6th Place

Rob O'Rourke flopped top pair with his {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} after becoming involved in the fifth preflop all-in collision during this level, but the {j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} was still dangerous for him.

Mark Leviton held the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and although he had lost the race through three cards, he happily pointed out that he could still catch a diamond.

Just like that, the {2-Diamonds} binked off on the turn to leave O'Rourke drawing dead, and because the river didn't matter, we didn't even watch.

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Frank Ingardia - 9th Place
Frank Ingardia - 9th Place

Frank Ingardia fell like so many wingers before him, running right into the brick wall known as Ken Daneyko.

Daneyko held {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and was trailing through the turn against Ingardia's {10-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, with the board reading {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} by the turn, but the river came {q-Diamonds}.
