Event 1: Heimiller Doubles

Dan Heimiller limped from an early position, and one subsequent player limped from the cutoff. The big blind checked his option after the next two players folded, and the three saw a flop of {2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. Everyone checked to the cutoff, who bet 3,000. The big blind folded, and Heimiller pushed all in for 12,400. The cutoff called.

Heimiller: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Cutoff: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

Heimiller's limped aces held up when the {3-Diamonds} and {4-Clubs} came on the turn and river, and he doubled up.

Event 1: Y2K

According to an announcement recently made by the tournament director, today's Day 1B field officially topped the 2,000 entrant mark.

A total of 2,094 entries were recorded in today's second flight, and adding in yesterday's 1,212 entries from Day 1A, Event 1 is well on its way to surpassing the $2 million guarantee.

Event 1: Tryba Victimized by Slowroll

Chris Tryba ran into trips.
Chris Tryba ran into trips.

Chris Tryba was on the button heads up against an opponent in the big blind. Both players checked the {7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, and the big blind bet out 3,000 on the {j-Hearts} turn. Tryba made the call, and the river paired the board with the {10-Clubs}. The big blind fired again, this time 8,000, and Tryba thought briefly before calling. The big blind hemmed and hawed, tapping the table a few times with his cards, while Tryba waited for him to show. Finally, he tossed {a-Spades}{10-Spades} down for trips.

The player launched into a convoluted explanation of his slowroll, but Tryba summed it up quickly for him: "Some people slowroll, some don't."

Event 1: Andy Hwang Caught in Aaron Gage's Web

Aaron Gage arrived to Day 1B clad in a Spider-Man styled shirt and dark sunglasses, attempting to apply some of the superhero's uncanny skills to the felt.

After his most recent hand against Andy Hwang, Gage's spidey sense appears to be as finely tuned as his comic book counterpart, as he stuck around to fade a flush draw and survived his brush with danger.

The flop of {4-Spades}{a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} hit both players hard, with Hwang holding a {6-Spades}{9-Spades} for a flush draw, and Gage sitting on {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. We didn't catch the betting action, but by the time the turn ({9-Clubs}) and river ({a-Clubs}) were revealed, Gage's hand had held up.

He doubled his stack of 39,000 to a little over 80,000, putting him in prime position to climb to the top of the leaderboard late on Day 1B.

Event 1: Mikey Unbelievable Making Believers Out of the Field

Passing through the tournament floor on our latest pass, a gregarious fellow named Mike Dentale took a moment to introduce himself.

"Mikey Unbelievable, hundred and seventy one." he said in that distinctive New York City, rapid-fire clip. "Good to meet ya."

Usually an unsolicited chip count update wouldn't merit a mention, but Dentale's massive stack puts him squarely among the leaders as the 12th level of play winds down to a conclusion. With the Borgata generously awarding a $2,000 prize to the Day 1B overall chip leader, "Mikey Unbelievable" may have a nice reward waiting for him four levels from now.
