Madsen Gets There; Table 8 Counts

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Jeff Madsen (Day 1) makes a straight on the river
Jeff Madsen (Day 1) makes a straight on the river

Jeff Madsen raised to 5,300 in early position, a player called on the button, and the two players in the blinds folded. The dealer fanned {5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, Madsen led out for 6,800, and the player called.

The turn was the {8-Hearts}, Madsen slowed down, checking, and the player tossed out 8,000. The two-time WSOP bracelet winner considered the wager for a short period of time, then called.

The river was the {4-Diamonds}, and Madsen opted to bet out like he did on the flop. This time he bet a 22,000 - around half of the pot - and the player called.

Madsen ripped over {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} for a rivered straight, and his opponent threw his head back in disgust before mucking his hand.

Affleck's Aces Cracked

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck

Matt Affleck and Paul Spitzberg saw a {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop and Affleck got the rest of his stack in with {A-}{A-} but was in bad shape as Spitzberg had flopped a set with {2-}{2-}. The turn was the {Q-Diamonds} meaning Affleck needed a Queen or Ace on the river to stay alive but it was the {6-Clubs} and Affleck's day is done.

Spitzberg, who had his own Aces cracked a while ago according to him, is at 340,000 after winning that pot.

Tuthill Coolers Leah

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Mike Leah (Day 1b) - Eliminated in massive cooler
Mike Leah (Day 1b) - Eliminated in massive cooler

"I can breath," David Tuthill said, exhaling heavily minutes after a near 500,000-chip pot to eliminate Mike Leah.

According to both players, the two engaged in a preflop raising war which led to an all-in pot. Leah revealed {k-}{k-}, but he was up against the best hand in poker; {a-}{a-}.

The two aces held up, and Leah grabbed his backpack and headed to the exit.

Abraham Korotki Leads Field After Day 2

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Abraham Korotki
Abraham Korotki

We are in the money at the 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship and 45 players will return at noon later today aiming to make it even further with all eyes on the $256,508 first place prize. The chip leader heading into Day 3 is Abraham Korotki who eliminated one of the Day 1 chip leaders, well known professional poker player Paul Volpe, earlier in the day and never looked back on the way to building the largest stack in the field with 830,000 in chips.

Sitting in 2nd, only 8,000 behind Korotki with 822,000, is Jake Toole who won a straight-vs-straight-vs-straight hand to start his ascent to the top. Rounding out the top 3 is the Day 1 chip leader, Alan Wentz, who finished with 730,500 in chips.

Other notables that made the money and will return later today include Paul Spitzberg (506,000), Andy Spears (269,500), Matt Brady (260,000), Jeff Madsen (219,500), Dave Stefanski (191,500), Roland Israelashvili (161,500), Jeff Papola (93,500), Taylor Von Kriegenbergh (91,500), Emad Alabsi (65,000), Valerie Novak (40,000), and David Tuthill (350,500). Tuthill took out Mike Leah in a cooler of a hand when he picked up Aces to Leah's Kings.

There were some great players that were unable to make the money. Names like Brett Richey, Andy Frankenberger, Tyler Patterson, Cornel Cimpan, Christian Harder, Keven Stammen, Eric Baldwin, Brock Parker, Amnon Filippi, Brian Lemke, Darren Elias, Adam Friedman, and Matt Affleck would all be sent packing before the money bubble burst.

When play resumes, they will play until the final 27 is reached with the possibility of playing longer if tournament staff feels it is warranted. PokerNews will be back here from the start to bring you all the exciting flops, turns, and rivers.
