Lady Luck: Ladies Deep Stack NLHE Reentry Set to Start at 11 a.m. Local Time

In just over a half an hour Ladies Night will begin early at the Borgata, with Event 6 ($300 Ladies Deep Stack NLHE Reentry) set to kick off at 11 a.m. local time.

Patricia Knoll will most likely be here today, after taking down the Ladies event at the Borgata Winter Poker Open in January. A regular on the local poker scene, Knoll had a strong group of supporters cheering here on then, including Alyson Parker and Nancy Martin, both of whom are also expected to fill out the field.

Young grinder Megan Milburn has played nearly a full slate so far at the Borgata Spring Poker Open, and as the runner-up in the Winter edition of this event, she will be one of the more skilled players in the field.

Teresa Sexton is also in attendance, and after her 3rd place finish in this event back in January, she is looking to reach back-to-back final tables while playing against many of her best friends.

Keep it here throughout the day to follow all the action, as PokerNews proudly provides live continuous coverage of the Ladies event here at the Borgata Spring Poker Open.

From Russia With Love

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

The same table which saw a 45,000-chip pot develop on the second deal of the day just had another major collision take place.

The action began when four players limped into the pot, only to see Olga Petrovskaya raise to 350 from the button. All four limpers (a group which included the small blind, a middle position player, the cutoff and the hijack) all came along for the ride.

When the dealer fanned a flop of {4-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} across the felt the action was checked three times until cutoff fired out a bet of 350. Unimpressed, Petrovskaya opted to raise the action to 1,500, and the cutoff flatted to see the {k-Clubs} fall on fourth street.

The cutoff led out once again, this time for 600, and Petrovskaya reapplied the pressure with a raise to 2,500. After another smooth call from the cutoff, the river brought the {q-Spades} to the table to pair the board.

Firing a third barrel, the cutoff flicked a bet of 1,200 into the middle, only to see the relentless Russian native to her left raise again, making it 5,000 to go. That bet was essentially snap-called and the cutoff rolled over her {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} with the confidence, believing her full house to have bested a likely club flush.

Instead, Petrovskaya coolly revealed her {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, tabling the best boat on board to claim ownership of the huge pot. Petrovskaya, an adept student of the game who recently placed 4th in another Atlantic City tournament, will now be a force to contend with as she now holds a big stack with which to bully her opponents.

Alex Goldberg

In the vast majority of Ladies events played these days, there is likely to be one or two men who exercise their rights by crashing the party. And while their decision to enter an event ostensibly reserved for women is theirs and theirs alone, the sight of a bearded man duking it out against a table ringed with women always causes a bit of a stir in the room.

Today, that man is Alex Goldberg, and while he readily admitted "I'm the jerk today, not ashamed of it," he appears to be enjoying himself thus far here today. Goldberg is the lone non-lady to enter the tournament at this early juncture, but we will be sure to let you know if any further incursions into the land of ladies is made as the day rolls on.

One of the most accomplished players in the room was just spotted, as successful professional Cherish Andrews has taken her seat.

Andrews boasts nearly $400,000 in reported live earnings over her six-year career on the circuit, and when winnings from the virtual felt are factored in, she has pocketed quite a bit more while playing the game she loves.

Her best live cash came back in 2012 at the World Series of Poker, where Andrews placed 4th in a $1,500 event for a $210,083 score.

Russian Royalty

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Olga Petrovskaya
Olga Petrovskaya

Olga Petrovskaya hails from Russia originally, but has called Brooklyn home for the last five years. Today, she is making the Borgata her second home away from home, running over her table thus far and doubling her starting stack already.

We just watched Petrovskaya double through an opponent for another big pot, and here's what we saw.

