Poker & the Catwalk

As with previous days, it's very unlikely that we'll witness a prompt start. As I write, the PokerStars' photography team is shooting (with a camera, that is) all remaining 36 players behind a closed curtain. They did ask yours truly to pose for a bonus shoot, but I politely declined. I did do a bit of modeling work back in the day with Patrik Antonius, but we've put that behind us and are now fully focusing on our poker.

Our Danish counterparts in the press room are predicting a 3.30pm start time, and I'd be inclined to agree.

As predicted, play is yet to commence, predominantly due to to the inclusion of a featured table. Stealing the limelight today is Chad Brown's table, which is also shared by San Remo champion Jason Mercier and possible dark horse Stephen Chidwick. Meanwhile, participants on the outer tables are all itching to get going, with players riffling chips incessantly and fidgeting restlessly in their seats. The atmosphere at the moment seems very tense, as the reality of how much dough is up for grabs finally kicks in.

Marko Tapio Vainio Eliminated in 35th Place (€ 17,300)

A short-stacked Marko Tapio Vainio was the latest player to have his EPT final table dreams cut short. Vainio got the last of his chips in the middle holding {2-Diamonds}

against the {A-Hearts}

of Davidi Kitai.

It was a race situation, one in which Kitai took an immediate lead when the flop came down {A-?}

. Neither the {J-?}

on the turn nor the {5-?}

on the river could help Vainio and he was sent to the rail. Kitai is now hovering near the 600,000 chip mark.

Chad Brown Eliminated in 34th Place (€ 17,300)

You'll hear many players talk about how they hate pocket jacks, and after today, you might be able to add Chad Brown to that list.

Chad Brown was just eliminated at the hands of Daniele Mazzia was his {J-?}

couldn't hold up against Mazzia's {K-?}

. The chips went in preflop in a pot totaling just under 400,000 and when the board ran out {Q-Hearts}

, the former actor turned poker pro's hand was second best.

Brown was gracious in defeat and during his exit interview mentioned that he had had pocket jacks twice today, and was unsuccessful with them on both occasions. He hit the rail, no doubt disappointed, while Mazzia climbed up the leaderboard over the 500,000 chip mark.

Alexander Grishchuk Eliminated in 33rd Place (€ 17,300)

It was a short day for Alexander Grishchuk. He was just sent home at the hands of Jose Vazquez Ortega.

It was an all-in preflop situation and when the hands were turned up, Ortega was in good shape with {A-?}

against the {A-?}

of Grishchuk. Both players made two pair on the {A-Diamonds}

board, but Ortega's was best. Grishchuck hit the rail in 33rd place, picking up € 17,300 in the process, while Ortega took his chip count close to the 350,000 mark.
