Grinder Bounces Back

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Chip leader Kyaw Naing has been a pest for Michael Mizrachi today, but Mizrachi just got some of his chips back by doubling up. On a {J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, Naing check-called a bet of 9,000, and Naing then moved all-in when the {5-Clubs} hit the turn. Mizrachi called instantly with {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flush, and Naing tabled {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, needing a ten or a five to send the former chip leader to the rail shy of the money.

The harmless {J-Hearts} landed on the river, and Mizrachi was given new life near the money bubble.

Pfaffenbach Pfinished; Hand-For-Hand Begins

One hand after losing all but one chip and his chair with {a-}{q-} against Dietrich Kuhlmann's jacks, Nick Pfaffenbach found himself all in in the big blind and facing four callers.

The group checked around on an {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{a-Clubs} board and Matt Brunskole showed {4-Spades}{2-Hearts} for a pair of deuces.

Pfaffenbach, who hadn't even looked yet, turned over and unconnected {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and hit the rail.

As a result, we are down to hand-for-hand play and on the money bubble.

High Drama on the Bubble

While several short stacks were merely trying to hang on during hand-for-hand play, the two biggest stacks in the room just collided over at the feature table, creating the largest pot in the tournament thus far.

Kyaw Naing raised to 15,000 from the cutoff and Lou Procopio three-bet to 62,000 from the small blind. Action folded back to Naing, who made the call, and the dealer rolled out a {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop. Naing checked and Procopio took his time before betting 150,000. Naing check-raised all-in and Procopio stood up and called.

Naing {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Procopio: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}

Naing needed a heart to burst the bubble and climb close to a million chips. The turn brought the {2-Diamonds} and the river was the {7-Clubs}, giving Procopio the overwhelming chip lead with more than 850,000. Naing was left with just 82,500, and we were back to hand-for-hand play.

Naing Bubbles

Bubble Boy Kyaw Naing.
Bubble Boy Kyaw Naing.

After a Michael Mizrachi raise and a call from Lou Procopio, Robert "Hoss" Colao shipped it in.

Kyaw Naing re-shoved, Mizrachi re-re-shoved and after Procopio released, the hands were revealed:

Kyaw Naing: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Robert "Hoss" Colao: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Michael Mizrachi: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

The flop came {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Hearts} giving "The Grinder" and "Hoss" open-ended straight draws, which hit on the {7-Spades} turn and got even better after the {q-Hearts} river.

Naing was covered and had shockingly gone from chip leader to bubble boy in just a matter of minutes as Mizrachi and Colao chopped up his chips.

The 24 players remaining are now in the money and the next player out will receive $2,869 in prize money.

Andy Spears 24th Place.

Facing a raise and a three-bet from Nachman Berlin, Andy Spears looked down at two eights and let fly with a four-bet shove.

The raiser folded, but Berlin called with {a-}{q-}. An ace on the flop and bricks the rest of the way spelled the end for Spears and Berlin now has a massive 470k stack.

Sammy Smith Eliminated in 22nd Place ($2,869)

Sammy Smith never got any momentum going here on Day 2. After losing a massive pot to Husni Aga, Smith got the rest of his stack in with {J-}{10-} on a {8-}{7-}{7-} flop. William Vogul called with pocket tens and the turn and river didn't bring any help to Smith, who collects $2,869 for his two days of work..

Louie Tomassi Eliminated in 21st Place ($3,206)

Moments after he sent Sammy Smith out the door, William Vogul eliminated Louie Tomassi in 21st place. Tomassi, the short stack to begin the day, moved all-in preflop on the button for 60,000. Vogul called from the big blind, and the race was under way:

Tomassi: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Vogul: {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}

The flop: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Gin for Vogul. His broadway straight held up, and Tomassi took home $3,206.
