Collado-ral Damage

We found 2009 PCA final table bubbler Jan Collado betting out 2,000 on the turn of a {6-Spades} {3-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {8-Spades} board; his opponent called and they proceeded.

Both players checked the {5-Spades} river and Mr. Opponent turned over {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades} for a set of queens that had turned into a flush. Collado attempted to muck, but was forced to turn over {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}. Yikes.

Collado dropped to 32,000 in what was a surprisingly small pot given the premium hands involved.

A Tentative Number

The section of the big board that says "# Entries: " just flashed to life displaying the number 351. We'll take that as a tentative number of runners for Day 1a, though we'll wait for the staff confirmation before we call it official.

That's down just a bit from the 396 who played Day 1a last year, but the staff seems content with the turnout. What with the volcano and all.

No Kodos For Kang

Benjamin Kang - Out
Benjamin Kang - Out
Benjamin Kang has just been eliminated from the tournament after he raised all-in on the turn of a {Q-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {J-Spades} board. But his hand would prove to be in trouble as he was up against {8-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} which held on the {2-Spades} river.

Sa-OUT

On a flop of {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, Antoine Saout made it 2,525. His opponent in the cutoff 7,500. Saout answered, making it 16,525 and his opponent, not to be outdone, put all his chips in the middle.

Saout thought for some time before making the call, putting himself at risk. He flipped over {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the nut flush draw. His opponent showed {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} for a flopped top two.

The turn and river bricked for Saout bringing the {10-Diamonds} and {9-Clubs} respectively.

Matterned Out Badly

Arnaud
Arnaud
A young qualifier got to the turn of a {5-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {K-Spades} board and bet out 1,000 only for Arnaud Mattern to toss in a blue 10,000-denomination chip, announcing a raise to 3,200. The qualifier called, and the dealer attempted to short-change Mattern by 5,000; he duly complained, and having received his proper change, they proceeded.

The river was a rag and both players checked, and Mr. Qualifier confidently turned over {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. Mattern mucked, and dropped to 19,000.

Raymer Gets A Few Back

After calling a raise in the big blind, Greg Raymer checked the {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} to the original raiser in the cutoff who led out for 750. The button flat-called but then Raymer quickly raised to 4,000 and both players instantly folded to the former Main Event champion.

Kravchenko Ousted

Al Krav - Out
Al Krav - Out
We caught the action after the chips had gone in the middle. Alexander Kravchenko was up against one opponent for his tournament life.

The board read {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

Kravchenko had flipped over {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for the nut flush draw and his opponent showed two tens.

The board brought the {8-Diamonds} and the river {10-Clubs} made Kravchenko's flush but also filled his opponent's boat, and with that he was sent to the rail.

Does Anyone Have Ace-King?

Nguyenner
Nguyenner
Three players went into the turn of the {10-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {9-Spades} {J-Clubs} board; only one would make it out again.

Heinz Kamutzki bet out 1,600 from the big blind position and the second player folded. Men Nguyen on the button, however, made it 4,000 to go, and Kamutzki gave it up.

Nguyen turned to the non-Kamutzki player and told him, "I told you I was gonna win. You weren't the only one who had ace-king."

Said the folder: "You had ace-king?"

Said Nguyen jovially, "You weren't the only one who had ace-king."

Nguyen is up to 44,000.

Just A Trickle For Flood

Liam Flood is sitting with about 15,000 having just picked a small pot to help rebuild his stack. He made it 925 and got one caller from the button.

The flop was {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} and Flood's almost pot-sized bet of 1,800 was enough to take it down.

River Flush For Leibold

Imre Leibold raised preflop and got one caller on the button.

Leibold fired out 1,200 on the {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {6-Clubs} flop and got called. On the turn Leibold checked and the button bet out 4,000 putting the Estonian into the tank.

A little oddly at this point, Leibold had the clock called on him despite the fact we went on break at almost exactly the same time.

Finally Leibold called before firing out 10,000 on the {4-Clubs} river. A quick call and Leibold showed {8-Clubs} {7-Clubs} for the flush and the pot.