Three players limped into the pot and Petrovskaya exercised her option in the big blind, raising the action to 1,200 (this hand was played in Level 5, with blinds set at 150-300). A lone limper opted to come along and the flop fell {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

Petrovskaya checked the flop to induce a bet of 400, before raising to 1,200. Her opponent flatted the bet, and when the turn came {2-Hearts} Petrovskaya shoved all in for about 15,000 or so. The other player called her down with just {A-}{10-} for no pair and a gutshot straight draw, while Pertrovskaya rolled over the {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} for top two pair. The river failed to deliver a jack - coming {7-Hearts} instead - and with that Petrovskaya climbed the chip counts with a well-deserved double.

Borgata Spring Poker Open: Things To Do at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City
The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City

The 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open is underway here in Atlantic City, New Jersey, kicking off with a $560 no-limit hold’em reentry event today. Taking place at one of the finest gaming destinations Atlantic City has to offer, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is a definite crowd pleaser featuring a luxurious spa, a variety of fine-dining restaurants, and a stylish nightlife to help get your mind off the bad beats taken at the poker tables.

There are a number of different dining options available inside the Borgata making it convenient to never require leaving the hotel. Whether you are looking for something quick and easy, or something a bit higher-end, the Borgata has a taste to satisfy and meet your needs.

Bread + Butter is the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon bite serving up sandwiches and gourmet beverages. One perk is the breakfast menu left as an all-day selection, making it a great spot for those late-night craves. The classic grilled cheese is a patron favorite, or you can also try the Portobello and provolone griddled sandwich, both of which — along with most of the menu — are $10 or less and won’t break the bank.

As a man who has revolutionized the culinary industry, Wolfgang Puck has served up bold and innovative cooking for years and now offers contemporary American cuisine in an upscale setting at the Borgata, as part of his first East Coast venture. Enjoy truffled potato chips, spicy lamb chorizo pizza, or a prime burger from the tavern menu as a less-expensive dinner option. Or you can treat your taste buds and choose one of the many options from the main course on the fine dining menu.

Once you’ve had your fill of the action at the poker tables, take the time to sit back, relax and enjoy a glass or two of your favorite drink.

Gypsy Bar specializes in tequila but also offers an eclectic beer selection and compliments your drink with a roaring atmosphere of live music. The intimate space has seating at the bar, traditional pub tables, and comfortable armchairs for a lounge-type feel. Low lighting also helps to keep the mood mellow. Oh, and don’t be afraid to get a little crazy. Gypsy Bar comes complete with a dance floor allowing you to move your feet to the best sounds in town.

Never been to the Atlantic City or to the Borgata? Then MIXX is the first place to check out because it fully captivates what the Borgata is all about. As a performance-driven dance club, MIXX is home to some of the most renowned DJs and official concert after-parties. With its high ceilings, two levels, and plenty of VIP tables, MIXX has more of a mega club feel than its local counterparts. You will find trapeze artists swinging from the rafters, and celebrities passing through on any given night.

OK so maybe the club scene isn’t for you. Don't worry, because Borgata comes fully equipped with the most luxurious of spas on the east coast. Dedicated to undoing the effects of your day, Spa Toccare offers relaxing treatments guaranteed to exhilarate. It is definitely the place where tensions melt and knots disappear. Sounds like a typical effect from a 12-hour poker session. So emerge yourself into the comforts of their many services and elevate your well being, if even just for an hour or two.

Surely, whatever you choose to do while staying at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, you will be surprised to have a Las Vegas experience with an East Coast twist.

Alex Goldberg savoring the cheers during his walk of shame
Alex Goldberg savoring the cheers during his walk of shame

The Signature Room burst into a raucous round of applause, as Alex Goldberg had just been eliminated from the field.

As the lone wolf in the Ladies event, Goldberg had a target on his back all day, and sure enough he was sent to the rail short of the money.

Goldberg took the cheers in stride though, showing great sportsmanship (at least once he was felted) as he made his way to the exits.

Fittingly, it was a pair of ladies that did Goldberg in, as Kim Edmonds dispatched him with {Q-}{q-} after he risked the last of his stack on the {j-}{10-}{8-} flop holding {A-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.
