Common Attire

Around the room, many of the younger players are wearing the the same teal and navy blue striped, hooded sweatshirt. Some tables have two players at the same table wearing it and we count upwards of 15 or 16 total players in the room rocking the gear. The sweatshirt was given to players who qualified for the event online, but our guess is that they all missed the memo that says they don't have to wear it when they play.

If Anyone Can, Raducan

A very curious hand here, as a gentleman henceforth to be known as Player 1 raised to 5,000. To his left, a gentleman whom we shall call Player 2 reraised all in for just shy of 10,000 total. A third gentleman, who shall be allowed his real name Constantin Raducan, now attempted to call Player 1's 5,000 raise, apparently unaware that Player 2 was all in. The floor was called, but while the dealer was explaining the situation, Raducan tossed in the call, leaving himself just a few thousand behind. Player 1 called too, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {10-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {7-Spades}

Player 1 bet 5,000, and Raducan called all in. Three-way and on their backs, the cards looked as follows:

Player 1: {5-Spades} {8-Spades} for the open-ended straight draw
Player 2: {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts} for top pair
Raducan: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} and in need of some help

Turn: Bang! {Q-Clubs}

River: {7-Diamonds}

Thus Player 2 headed for the door, and Raducan nigh-on tripled up to around 35,000.

Kastle No Rookie

Kastle in earlier, sillier times
Kastle in earlier, sillier times
Casey Kastle, his cork-dangling Australian hat (with a kangaroo and the legend AUSTRALIA emblazoned across the front, in case one should somehow misunderstand) now replaced with a rather less fun baseball cap, is up to 40,000.

With the board reading {3-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}, Kastle's opponent bet out 3,100, only for Kastle to make it 6,700. Mr. Opponent gave it some thought, and then called, leaving himself just 6,500 behind.

They saw a {10-Spades} river and Mr. Opponent checked it. Kastle bet 10,000 to put his opponent all in -- and a weary fold from Mr. Opponent sent the pot Kastle's way.

The Deeb Train Rollin'

Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb was in the big blind as action folded around to Joe Serock in middle position. Serock limped in and then the small blind moved all in for 6,975 total. Deeb announced a reraise and then Serock got out of the way quickly. The small blind tabled two sevens -- {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} -- but was behind Deeb's {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}.

The board ran out {6-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {10-Spades} and Deeb claimed another victim, moving to 86,000 in the process.

Ready, Freddy, Go!

In a reraised pot, Andre Santos bet out 8,000 on the flop of {Q-Clubs} {8-Spades} {J-Spades}. Freddy Deeb made the call, and the pair saw a {K-Spades} turn whic both checked.

The river was the {Q-Diamonds} and Santos checked once more. Deeb set his opponent in for his last 20,050 but the Portuguese player gave it, preserving the remainder of his stack.

Serock and Deeb Chop a Small Profit

Joe Serock raised to 1,400 and the player on the button called. The small blind was Freddy Deeb and he called as well before the big blind came along to join the party. The four players saw the flop come down {Q-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {6-Spades}. Everyone checked.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and again, everyone checked.

The river was the {9-Hearts} and action checked to Serock. He announced a bet of 3,600. The button folded, Deeb made the call and the big blind folded.

"King." announced Serock, tabling {K-Clubs} {4-Clubs}. Deeb showed a king as well with the {K-Spades} {3-Spades} and the two chopped up the pot.

One player commented on the two hands that the players turned over, to which Freddy responded, "I like any hand that wins."

Arnaud Goes Home

Mattern (on the right, not being Roland de Wolfe)
Mattern (on the right, not being Roland de Wolfe)
Just before the break, Arnaud Mattern pushed from the big blind to a raise from the cutoff. Mattern tabled {K-?} {Q-?}, but was dominated by the cutoff who called with {A-?} {K-?}. Mattern entirely failed to spike, and is now faced with a lovely week in Barcelona with nothing to do.
