Nicolai Aubert Heads to the Final Day of the Coolbet Open Main Event in the Chip Lead

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Nicolai Aubert

The Coolbet Open €550 Main Event at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Park Hotel has thus far been a monumental success.

The tournament has attracted 589 entrants, setting a new casino record at Olympic Park Casino for the most entrants in an international poker event. The previous record was established in November 2017 when the MPNPT Main Event attracted 534 entrants.

First place is slated to win a whopping €64,600 with each of the 27 players advancing to the third and final day on Saturday each guaranteed a payout of €1,820.

Norway's Nicolai Aubert is in the driver's seat to enter the final day with a huge stack of 1,611,000 and blinds starting off at 6,000/12,000 with a big blind ante of 12,000. Aubert won a huge pot near the end of the day against Finnish poker legend Aki Pyysing (43rd - €1,400) when his kings held up against his opponent's ace-queen suited.

Not too far behind Aubert are Finland's Mathias Siljander (second - 1,500,000) and Sweden's Fredrik Karvall (third -1,340,000).

Jussi Mattila Bubbles the Coolbet Open Main Event
Jussi Mattila Bubbles the Coolbet Open Main Event

The action slowed down a bit when the bubble was approaching with 55 players guaranteed a payout of at least €1,050. However, the bubble just lasted one hand when Finland's Jussi Mattila was eliminated with jack-ten against Afshin Alikhani with pocket kings. There were two tens on the board when all of the chips were in the middle but there was also a king on the board as well giving Alikhani a better hand.

Notable players to start the day but not survive were Vegard Dahl, who began the day as the chip leader, Rauno "Estonian Jesus" Tahvonen, and Finnish musician Kim Herold. Also not cashing was Sebastian Wahl, who won the first-ever Coolbet Open Main Event in May for €50,100 and Sander van Wesemael, who finished runner-up to Wahl.

The final day kicks off tomorrow at 12 p.m. with 27 hopefuls battling it out in hopes to win the second-ever Coolbet Open Main Event trophy and the €64,600 top prize.

Live streaming commentated by Henry Kilbane and Brandon Allen will begin after the first break of the day and will be available in our coverage under the Live Stream tab.

Stay tuned at PokerNews tomorrow as we bring to you the conclusion of the Coolbet Open Main Event at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Park Hotel.

Aubert Eliminates Pyysing

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nicolai Aubert
Nicolai Aubert

Nicolai Aubert now has a monster stack of 1.35 million and some of that came just now from the hands of Aki Pyysing.

Pyysing four-bet jammed for about 350,000 in chips with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and Aubert called with {K-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

The {6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{k-Clubs}{2-Clubs} board was unable to help Pyysing and he was eliminated in 43rd place for €1,400.

Simmer Doubles Up and Eliminates Tõnus

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Coolbet Open
Coolbet Open

Joosep Tõnus had less than a big blind left while in the big blind and was all-in before any cards were dealt. This didn't stop major action from taking place.

Ivar Simmer opened for 14,000 from early position and Frank Robert Berget called from the button.

Simmer check-called a bet of 21,000 after the flop came {5-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Spades} from Berget.

Simmer checked again after the {9-Hearts} came on the turn. Berget fired out again, this time for 31,000. Simmer went into the tank for two minutes before he raised to 75,000. Berget then three-bet enough to cover Simmer, thus effectively making the bet for 146,000 total.

Simmer snap-called and turned over {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Berget was drawing dead with {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The {7-Diamonds} came on the river and Tõnus turned over {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}.

Tõnus exited the tournament in 45th place for €1,250, while Simmer collected a monster pot. Meanwhile at other tables, Akseli Timonpoika Paalanen, Jan C. Kongsgard Højmark, Karev Tralla, Allan Rasmus Dyrstad, and Frode Hoel were all eliminated before Tonus and also collected €1,250.

All remaining players are now guaranteed a €1,400 payday.

Jussi Mattila Bubbles on a Huge Cooler

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jussi Mattila Bubbles the Coolbet Open Main Event
Jussi Mattila Bubbles the Coolbet Open Main Event

The bubble has just been broken and it was a bit of a cooler for Finland's Jussi Mattila.

Afshin Alikhani opened for 20,000 from late position and Jussi Mattila called from big blind.

Mattila check-called a bet of 35,000 after the {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades} came on the flop.

Both players checked after the {10-Spades} came on the turn.

Mattila open jammed for 100,000 after the {k-Spades} came on the river and Alikhani snap-called.

The action was paused while waiting for the other tables to complete their hands before Mattila turned over {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a full house. This wasn't good enough as Alikhani turned over {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} for a better full house on the river.

While Mattila misses out on a payday, the remaining 55 players are now all guaranteed a payout of €1,050.

Nommik Eliminates Ringstad

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Silver Nommik
Silver Nommik

Espen Ringstad jammed for 57,000 from middle position. Silver Nommik called from late position and Jussi Mattila also called from the big blind.

Nommik bet 76,000 and Mattila went into the tank for about six minutes talking the entire time. A player eventually called time and Mattila folded {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts} face-up.

Nommik turned over {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and was ahead of Ringstad who turned over {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

Ringstad hit the rail after the {j-Clubs} appeared on the turn followed by the {6-Hearts} on the river and there are now 59 players left in the field.

Mattila Can't Head to the Bar Quite Yet

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Jussi Mattila
Jussi Mattila

Jussi Mattila has shared a few times with his table that he wants to go out so he can head to the bar.

It looks like his trip to the bar will be delayed as he just doubled up against Silver Nommik.

We caught up with the hand when all the chips were in the middle but Mattila with {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} had his stack of 108,000 at risk against Nommik's monster stack with {A-}{K-}.

The {4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds} board was a safe one for Mattila and he doubled up while Nommik's stack took a small dent.

Levy Out on a Huge Cooler

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
David Tabach Levy
David Tabach Levy

David Tabach Levy was just eliminated on a huge cooler by Tony Andre Westby.

The hand began with Levy opening from the button to 15,000 before Westby three-bet to 46,000 from the big blind.

Levy four-bet jammed and Westby asked for a count.

The dealer confirmed Levy had 240,000 and Westby paused for a minute before he made the call.

David Tabach Levy: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Tony Andre Westby: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}

Both players had the same hand in different suits and odds were huge that this hand would wind up in a chop.

Westby appeared pleased to see two clubs on the {6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop. The {8-Spades} on the turn was a safe card for Levy but he was eliminated from the tournament after his opponent completed a flush when the {j-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Levy stood next to the table for two minutes in shock at his unfortunate luck in the hand.

Veli-Pekka Alakorva

Veli-Pekka Alakorva opened to 12,000 from the button before Mathias Siljander three-bet to 28,000.

Alakorva four-bet jammed and Siljander asked for a chip count. When he found out it was 220,000 he made the call.

Veli-Pekka Alakorva: {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Mathias Siljander: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

Alakorva was screaming for a ten throughout the hand but no ten arrived to save him as the board ran out {J-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}.

After the hand, Alakorva made sure to shake Siljander's hand before exiting the tournament area.

A player opened from under the gun to 12,000 before Marius Hoihilder Heiene, who late entered at the start of Day 2, three-bet to 28,000 from middle position. Henri Mikael Schalin four-bet a huge stack of chips more than covering both of his opponents from late position.

The original raiser folded and Heiene called for 167,000 total.

Henri Mikael Schalin: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Marius Hoihilder Heiene: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}

Heiene was in great shape and his hand held with the board running out {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} to double up.
