After the flop came down {5-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. the baby card board didn't appear to be all that much... until a raising war between Matt Affleck and Caufman Talley broke out.

Affleck led out with a bet of 100,000 and Talley popped it to 200,000 in response. After a lengthy tank, Affleck heaped a gigantic stack of the gold T25000 chips forward to set Talley all in if he wished to continue.

Continue Talley did, snap-calling with {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and tabling the top-top hand like a man who trusted his read. Affleck could only confirm the great call by turning over {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for second pair, and although he found a slew of additional outs when the turn came {2-Clubs}, the {5-Diamonds} on the river was safe for Talley to send the pot his way.

Chris Moon just doubled through Andy Hwang when his {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} prevailed over {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

With a pair in the hole, Moon called to make his stand, and the board ran out {7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{q-Diamonds} to give him a set of nines - along with a replenished stack with the final table drawing near.

Christopher Leon's stack had shrunk to the point where he had to move all in with any two cards, and that he did with the {5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

His rags failed to materialize into riches though, and the final board of {k-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} to give Chris Moon the win with his {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.

When You Try the Best Hand in the Game With a Mediocre Ace, That's What Happens!

Matt Affleck is Not a Man to Mess With Mediocrity
Matt Affleck is Not a Man to Mess With Mediocrity

We saw Matt Affleck's stack being cut apart and counted up, and with his {A-Diamonds}{a-Spades} displayed near the chips, it was clear he had just scored a much needed double up. Sporting the fresh #25 jersey of Richard Sherman - the brash young superstar defender who helped tip the Seattle Seahawks into the Super Bowl - Affleck was not boisterous in celebration, but his smile said it all.

The victim in this case was Tony Sinishtaj, who tried to bust Affleck with just {A-}{10-} but found himself confounded and cornered by the best.

The final runout read {5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and Affleck retook his seat armed with more than a million chips, as he tries to win the Six-Max event one week before his beloved Seahawks try to win the Super Bowl.

Andy Hwang and Aces Are a Bad Combination

Andy Hwang Doesn't Need Aces to Win... But He'll Take 'Em

Earlier in the evening Andy Hwang used the power of pocket rockets to thrust himself back into contention for another tournament title here at the Borgata.

Hwang turned the trick once again, flopping an ace with {a-}{a-} in the hole and getting value through the river. We missed that hand go down ourselves, but the railbirds were kind enough to let us know that Hwang - one of the most experienced players left in contention and a final tablist already here at the Borgata Winter Poker Open - won another hand with two aces in the hole.

We'll let you know if he can register the hat trick as the race to the Six-Max final table continues.

Tony Sinishtaj Will Be Sticking Around After His

Tony Sinishtaj just caught an ace on the river to stay alive, after running his {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} into Caufman Talley's {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for all of it before the flop.

By fourth street the board read {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{k-Clubs} and it appeared that Talley would notch his second knockout in a single orbit after eliminating Jesse Cohen moments earlier.

River: {a-Diamonds}

Just like that, Sinishtaj slumped back in his chair, his brush with the brink over - and his chip stack suddenly swollen to over 1 million after being dead to an ace with one card to come.

Poker... What a game.

Caufman Talley looked down to find {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} in the hole, and when he saw Jesse Cohen reaching for chips, the most exciting scene a poker player can experience was his to enjoy.

Talley three-bet when the action was on him, and Cohen four-bet jammed for the rest of it. Talley snapped it off with his bullets and he found a crushed {a-}{k-} was the only thing between him and a monster pot.

The final board rolled out {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{2-Spades} to keep the aces out in front, and with that Talley surged to nearly 1 million in chips while bringing us one step closer to the six-handed final table.

Like a Brik(is) House... Just Letting it All Hang Out

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Josh Brikis is Taking Over the Six-Max Event, Busting Two Players in One Orbit
Josh Brikis is Taking Over the Six-Max Event, Busting Two Players in One Orbit

Josh Brikis has quietly built a massive chip stack, avoiding major confrontations while pushing his opponents around throughout this second day of play.

In the last few minutes, however, he has put his big stack to use in a big way, eliminating Day 1 chip leader Andrew Kelsall and experienced grinder Ronit Chamani in a single orbit.

First, Kelsall made his stand with {5-}{5-} but he ran smack into the Brik Wall, as Brikis held {K-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. The flop further confirmed that it just might be Brikis' day, coming {10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Hearts} to end any chance at a comeback for Kelsall - who entered the day as the chip leader.

Just a few hands later, it was Chamani's turn to slide her stack over to Brikis, after she fell victim to runner-runner quads of all things. Brikis and Chamani both checked the {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop and the {3-Hearts} dropped in on the turn. Brikis flatted a turn bet and the river card came {3-Diamonds}, making a four in hand appear to be the immortal nuts.

Chamani fired away - why wouldn't she, holding {k-}{4-} - but Brikis decided to move all-in over the top. The snap-call by Chamani was greeted with a rude awakening, as Brikis tabled the {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} for quads, sinking Chamani's boat and soaring to nearly 2 million chips to open up a huge lead on the field.

Hwang on Right End of Brutal Cooler, Yarlapati Busts Soon After

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Maruti Yarlapati Just Ran Kings Into Aces to Fall Short of the Final Two Tables
Maruti Yarlapati Just Ran Kings Into Aces to Fall Short of the Final Two Tables

The preflop action on a recent hand was a textbook display of two skilled players trying to outwit one another, but in the end, the cards played themselves.

Andy Hwang three-bet to 60,000 from the big blind after an open to 28,000 from Maruti Yarlapati in the cutoff. The action back on him, Yarlapati took his time before cutting out a four-betting stack of 140,000. From there, the theatrics were, while unnecessary considering the situation, fun to watch firsthand.

After the sizable four-bet by Yarlapati, Hwang winced and appeared to all the world to be a frustrated man, one who did not expect to be played back at. Feigning displeasure at the spot he was now put in, Hwang checked his cards once or twice and cut out a calling stack, only to put the chips back in their rightful spot as if ready to concede the hand.

Instead, Hwang grabbed the stack and placed it in the middle, simply smooth-calling the big bet and taking the {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop out of position. When the first three cards were spread Hwang tapped the table silently for a check, and soon Yarlapati's chips were all pushed forward for the all-in move.

Hwang beat him to the pot and both players tabled their holdings.

Showdown:

Hwang: {A-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Yarlapati: {K-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Both players had picked up premium pocket pairs, and despite the protracted drama with played out preflop, the pot was preordained to be played for all the chips.

The turn ({j-Diamonds}) and river ({10-Diamonds}) changed nothing and Hwang doubled through for a huge win, while Yarlapati was left on life support. His last 100,000 or so was shipped with {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, but Yarlapati failed to catch up to Christopher Leon's {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} when the flop came {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{j-Diamonds}.

Rogen Chhabra Just Vanished With a 14th Place Finish

Just two hands were dealt after the dinner break before we lost a player, and it was Rogen Chhabra who was headed to the payout desk when it was all said and done.

Chhabra found {Q-}{j-} and shoved for his last 120,000 or so, only to see Christopher Leon call with {A-}{7-}.

The final board ran out clean for Leon and ace-high took the pot, leaving Chhabra to claim a 14th place finish and $3,437 in prize money.
