Phillips was born in 1988 in Richmond, Virginia and currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina. He started playing poker professionally after graduating from Myers Park High School in 2007. Before he got into poker Phillips used to play baseball and followed a dream of becoming a professional. However, at the age of 19 Phillips decided to become a poker pro and gave it all his time and efforts. He started grinding online and in two years turned into an EPT champion.

World Series of Poker

Phillips' first World Series of Poker money finish also brought him his first bracelet. In June 2010 Phillips outplayed the field of 1,662 players to win his first-ever WSOP event, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed tournament. He also collected $482,774 in prize money along with the most prestigious poker trophy. He cashed in three more events that summer including a fourth place finish in the $5,000 Ante Up For Africa Charity Event for $40,000.

Phillips missed the 2011 World Series, but came back to Vegas the next year and scored three more cashes including his second bracelet. Again the title came along with his first cash of the series in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. Not only did Phillips overcome the field of 2810 competitors, but he also beat the 2009 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada in the heads-up battle.
